Came here to say this as well. Would love to see Misha build a Miata. The NB's are probably a better platform to build on (but share all the same fundamental components) and are cheaper.
Yes! Since the RingTracktor is dead, would a MX-5 be a RingLawnmower? RingMower? No pun intended - not referring to the visit on the grass. Just the small footprint!
never drove one, but in principle looks like a good option: great chassis, good tunability stock, feedback, low weight, low CG, good balance 50:50, low running costs, reliability, plenty of aftermarket options. valid for all from. na to nd. nb seems the most interesting to me
Shoutout to my fellow Dutchie for lending his car to Misha! I laughed so hard when he needed to open the door because the window is broken 😂 Got the same issue! Miatalife I guess! Nice car man!
"The MX-5 Miata is a symbol of Mazda’s car-making philosophy, “Jinba Ittai,” which means horse and rider as one and expresses the type of fun-to-drive roadster engineers have intended to build since day one of the vehicle’s inception." This (probably) is the reason why all the miata (mx-5) give the driver the feelings you were trying to describe! Great car! Great lap! 🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹
As a subscriber I am thrilled to see you drive “my” Miata. Mine will be 33 years old next week, still great fun and totally dependable. Happy holidays and thanks! Iggy in Oregon.
@@mgcharoudin Are you also interested in laps with cars you already have driven? I would love to have you lap my NA Miata, but it would be basically this one except more stock...
"If you cant go fast with 90hp, 900ph aint gonna help ya" - Bob Hall, "Father of the Miata" Would LOVE to see a build story for a Miata! Ive owned 3 in my lifetime in the States and would love to get another since I moved to Finland, but the prices for "classics" late 80s-90s Japanese sports are getting quite high. And to think they called us Ricers back then, lol.
I really like these laps Misha! You see in the slower cars like the Miata or the Peugeot rallye that you drove that momentum is so much more important than in the faster cars. As an ex BRZ owner I really love these cars. Not crazy amount of power but great handling. Thanks for sharing this great fun lap!
Nice! As a 1.6 nbfl driver, I like to keep the revs between 5 and 7 k and never go below 4 k. Now I'm doing a complete engine rebuild. And that in the German winter! But, no pain, no gain! 😂💪 The ZoomZoom must be ready for the 2023 season!
For me as a terrible co-driver it interesting to see someone being so calm about it. I´d be screaming and yelling at you like my grandma always does at me^^ Btw Mazda MX5 is an absolute delight to drive when well maintained
Big huge love for this video. The thing that really caught me off was how open and exposed you look in the car. I have NA (with an NB motor) and am, as I write this, on a 3 day road rally with it. The camera angle kind of reminds me of my own mortality :)
Everyone should own a MX5 at least once, I've owned a few & still have 2, one for each of my homes, both slightly modified & just great fun, enough power to enjoy, not enough to get into trouble, Rj in Oz
Nice lap. Gotta love the MX 5. Such a legendary car. So versatile. Good drifters too. That off is not considered as a off. It was less than 2 seconds. Take care ✌
Woot!!! Miata content! Happy driver, happy passenger, happy car. Everybody wins! Wish I could let you try my ND2! On a related note, imagine the taxi a turbo-ed ND would make? 😁
misha you should totally get one they are still cheap for what incredible cars the yare, so amazingly balanced and beautiful feedback through the steering, double wishbone suspension all around, incredible shift. everything you want in a sports car! new ring tractor? :D
NA Miata is a great car, had a 97 with 260,000 miles on it when I sold it. Still have a 2002 NB SE with a FM turbo kit and coil overs. Best fun for dollar and parts are cheap!
EXCELLENT Video !!! Love it a lot, how you set all the cameras and showing us all details. Great stuff. I'm a HONDA guy, all the way, but one of these.... I would totally enjoy it a LOT!
People calling this little car very slow is underrated honestly. Ok , the acceleration might not be like a turbo engine or whatever, but it still reaches amazing speeds for such a small engine car !
You should try a lap with a turbo'd NA or NB, same handling but with double the power. Even with todays Mx5 prices and mods you get so much for the money :)
I was driving the black Golf you were behind at the end of the lap. I remember saying to my mate “im sure thats Misha behind” its a shame we didnt meet earlier on in the lap 👍🏼 next time
There is a guy who lives near my mother, and he's taken one of these and engine swapped a Vauxhall VXR8, which is essentially a rebadged Holden HSV E3 GTS. So it's an MX-5 with 576hp. It looks terrifying turning into his street, you would die on the Nordschleife even with Misha driving 🤯😎🤘🏻.
What a fantastic car, great job owner and a nice dude ... Another fantastic video Misha ma man, I love the video angles and the arrangement of the cams. If I may add one suggestion it would be to add a shift cam also, that would have been so awesome to see your downshifts alongside the heal to toe in this ride ... You are truly an inspiration... I am so tempted to get me NB or NA Miata in Finland but this will NOT be easy to drive on the ice 😂😂
Great great driving there. What a purist car i love it. I personally also only invest in handling upgrades, brakes tires etc. for now bc. I know the car can still out drive me as is. But glad to learn it right before stepping up. This was a great motivation. As usual
There are so many fun swaps you can do with a Miata. If memory serves me correctly there are or at least used to be some kits available for V6 and V8 swaps and there was one Miata named Balto, built by evil genius racing. It had a 100hp snow machine engine and it raced at the 24 hour of Lemons.
reviuild and mk1 and this a great video to show my son who is pushing for a supercharger upgrade lrean to drive the prean to handle more power is a great lesson
Misha, Miata is always the answer. Lol. Lots of guys with big crazy fast cars have one of these in the garage too for a reason. I’m looking at an NB2 1.8 or NC for next year because they’re so cheap and just as good.
A MX-5 would be a great car for you, Misha! If I were you and getting one I would find one with a blown or damaged engine (but still nice trans) and swap a more powerful (but not something that will unbalance the car) engine like the V6 out of the MX-6, a Honda K-series, heck you could even turbo or supercharge the stock engine. However, I must admit I am holding out hope you will start work on the E39 M5 (unless you sold it, I don’t remember)…I’m sure Sreten would be excited to get started on it! Cheers! 🖖😎👍
To be honest, that looks more fun than going full speed with a GT3 or BMW. Top down, flow driving, not to much speed that it gets dangerous on straights etc.
true story about the MX 5, it was in 1989 I was on the highway with my golf GTI 1600 always got on the foot on the floor🥲 and just before Paris porte de la Chapelle, brutal slowdown because a brand new Mazda MX5 Miata had fallen from a delivery truck, it was on the upside down on the doors‼️‼️ on the first line at right.
Best car as for fun factor driving experience at very reasonable prices......why go 300 kmh when doing 160 or 180 gives you even more "speed" feeling....and going "flat out" through some corners is fun too....just like a caterham S7.....
Low power cars seems to always be more fun than high power cars. Extracting every bit of performance out of a small machine is the most fun you can have in a car. Slow Car Fast > Fast Car Slow.
It looks like the car is low on oil. The oil pressure drops below 2 Bar every time under hard breaking which is common for this engine when it's low on oil and can get pretty dangerous.
