Item#: SCP-173
Object class: Euclid
Other Term(s) : Neck Breaker 9000, Peanut - Just a nickname
Description:
SCP-173 is a 2 meters tall (6ft) concrete statue with bizarre markings that kills all living things on sight, moving toward its victims at a speed of several feet in one blink of an eye and snapping their necks with irresistible strength and lethal precision. In addition, it's completely invincible. It also periodically produces feces and blood onto the ground of its containment cell, which must be cleaned up from time to time (see below).
Behavior:
SCP-173 can't move as long as someone is looking at it through eye contact, similarly to the Weeping Angels of Doctor Who lore. Thus, a victim has a chance of escaping from the anomaly by keeping their eyes focused on it; however people need to blink frequently and often do so subconsciously, and with each blink SCP-173 makes a large stride toward a person, and can move across the length of a large room in just a few blinks but the deal is that the SCP Foundation still does not know how does it move because its a statue. The best shot given at how it moves is that as the person blinks it takes its chance and somehow ''glitch walk"(just like you no-clip in the Backrooms) towards the person which means it basically gets separated from its body (gets divided into upper and lower half) then the other half comes forward and that is how it its capable of movement although nobody has seen it do it that way. Thus, one’s best bet when trying to escape from 173 is to walk backwards away from it while keeping your eyes steady. In theory, one could stop SCP-173 by winking one eye at a time (easier done by manually closing one eyelid with a finger and then the other once the first one has been blinked), this is actually much harder to do in practice, as the human mind is trained to blink both eyes at once. Another method would be to not completely blink, but half-closed to decrease tiring the eyes.
Due to it's nature, whenever D-class personnel are sent to perform tests on SCP-173 or routine maintenance on his containment chamber, they must be in a group of at least 3, so two members keep looking at 173 while the third performs the given task. Unfortunately, due to the lack of any secondary measures of stopping the movement of SCP-173 like constant video surveillance and the inexperienced and defiant behavior of the D-class personnel death can often occur. However most of them are given training before entering its enclosure.
Classification:
SCP-173 is classified by the organization as a “Euclid”, as it's containment procedures are more complex than those of SCPs classed under "Safe", but unlike with SCPs classed under "Keter" if containment procedures are correctly implemented and followed they can't breach containment.
Special Containment Procedures:
Item SCP-173 is to be kept in a locked containment room at all times. When personnel must enter SCP-173's room, no fewer than 3 may enter at any time and the door is to be re-locked behind them. At all times, two persons must maintain direct eye contact with SCP-173 until all personnel have vacated and re-locked the container.
