Nick and Amanda Thayer, close friends of the Watts family, welcomed Chris Watts into their home shortly after his pregnant wife Shanann and their two daughters, Bella and Celeste, went missing. The couple says they are haunted by the fact that they let the accused killer sleep across the hall from their 5-year-old daughter.
Chris Watts, 33, is being held on suspicion of three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of tampering with a deceased human body, according to court documents. A law enforcement source told 9Wants to Know that Chris Watts confessed to killing his wife and two daughters.

Yeah it's pretty brutal ... Not like they had access to the video we do now, but I feel bad for them. Not a dog guy but I actually felt bad for the dog too. Probably witnessed the whole thing then was taken to the police kennel. Must've been happy when they came to pick him up, but never got to see the family again.

He wanted to have another baby. This just seems so odd to me. He was an introvert, shy. Shanann was a leader and everybody loved her. Maybe he was jealous of her. But then, wouldn't that have showed? I can't figure this out. He was having an affair with someone he worked with. All I can figure is that he thought Shanann was cheating or either he was just so jealous of her that he snapped. This just seems so unreal and my heart goes out to all involved. I truly do hope that her story helps others in some way because I think that's what she would have wanted. In her video a few months before, she said everything happens for a reason. She also seemed to cherish the time she got to spend with her daughters. I'm glad that had such a good day their last day.

Rich R I honest to God, did. It takes the heart of a parent to feel their pain. First time I’ve cried seeing their case. Chris is so damn cold that all I felt was shock and horror from him. I could feel this couples pain and devastation. Perhaps because I too have been privy to a lot of loss/death. I know what they’re feeling is so hard.

When Nick talked about his own daughter, and asked how he's supposed to tell her about her best friends' death, and that their own Dad killed them, and Amanda said that she wanted her daughter to hear it from them, and not some stranger.....this is heartbreaking. How DO you explain something like that to a little child? And would that child have fears that her own parent could do something like that? HOW DO YOU explain this? My heart goes out to this couple. God Bless them in their grief, their confusion and their outrage.

I have watched quite a few videos on this terribly tragic case - these two lovely people are the only ones who I would trust implicitly - I really feel their humanity and their total bewilderment at the massive loss to everyone concerned - not once did they throw any real judgement upon anyone - simply pondering upon the questions anyone in their position would ask themselves - obviously, truly lovely people - I pray for their healing and hope they can find some kind of " normality " back in their lives. Their world has just been completely shattered. They are so shaken up. I wouldn't be able to put a complete sentence together. I would be saying gibberish and incoherent things. So screw off to those analyzing everything that these two have said. They thought their friend needed help. Do you immediately suspect a loved one or someone you care about? Do you always see through their lies?! No, didn't think so. Once that trust is built, you are sometimes blind to what could be the truth. They could NOT KNOW what existed beyond what this man --very practiced at hiding-- was capable of doing. They will suffer for years because of what has happened and Chris will be fine, adjust to the simple life in prison and be fine. You can’t even punish someone like this because they aren’t capable of being reached enough to experience deep repentance. He leaves devastation blithely unaware and untouched by it all.

I hope you don’t beat yourself up for supporting and defending Chris. You were good friends, as you said, like family, and you did what good friends and family do in times of crisis. If anyone should be apologizing, it should be Chris apologizing to you both, and many others. It broke my heart when you were speaking about how do you tell a 5 year old her bf is dead, and what is nightmarish is to have to try to explain murder. I’d be looking for a really amazing child and family psychologist to help with this. Is there any way you can go visit family to just remove her from the whirlwind? Like you said, you can’t imagine if she were to hear this from someone. Gosh my heart goes out to you both and thank you for sharing your perspective with us. You can feel the grief before they even speak, I hope they got support through all of this, especially when having to tell their little one. Those beautiful lives touched so many people, I cant even to begin to imagine the loss 💜

Nick and Amanda Thayer are amazing. I love them both. I'm so happy that Shannan, Bella, and CeCe had them in their lives. I'm so sad they've had to endure such pain. Nick Thayer, Amanda Thayer, Nickole Atkinson, Nate Trinastich... along with the amazing folks at the Frederick PD, CBI, FBI, and DA's office, they all help me have faith again in humanity. Nick & Amanda are the loveliest couple. They are clearly 2 sides of the same whole.☯️ I would feel blessed to have them as my neighbours/best mates. I just wish they didn't feel so guilty, nor the need to apologise. THEY DID NOTHING WRONG!! I pray for them & hope you will too.GOD BLESS! 🙏🕊 🌈🦄

The couple who were being interviewed (can't remember their names and I apologise for that) showed more genuine emotion and sense of loss than Chris Watts ever did. I bet the police were just biting their tongues when they realised how Chris Watts was taking advantage of them. Not to mention the risk that a man who could do something so hideous to his own family... if Watts felt endangered in their home, anything horrible could have happened. The detectives were probably chewing their fingernails to the bone worrying about the friends and working frantically to find reasonable cause.

Yep the cops all said they knew immediately right when they saw his interview with the news station on the porch. He couldn't even frown. Smiling the entire time like the cat that got the canary. Literally. Sandy said the second she saw the interview she knew Chris did something. It's so obvious.

John Caulfield People are allowed to care about the dog. Animals deserve to be cared for too. It doesn’t mean we don’t care about the family. You realize it doesn’t have to just be one or the other right? People can care about both the family AND the dog. Why is that so hard for some people to comprehend?

What I think & know is that you & many other ignorant individuals are judging him BEFORE the JUDGE & actual jury have said he is guilty. What I know is the the judge has stated that NO charges have been brought. He is just being held. What I know is that everyone, yes even you are innocent until proven otherwise. What I know is that if he did in fact do this ( found guilty) & I have never said he didn't because I dont know that he did, he will pay for his actions , then & only then is when a judgement call appropriate. I kniw that if you were accused of anything, that you would want to be shown innocent until proven otherwise. I know that you judge you & make sure your world is in order & mind your own as you would want others ro do for you if you were in this situation.
