They did. We actually filmed there last year whilst on the anniversary tour, so will be premiering the vlog soon. We will also be vlogging the other filming locations from the movie. If its not to cheeky could we ask you to like and subscribe as it really the channel grow 😀 we will keep everyone up to date on what happens with the site 😉
I don’t know why they couldn’t have just gave the place a bit of modernisation just done the place up and got it up to scratch. Such a shame it’s closed.
It is. But I think it’s only going to keep happening even Butlin’s Skegness has gone down hill and there swimming pool is also out of order now and they have no clue to when it will be sorted out.
Those lovely entrance gates haven't changed at all since the filming of holiday on the buses was shot here , i believe in may 1973, i strongly suggest Blakey isn't working security for this site now 😢.
The accommodation hadn't really changed from then either. We have a vlog that will be going up to celebrate the anniversary of the film and location take on the tour we did whilstvyhe park was open. Keep your eye out for it and see what else you recognise 👌
Not for the local economy unfortunately. The area thrives on tourism and Pontins whilst needing maintenance and investment still brought thousands and thousands of tourists and events every year. Now shut, out of interest what do you think it should be used for?
I can see Pontins going bust. I suspect the only park that makes money is Brean Sands, purely because they get the guaranteed income from EDF for the Hinkley Point C workers. Had it been open as a park, I suspect it would be losing money. Pakefield and Sand Bay are Adults only which is not Pontins' usual clientele.
If we didn't live near by we would agree but the park was regularly packed and they hosted so many events. I will pop up a short and a couple more vlogs from the park we did last year from the special events on the anniversary of them. The park was definitely making money. We spoke to staff the other day and they said it would of been Christian week soon and they were already planning extra staff for April as it was full, then they were told it was closed with immediate effect. All the events that were booked have been left to find new venues. Nightmare
As to what should become of it, it isn’t rocket science they just need to spend money on the accommodation, and improve the outdoor facilities (having them all open would be a start) even if these were chargeable. The kind of people that patron Pontins have the money for 5 Primark bags of toot hanging off the pram that some of that money could be spent on things in here. Britannia Hotels are their own worst enemy - I’m surprised they have shut them, because these sites have been decline for so long, I can only think that these will eventually be asylum accommodation.
We definitely the site has so much potential. The idea of a retro family holiday where the kids aren't glued to the screens of their phones etc really feels quite wholesome and should be promoted. Unfortunately as you say Britannia has spent very little on the park over the years they have owned it and it is such a shame. If the park is used for anything other than holidays it will lead to a huge decline in the area as we rely on tourism here. If we could be super cheeky and ask you to like and subscribe as it really helps the channel grow and love when our little community contributes to the comment section as it helps others.
Got an awful feeling its going to be inhabited soon but won't be by holiday makers and that literally will devastate the tourism in the area. Love Filey, haven't been in years. Hope you guys are having a great time
We have been on numerous holidays to Prestatyn but always opted for Haven as we preferred it and the facilities are better there or we preferred them anyway and to be honest I’ve never even stayed at a pontins before but have driven past the Prestatyn one before and also as someone who lives near the Pontins in Southport I can honestly say I saw this coming for years as it’s always looked extremely run down and I thought it had closed years ago as never seemed open when we passed it going to the beach!
The gates were always closed to stop access to non holiday makers, presthaven have a barrier but has a public footpath through the park so can't close off fully. It's a shame that with investment Pontins has a real good holiday behind it 😊
If haven were to possibly take they would probably demolish the apartments and build some new ones like they have in their parks and static caravans and lodges.
It is a possibility and some on the inner section are more likely but the top floor apartments have sea view, havens hafan y mor still have apartments by the sea so would think they would do something similar maybe
On the link it says the home office has turned down the southport site which closed shortly after as they require larger sites. This site is huge, no sale signs, investors have been interested but hasn't been sold. Its looking more and more like it as it wasn't down to the company losing money as was likely one if the most profitable, they have sold out events here every year!!!!!
I thought of an idea what thy could reopen the site as an Adult only Holliday village like thy did with sand bay and pakfield it would would make a lot cos leaving the site empty Britannia hotels are loosing money steel just a idea and could be a good one turning the site into a butlins may or may not work
To be honest, the site should have closed at least 10 years ago, it is so tired and dated, needs so much money spending on it to bring it up to standard, probably not economically viable. In better weather there is a nice walk from just about the new home bargains, up to meliden,up the mountain (well big hill), along to dyserth waterfall, and back, nice walk in the summer, a couple of hours gentle stroll
The walk you mention we agree is a lovely walk and is part of the Offas Dyke route. You would be surprised how busy the site still was before it closed. It does definitely need investment though
The site is closed and have been closed since November. No guests have stayed and the site has been locked down. We live locally and each time we have passed they have all been closed. There are now multiple windows open on each apartment block and there are only around 5 staff on site so wouldn't be using all them rooms. Just seemed odd personally 🤔
