The hinge was attached to the block of wood then with the hinge pin removed the assembly was attached via screws to each half of the shell then the hinge pin was replaced.
I’ve never really used Chlorate stars. But everyone always talks about how you have to walk on egg shells around them. But then I always think about the wallop it’s gonna take leaving the gun?!?!? Im by far NOT a master pyro. So I’m guessing there is something I’m missing here in my rationale, but it just seems that gun blast is gonna hit it way harder than I ever would in the shop?!?!

James Brown the larger the “grain” the slower the burn, that allows the pressure to build up a tad slower so it’s less of an explosion and creates more propulsion as the powder burns under the shell and throughout the entire length. The finer the powder the faster and more explosive it will be.
Wow quite a procedure u guys look like a bunch of doctor's operating on a patient. How long does it take to make something like that & what's the weight? I'm totally blown away that u guys hinged it to get it closed & the rachet straps to hold it together wow. I see early in the video that there's 2 of those wasp machines to wrap it. Right? I see that those are being made a few towns away from where I live. Is there anyone that u could put me in touch with locally that I could apprentice under?
The untaped shell weighs about 150 pounds. It takes quite a while to make the stars, burst charge, hemis, and then assemble the shell, then tape it, and finish it. It's truly a labor of love. Yep, the WASP machines are made in CT. CTPyro.com I'd recommend hooking up with a regional guild, the PGI, and studying the available good online tutoring available nowadays.
You'll notice the vents in that drill have been sealed with tape to prevent any sparks from escaping from it. You're right that care must be taken if using any electric tool around pyro.
If you'd used gravity & had each half in a sling on top of 2 'butt jointed' & collapsible boards 1 man could do this safely in under 6sec. Pull center peg connecting both boards & they fall away while also guiding each half to 'clamshell' together, slings make sure it doesn't hit the ground.
