What he did was horrendous, I always thought I was for the death penalty but in recent years I've come to believe that, death is the easy way out, let them live for years in jail, live with the consequences of their actions, maybe he hasn't got a conscience or the capacity to understand what he's done or the damage he has done to everyone involved but death is the easy way out, it won't bring those poor children back. Heartbreaking 💔

I used to be against the death penalty until my Aunt and Uncle were murdered by my cousin. I can say from that experience that life in prison is NOT the easy way out for those FAMILIES. They will have to continue to relieve this over and over with appeals, new laws that require review and possible resentencing, lawsuits this monster can and will file throughout his life for all kinds of nonsense against the state, prison, etc. The families will never heal and life in prison for this person will only cause the scab to be torn open over and over. In my opinion we shouldn't focus on what the easy way out may or may not be for these types of monsters but about what's easy for the FAMILIES so they can have some sliver of peace. The families deserve the mercy!

She had a tough job, but she nailed it. And - the jury agreed with her. Job done! I believe Nicholas is severely damaged. Please check as reference my comment on the Prosecutor Closing. I personally don‘t think that she contradicts when speaking about emotions. If it is between a life sentence and death sentence I tend to believe that an emotion here or there makes us human. Both used it - she won. The emotions against the death penalty makes us humans.
@volk4all805

Whether you like it or not this was a powerful closing and she's an insanely good lawyer. I think ultimately life is the correct sentence. She's right in that the prosecution tried too hard to get emotion to make the jury decision. Taking into account niks whole life, FASD etc, screaming for his blood means you think hhe was normal and don't care about his upbringing ( which is what causes these things). That mind set will only lead to more incidents like this.

I think she did Nicholas a huge disservice though if she truly wanted to get him life-without-parole because when you speak for that long your voice becomes background noise imagery will start dozing off and they will find themselves waking up when their elbows slip off the armrest. I mean of course he eventually got life without the possibility of parole but, I think she made it almost too difficult to listen to her for that long you cannot keep someone's attention for that long you at least have to be interesting. Or even somewhat interesting. It very well could have went the other way because of her lengthy closing
