I stopped using apps and just buy in person. Sellers will purposefully take photos of items to make them look a certain way. Hide bad sewing/ hiding stains in folds. They will pull things back or pin them to make them look tighter but not include a realistic fit photo.
ikr the biggest red flag is when they lay the clothes flat and pull in the waist so it looks like the clothes have an hourglass figure or sumn i always laugh when i see those listings
bro i bought a pair of sneakers once where the listing photo had one sneaker on top of the other, and i thought it was just a weird and artsy way of taking pictures, but no they were trying to hide the fact that one of the sneakers was MISSING THE LACES while still having plausible deniability bc they did technically show that in the listing. like if you looked REALLY close, you could see the problem. unreal !! in my review i said the photos were technically accurate but very misleading lol
honestly i am so careful and selective when shopping secondhand, i try to find things that are made of good quality materials, and that fit into my personal tastes and that i will feel comfortable and adequately covered in wearing outside. i really try to curate items that are *perfect* for me. but its hard, because there are so many factors, and sometimes i think i will really like something, but then because of insecurities i dont like how i look in it. it can be disappointing at times, but its also a really great win when you get something that makes you feel amazing.

Is the strap removeable at all on the chloe paddington bag? if it is you could switch it out for a longer one or - and this was my first idea - add some similar looking metal hoops to elongate it!! it'll just look like a cool gold chain! ❤

i think i'd have to try contacting chloé or take it to a leatherworker cause the straps are securely attached to the bag and i don't wanna mess with it + potentially ruin the bag! i'll definitely look into that though, thank u!!

I'm in the same predicament with a bag and I'm considering cutting the straps off and sewing in new ones - but it is not a luxury bag, also it's just polyester so the risk is small. I hope you figure it out and if you don't I'm sure the next buyer will love it as much as you and I'm sure your boyfriend realizes you do love it.. some things are just beyond our control :') x ❤️❤️
For the bag! You can easily take that to a tailor or if you have the opportunity to go into a sewing/bag making store they sell that exact type of strap in different lengths and you can pick the color closest to the bag and reattach it! It might be just enough to make the bag more comfortable when wearing
About the first dress. First of all OMG THIS IS SO CUTE. Second of all, this looks very "i made it at home with not much experience in sewing" from the few shots you showed, the stitches looked like "home" sewing machine stitches (i completely forgot the right word, English is not my first language) and the fabric pretty much looks like cheap fabric you get on your local fabric shop. I don't know a thing about the brand, this is just what i saw from the images you showed.
Hey jess! Just sharing this. As an asian woman who is just about your size, i mostly buy shein stuff. I would love to buy second hand, i actually really liked second hand shopping when I was in uni where I had a shop I frequent. But these kinds of shops are actually not that common in my area and the cute and actually wearable stuff are mostly resold by insta shops that upcharge the clothing out of the reasonable price range. I find shein actually produces the things I aspire to wear in my size if not bigger. I get the issue that surrounds this topic but living in a mostly freesize kind of country, shein is a lifesaver. Add to that, I actually buy the shein pieces i have not from the app but from facebook resellers that sell the overstock that people thought would have to be trashed becos of the overproduction of fast fashion. If you can believe it, it is sold at even a lower price than in-app.
hi angel! i'm definitely not trying to shame anyone who has limited options for clothing and purchases from shein, i know thrift stores/secondhand shops aren't available to everyone and plus size options can be essentially nonexistent. just personally, for my fashion/environmental justice ethics AND as someone who does have access to other options, i can't support them! but i also really appreciate that you buy them secondhand to prevent them from ending up in landfills! sending u lots of love
With cheaply made clothes, a needle and thread has saved me many times. It takes very little skill to tack a ripped seam back together, and it would be barely noticeable. It’s extremely annoying and clothes shouldn’t be made like that, but you don’t have to feel powerless!

they're sneakers to me cause they have a rubber sole with tread! when i think of ballet flats i think of a leather/pleather sole with absolutely no tread 😭

I had no idea what an instep was until I thrifted a pair of Frye boots and had to struggle so hard to get them on my feet (then taking them off was it's own struggle and even thought I would have to be cut out of them) so alas feel you on the Frye boots!
Try to find a place that works with leather in your area and see if they can chainge the handels or take off the handels and transform a belt from either leather or a thick textile material in to handels that work for you and match the bag .
I like second hand too. Hate paying full price for anything and I hate fast fashion. Well, There were some lace up boots I had to have, could not get them off my mind. I thought I'll wear them with skirts and dress, I'll love them. They are wide calf and fit me perfectly. I think I have had them 2 yrs, still in box, never worn them onetime. Ridiculous
I have the same frankies bikinis dress, I had my bf get it for me while we were in Victoria's Secret and I originally got the XXL bc Frankies bikinis is not usually size inclusive, most of their clothes literally do not go beyond an L or XL. So I made the ill assumption that I'd need to size up even though I'm a smaller plus sized person. I wore it once and the waist AND breast area was SOOOO loose on me. I'm literally G/H cup in most bras, I took it back n exchanged it for the XL and haven't even tried it on nor worn it yet so we'll see. Regardless of it's quality, because I noticed it too and the entire day I did wear the XXL one, I was behaving as delicately as possible as I was terrified of destroying, ontop of the irregular sizing, I'm in love w it and it's absolutely one of my favorite dresses, not to mention it was one of my first Frankie's Bikinis pieces I ever owned. Also, I am obsessed w that white halter dress you showed with the cone boobs. I would've removed the pads with a seam ripper.

Queen, with the bag and the straps being too short, if you can unlink the hoop you could maybe make your own strap with ribbon of a similar colour, or just leave the handles on and add longer ribbon handles to it, that way you could wear it as both on your arm and over your shoulder ❤❤
I buy nearly all non sneaker footwear secondhand. I buy sneakers new because I'm hard on them. I've bought MANY shoes secondhand with great success. Lately though I've had a string of bad luck and I was stumped. I realized it's because I get fixated on a specifc feature or style I "need" to have and end up with a fail because I convince myself that this time ballet flats won't tear my feet up, or surely those heels won't make me curse in an hour. I have to remind myself to stay flexible and not get hypnotized by some ideal I have in mind when I know better.
Okay about Frankies Bikinis - I think that dress you have is from the Victoria's Secret collab so it is soooo much cheaper than Frankies Bikinis dresses usually are. It is quite expensive brand normally.

The ones I have are all solid well-made pieces that definitely last a looot more washes than that dress 😅- but I do think that you are definitely paying an extra instagram famous fee if shopping full price there.

You could try putting a loose insole in the sneakers. I might be projecting but to me it sounds (and looks) like they might be a bit lacking in that regard and that‘s why it feels weird to walk in them.
I wonder how pricey it is in America to hire a seamstress/tailor to sew clothes for you. In Soviet Union it was a thing for people to have or be this person. My mom sewed her formal wardrobe in 2000s and she still wears this clothes, damn I WEAR this clothes
i got a plain shift dress hemmed and it was $25. i do know someone who sews though and recently hired them to make a dress for me! my next goal is to actually learn how to sew myself
pls take that bag to the cobbler!!!!!! they can extend the straps, i also hate straps like that as a plus size person and specifically look for bags with a strap drop the length of my forearm because of that, but you can always extend straps like that with chain or another color of leather.
