I am in the same place as Harriet right now and so appreciate this video! After completing my online color analysis from these lovely ladies I've been full steam ahead paring down my wardrobe and eliminating pieces that don't suit me. I've even built a small fully in palette capsule to really get to know my subgroup. I am so thrilled I went ahead with my analysis! Giulia and Alessandra were such a joy to work with. They gave me confidence all along the way and they showed great integrity and true expertise. Plus they were just so kind in their correspondence to me, answering my questions with grace. As a new mom feeling in a real rut and just blah, they have relit a fire in my self care routine and helped me feel like the very best version of myself. If you are wondering if you should go ahead with your online session, you really should! Now all this winter cool gal needs to do is change her profile pic to something without orange. LOL. So much love to you ladies!
This is really awesome to hear! I am hoping to get a color anlysis done soon, when I am able to have the money for it. I have struggled a lot with self image the last few years, I had three children in just over three years and the last one was a very difficult birth and led to a bunch of issues for me and I haven’t been able to exercise for a very long time. I’m very thankful that now I am able to start do a little bit again and hopefully over the next year I’ll become more my usual shape and size but I honestly just feel so blah and frumpy and self conscious right now. I’m really hoping having my colors really nailed down would help me to feel more comfortable and confident while I do the hard work of getting myself back to “normal”.
@@sorelyanlie2784 I SO relate. You are doing such a great job, momma. I can't imagine three! You are super woman! It's the hardest thing having the energy to invest in yourself when you are spread so thin and giving your all to your little one(s). I am sending you great vibes as we both learn how to rock this self care challenge! I'm so excited for you to find out the truth about your colors and use that knowledge as a sharp sword to cut away self doubt and empower yourself to feel your best!
I can relate so much, after giving birth with gaining and losing weight i've realised my blouses/blazers don't suit me anymore, i've completed the online colour analysis with these 2 wonderful ladies and i've gained much more confidence, i've brought new clothes in my colour palette and i enjoy so much this new journey ! My wardrobe was not 100% in the wrong colour palette,as i provided some photos with my makeup and clothes that i already own ! True Autumn 🍁 here !
I am so with you! I was typed a True Autumn by these lovely ladies and have been purging, plus buying some staple winter wardrobe items. I decided to go with Giulia and Alessandra because they are so down to earth. I just love their channel. I do not regret working with them even being 8,000 miles away! 🙏
I used to think I was cool toned (mild colour PTSD from Giulia's shirts here, I used to wear stuff like that when I'm not winter at all), and had a lot of trouble buying colour. And it makes sense: I was wearing a cool-ish, somewhat soft blue a lot. Well. If I tested cool shirts, they'd viscerally feel weird because they'd clash with my skin. If I tried warm ones, they'd look too extreme with the blue as an outfit - orange for example works with both the cool blue and my warm skin, but it plays off the blue with a big contrast, so it's not a calm look at all. But after an analysis telling me "no, you're warm toned you dumbass", buying colour just got criminally easy: Put on a pair of beige chinos that I used to think were too yellow to work (they were - with my cool shirts), and go shopping. Suddenly, colour is easy. Greens, reds, oranges don't feel so extreme because the shirt, my skin and my pants share a tone, so I can buy a bunch of colourful things and they don't scream anymore, because I took one dimension of contrast away. Now, it feels I'll probably be able to buy anything that's not stupidly extreme (pure bright, really dark, really light) and have it work and feel satisfying because the colour's rich and not apologizing for its existence.
I just discovered a hidden benefit of wearing your palette colors-a benefit I didn’t know about. At the beginning of the video, Harriett was wearing both clothes and makeup that were in her palette, and they looked beautiful. When you put an olive green drape on her, her lipstick suddenly looked as if it didn’t match her coloring. I often have trouble finding a flattering lipstick. I wonder if it’s not the lipstick that’s my problem.
I know my perfect lipsticks colors, but it never occurred to me that the same clothing colors would work well! I did their colour analysis recently and some of the clothing colours were my lipstick colours! Why didn’t I think of this before???
@@teacheschem I think it is an old "trick" that the lipstick will pick up the colour of the garments (if it is in the range from orange, pink, red and all related pastells). With bright reds it can pull the outfit together if the red of the dress is repeated on the lip.
Omg please do this type of videos for other seasons as well! I am a soft autumn and would love to get outfit inspiration for how it could work in real life when I don't have either white or black a neutrals 🥰
Yeah I am well aware. My comment pointed to that I want to see more in-depth examples/videos of how other Autumn's wardrobes look because I thought this specific video was great :)
I am a soft summer. I am naturally drawn to my colours… for example mauve and pigeon blue… I read the book color me beautiful in the 90 ies and was often confused that some colours didn’t feel so good allthough part of my palette…. Until I found out that my main characteristic is softness. I had a lightbulb moment when watching your videos… now I know why soft warm autumn tones are more flattering to me than cool pale colours… thank you! Your passion for and thoroughly explanation of colours are wonderful ❤love from down under, Germany 🇩🇪 😊
Jewelry: Keep in mind that there are many variations on gold. I am a true summer and my wedding ring is a high quality 14k gold that is a champagne gold color, and it goes perfectly with my palette because it is not a warm gold. In the same way that summers can wear light butter yellow. Rose gold can also vary, but it's often best on soft autumns and light springs: still fundamentally warm, but on the edge of their season, so muted with pink added. Like strawberry blond hair. Intensity matters in jewelry too. Winters look best in a bright polished silver that is not the least bit tarnished or faded. By contrast, autumns look best in a very yellowy warm gold, that can be tarnished, burnished, dark, or copper leaning.
The eyeshadow struggle is so real. When I first started wearing make up I already knew that warm colours aren't for me. Took me years to find a good quality light ashy brown. Nowadays it's become a lot easier to find cool-toned eyeshadow than ten years ago but warm-toned eyeshadow is still more common.
Makeup buyer for nearly 40 years here, and both cool and warm MUTED colors have always been easy to get. Saturated shades are harder, especially warm. Spring has it hardest. Most so called warm shades are desaturated corals and greyed down taupes that actually suit Summers not Springs for example.
@@tomjones2157 i completely agree, i don't want to even start how bad we stay with blushes and lipsticks variety! Last few years i struggled with that blue-pink shades of blushes, they got me crazy to be honest 🤣! I have to say though Mac still has a variety of neutral - warm / peaches blushes and i usually look into smaller brands/indie bands even , they tend to have more interesting variety of colours! For blushes in the Spring palette i could suggest you look into liquid blushes from Made by Mitchell, Bperfect has some too , i wouldn't be scared about the pigmentation, just a small dot is enough!
I agree 100%! think those warm, orangey-brown eyeshadows are quite unflattering on most women. Redness or yellowness around the eyes is naturally associated with poor health. I always want to tell them: wear a neutral or cool-toned one instead! The same for those ugly, orangey bronzers, no one healthy has orange skin! 🙂
Ciao girls! Love your videos! Do you have a good suggestion for videos or resources on how to find my correct overtone for foundation makeup? I am a deep winter but have pale olive skin. I struggle to find the perfect shade of makeup. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
I look forward for every new video you release! ❤ Both of you, Alessandra and Julia, are so charismatic! You explain everything so clear and I love the fact that you dont speak too fast or too slow or like a robot. What refers to color analisys I think your channel is the best for this topic😊 I recently discovered the charcoal as a fashion neutral and I just cant believe what a difference it makes compared to black! Charcoal will be my new black 🖤 Looking forward for your next video! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍
There are several cool toned palettes out there. I am also a summer. I have a couple of cool palettes from Colourpop and Natasha Denona. I can get tons of eye looks from just 2 palettes including 1 and done looks. I got rid of all my warm eyeshadows because I never wore them due to every time I tried to make them work I looked hideous - same for any warm colored clothing items. 😬🤦♀
It’s amazing once you’ve had your colors done. You all of a sudden are drawn to those colors. It’s like getting glasses for the first time. I’m a warm autumn and I use to never look at those colors now I love them!
I was thinking the same thing with Retro Glam. Also Bare Minerals has an Ultimate Neutrals eye palette that is cool-toned. I have just bought some cool eyeshadow singles and had a good purge of palettes that were too warm and unflattering. 🙂
Thank you for talking about wearing black when you're a Summer. I wouldn't choose it near my face, but sometimes I'm asked to wear black for choirs or solos. This reassures me that I can improve it using jewellery, makeup and maybe a scarf, depending on the situation.
As someone who thinks black is overpowering and not a particularly subtle day choice, and does the opposite of subdued. At night it simply disappears - however,as a 'night time color ' it is suited to concert - I gravitate towards velvet or velour. It's just that tiny bit softer, while still looking polished.
If I must wear it for situations like that, I ask if I can wear a white collar or scarf, it helps. If not, blush, lipstick and pearl jewelry near the face help, too. But, we Summers are never going to look great in black, but it’s hard to avoid completely, isn’t it?🙂
@@kimberlyperrotis8962 I'm such a believer in "Black is only appropriate for a certain time, place, and occasion " ,that I just can't understand the little black dress cultures that believe it's great for everywhere. Guess it was giving me hints at being a summer all my life ☺️.
Wow that advice about placing silver and gold jewellery next to a colour in the shop is GENIUS! Just a thought, I think rose gold jewellery would be lovely on Harriet.
Another shopping tip! When I make a shopping tour I always wear a blouse or jacket in which color I'm sure that it's in my palette. In the shop I only compare my sleeve with the item - if I can wear the new item with my blouse and they are in harmony so that item is in my palette. The main benefit for me of knowing your color season is that you can maintain a capsule wardrobe with almost endless opportunities to make matching outfits. I'm a big lover of scarfs so every colorful scarf, bag or statement jewelry will create another perfect outfit of the same clothes. Color analysis is a life changing experience for me!
Suggestions for cool eyeshadow palettes from a fellow (soft) Summer: Natasha Denona I Need a Nude, Dior Backstage Cool Neutrals 04, Max Factor Masterpiece Rose Nude, Vieve Ninetease, Huda Beauty Matte Obsession Cool, Tarte Tartelette Juicy, Rom&nd Better Than Palette Secret Garden in Dusty Fog Garden (check out Korean and Japanese palettes in general, they have a lot of soft cool tones), Mac Connect in Colour in Rose Lens, Pat McGrath Mothership VII Divine Rose. And yes, I’m taking my colour palette very seriously 😅
I’d love to see more follow ups like this- mainly because it’s so helpful to see 3 people of different colorings holding the clothing and swatches- you can really see how the colors suit or don’t suit each person. It’s a great complement to your one-on-one analysis format.
I love how you ladies interact with each other and your client. I had a color analysis done 2 years ago by House of Colour. I implemented my Winter /dark winter palette immediately. I immediately saw the impact the right colors had on my face with no makeup on. As a winter, it seems lips and eyebrows are super important in order to bring the face into focus. Is this true? I still refer to the information my palette swatches my representative gave me after the analysis. I use the palette to confirm or disprove that a color harmonizes with my winter family. I was instructed to wear a dark, a light, and a bright in a head to toe way. Silver, gold, and platinum are the harmonizing metals. Please keep making these videos bc you ladies have great insight into how colour works with personality 😊
I find these videos so relaxing. So very happy to see a new one! I think I'm kind of on the cusp between soft autumn/summer. I find it easier to see instantly which are the WRONG colours when I shop, but it seems clothes in my palette are the ones there are the least of. I can see plenty of things I cant wear, less that I can! So frustrating. I have a beautiful black padded coat, which could have been wrong for me, but it has a soft cream fur lining which frames the face, & I wear it with an ivory/taupe/black scarf with a subtle print. I think it works.
I know people that are completly sure they are a specific season while it is OBVIOUS they are not…😅 but they believe it because it is their gut feeling and preference, or they have tried the brightest/deepest/lightest etc colors of the opposite season and not felt good in them, so they believe it is impossible they belong there.
YES absolutely correct! unfortunately society, trends and what the other around wear, make us feel the need to blend into beauty and fashion standards and be someone else! Let’s celebrate our unique beauty and let’s start giving the importance to ourselves, every single colour complex is unique and beautiful 🌈
What's extremely difficult is finding a cool-toned blush. I used to have one and before I knew my colours I was always surprised how well it fit me. And now I can't find a replacement.
Thank you for this fun follow up! Harriet is gorgeous! Question- with cool undertone and a warmer skin tone if we use a warmer foundation, shouldn’t the blush, eyeshadow and lipstick be warm as well for harmony? I did watch your warm/cool makeup video, but this is a lingering question. Thanks! 💄
In my experience as cool-toned person with an extremely strong yellow/warm overtone, no. If you match everything to your overtone, it's really easy to end up with a slightly off "floating head" type feel for your face even if it doesn't look overtly clownish. In my case, when I do wear fuller coverage, I do gravitate to more neutral (compared to my overtone) colors to hit my ideal balance since I've never found a foundation that has been an 100% match. I generally wear much lighter base make-up when I do wear complexion products though, simply because it's a lot easier to strike my preferred balance.
Your passion is contagious. 🙂 Your videos inspired me to get my own fabric to start practicing undertone analysis on my friends and loved ones. Thank you for your presence and enthusiasm. 💜🩵🧡
I'm a Cool Summer and ended up buying the Morphe eyeshadow palette - Floralisse. Its full of beautiful pinks. But it was hard to find and I had to order online.
@MusingOnBeauty it's never been hard to find cool eyeshadows for Summers. Warm shades have been more popular hyped for the past few years but cool toned never stopped steadily selling to middle aged and older customers in shops, ever 🤷
i am a cool summer and i LOVE Huda Beauty's rose quartz palette. Not all shades are cool but many stay in the mauvey, pink, lilac shades and work beautifully on me. For blush I'd say Mac has some good ones like totally synced but i also wanna reccommend korean blushes too.
This is such a great video. So helpful. Thank you! I had my analysis done by you and got my results about a week ago. I’m having so much fun experimenting with colours in my palette. When my clothes and makeup align it’s truly amazing how great I look and feel. I’m so happy I invested in colour analysis with you. You two are the best!
As far as a cool eyeshadow pallette, Colourpop's Stone Cold Fox or That's Taupe are my go-tos. For a truly neutral brown, rather than strictly cool or strictly warm, try Colourpop's Going Coconuts. Natasha Denona's I Need a Nude is more your colors, too. Lots of great choices out there! Cool tones are making a huge comeback.
Great video! I would like to get some tips from you about how to differentiate between bright and soft colours when it comes to light ones. As a true winter, I struggle to find light colours besides white and gray.
As a girl with similar coloring to hair yet, I can say that Huda Beauty Rose Quartz, Natasha Denona Glam and I Need a Nude palettes are really good. These aren’t cheap and they each go for $69 apiece but I shouldn’t last quite a while. Even though each pallet is exclusively cool, they have some great options. I hope thos helps.
Fresh water pearls for trendy jewelry if you don't want gold and can't find silver. Complexion palettes that are all cool toned are hard to find. I do not like the way I look if there is even a tiny bit of warm in my blush and just forget bronzer on me. Color Pop makes a huge eye shadow palette of cools called "Stone Cold Fox".
This is a fun video, taking the analysis to the next step. I’m not very interested in makeup, but wardrobe shopping - yes, absolutely! Plus, I’m a Soft Summer, too, and it’s great to see a model with my palette, like Harriet.
What do you think about Lisa Eldridge eyeshadow palettes? I think they work well, she offers both cool and warm palettes. For example Myth is definitely cool.
The Tartelette Toasted palette is super warm but they also make it in cooler palettes! Original Tartelette is probably the coolest, but Tartelette in Bloom is really pretty too. I have that one and as a summer the majority of the colours are great for me! 🌸
I absolutely loved this video so much, ladies. I am a very visual person, so this helped me understand the points you make in your videos much more clearly. What a sweet, bright young woman, such a great collaboration. I have a question, I been having chemotherapy for breast cancer and have lost all of my hair, as it is growing back now I've gone from mid to dark brown (natural colour) to a grey/white mixture with flecks of dark, more salt than pepper. I don't mind the change, but it looks so different with some of my clothes now. Deeper colours seem to look better with my new lighter hair. Does this mean I've moved closer to another category within my winter palette? Thank you for your wonderful content as always ❤
Colourpop has some nice eyeshadow with cool colors. That's Taupe, Making Mauves, Gone Metal, Blowin Smoke to name a few. If you love vivid Colors, Beauty Bay has palettes that have a good mix of cool and warm colors. The Berries and Age of Opulence palette have vivid pinks and blues.
A dark olive (less brown more green / dark) would look fabulous with the pastells. Not in her palette, but still an elegant darker colour to tie it together. She might get tired of the pastell look. There is a reason she also reached for the black and the darkbrown outfit (leather jacket fabric pants). also denim could be her neutral.
ColorPop makes beautiful, affordable eyeshadow palettes in cool colours. Would definitely recommend as a good place to start. They also make many different palettes so you would struggle not to find something you like and suits you. The Petals en Pointe looks like it would suit a summer really nicely.
This was such a helpful video thank you so much. I understand now why I don't feel good in black pants. The contrast with my tops is too much. I am a soft summer. Yes please do a summer make up video and share brands.
After being typed a True Autumn by Giulia and Alessandra, this video couldn't have been better timed. Ever since being typed, I have been purging out-of-palette clothes I didn't love and purchasing new staple items. He-he, any excuse to shop for me! I live in the United States and was concerned about online analysis, but after seeing my results it totally makes sense. I received a very nice explanation as to my features and the portfolio has been so helpful! If you're on the fence about an online analysis, do it, you will be very happy working with them. Thank you ladies for this perfectly timed video from another True. I needed these videos. (I also watched Harriet's video. 😁)🙏
The magic of color analysis!!!! Ever since I had my analysis done with you so much has changed also!! Things make so much sense now when it comes to picking flattering colors!!! Tip for winters and cool tones...Natasha Denona glam pallete has very nice cool tone shadows. Chanel has a few also. Greetings from New York!!!!❤
I just loved your videos, this is the first time I'm 100% sure I'm a deep winter, you explained everything so well in the analysis process that I had no doubts. ❤
Strange thing is that at the first look I have colouring very similar to the guest of the episode (before she bleached her hair that is) yet she is a Summer and I'm a Winter (cool). Soft colours make me washed out and I need the strong, vivid ones. I look great in true red, black, white and high contrast so I might even be a True Winter. But because of my light colouring with light brown hair and blue gray eyes almost everyone assumes I need pastels until I actually demonstrate to them how both Winter and Summer palettes look on me.
For twenty years, yellowish, camel tones dominated the “beiges” and warm orangey cognac dominated the browns that were available, and they never looked good with my cool-undertoned coloring. When cooler taupe and browns became available again this year, I stocked up on quality basics in these colors. Taupe, especially, looks beautiful with light, cooler-toned skin. I love wearing it, especially with white - my favorite neutral. It’s already vanishing from shops, because brands make money by pushing “new” colors. I do love cognac brown for accessories with neutrals like white, navy, etc. Accessories like belts and bags don’t occupy much visual space and aren’t worn near the face, so they make a nice contrast.
Although I believe myself to be cool toned (maybe soft summer? 🤔), I still feel like the most flattering eyeshadows for me tend to be quite orange-y browns, because they contrast with my blue-green-grey 😅 eyes 👀. That makes sense, doesn't it?
Thank you, this was great as always! I loved the tip about how when you feel you need to add makeup it probably means the color is not working for you! 💡🤯💯 That is so helpful!
I also have a cool undertone, but find that many cool foundations look bad on me. I look best in neutral foundation shades. Estée Lauder makes very nice neutral foundation shades that do not look yellow at all. My perfect match is 2N1, Desert Beige.
I recommend Dior make up. They have cool, warm and neutral palettes all labelled to make things easy. Not the cheapest brand but hopefully others have recommendations. Biggest problem I have living in Northern hemisphere is dressing in winter. Finding summer clothes is a challenge in winter.
Soft summer here (analyzed by you!). Finding clothes for dressier occasions is really hard! So many muted or heathered colours are found in t shirts or athletic wear. Who has found a great clothing company with my palette? Most of the navys are too dark, beige is too warm….it’s crazy!
White shirt or blouse is a classic, you have nothing to worry about. Also, beige is considered a casual colour, greys are a classic choice for formal wear, especially in business environment. An all grey outfit is stunning (incl. all silver jewelry).
I have the opposite problem. Deep autumn colours are usually in super glamorous clothes. Makes sense why I always end up preferring evening wear. But makes casual dressing hard as there arent many teeshirts in eggplant and burgundy….
I'm so happy that i've chosen to do my online colour analysis with you!. I have already brought many items in my palette that i have never explored and was extremely easy to choose, my colours were poping before my eyes, i don't know how to explain😅😅😅! I am also very excited because pantone colour of the 2024 is peach fuzz so this mean we are diving in more warm colours for makeup as well , not necessarily only eyeshadow palettes ( i can't wear pink blushes ) 😊. Being a True Autumn i find that we have a variety of warm tones eyeshadow palettes, but blushes and lipsticks with warm hue are hard to find and for cool toned people is vice versa ! 🧡💚❤️🤎
Jones Road has some good cool colors. They also help people choose the right colors for them. You just have to send them a make-up free selfie in good light.
Huda beauty mercury retrograde is a great summer pallet, urban decay naked 3 also was a great option for summers, I'm a winter, and I feel lancome has some beautiful cool pallets but it's more expensive
Would definitely love to see something on makeup. According to Alessandra I am also a True Summer. Cool makeup tones in general are hard to find! Great video ladies👏🏻
Very helpful! I'm a summer as well and this is recognisable. Wondering about white though, isn't that supposed to be too sharp for summers? More suitable for winters? I've read several places that summers should wear white mixed with a tough of blue-greenish grey in it or like light linen instead. I find those work a lot better than bright white 😊 I'm curious about your approach to white for summers though!
I am summer (cool summer most likely). Snowwhite is good, especially if I have a bit of a tan. And offwhite is also O.K. - any wihite with more yellow (wool white, cream) is bland bordering on bad for me (I have a bit of a grey undertone).
Wow this video is amazingly helpful! I have just been colour analysed by these beautiful ladies also as a True Summer. I did get into a bit of paralysis of not buying anything worried it wouldn't be the perfect shade but have found my way. These tips are amazing would love to see more of these videos and also more outfit and makeup tips too 😊
Does the colour of your bottom part really matter, like pants and skirts? All colours "goes" with black. As long as you have your own palette on the upper half/ close to your face, can't you wear all other matching colors and neutrals on the bottom? Also, what the heck lol? Every make- up expert tells us to match the foundation to your undertone. I've never found a match like that, and it's been driving me crazy. Matching the foundation to your overtone makes so much more sense! Gonna try that, thank you :)
I would say, yes and no, because the choice of neutral does have a strong effect on the overall outfit, and some people "handle" contrast much better than others. Also, black is kind of like a black hole in terms of visual weight. It's like the difference between looking at an outfit in totality vs the eyes going straight to the black. (You can see this effect in the difference between Harriet in the faded black versus solid black). If someone other than a deep autumn wears a warm color (like camel) on top and then pitch/vivid black on the bottom, the chance of an observer's eyes going straight to the black is a lot higher. For someone like me whose recommended neutral is black, when I wear one of my no-no colors on the bottom (any of the faded warm earth tones), the visual weight is automatically on the top part of my body, where my face is, which is generally what people aim for when pursuing color harmony. All that said, there are so many other ways to play with visual weight in an outfit (many of which don't even involve color!), so I guess take all this with a grain of salt from someone who enjoys fashion.
Ah so interesting with the undertone. I've been classified as a soft winter. I have found that I can wear most blues regardless of the undertone. Blue is my safest colour. Also very soft colours usually wash me out but with soft blue the effect is not as bad 🤔
I am also at the same stage. I was recently draped as a warm spring, but most of my clothes are autumn (which i thought I was).I am finding neutrals for coats the hardest thing, as my wardrobe is full of olive green coats. Camel is normally good for springs, but the consultant said it does not look so good on me, it is too close to my skintone, I am trying to find the right greens and reds for coats. I can wear a dark charcoal, but it is hard to find, as most coats seem to be black, rather than charcoal. I live in the Scottish Highlands, so depend upon a puffer coat with a hood to protect against the weather conditions. I hope to find a coat in the January sales soon!
I think it is also important to mention that when it goes to clothings, one should also consider Dwyn Larson appearance types to consider forms, fabrics, shapes, cuts, lengths.
Our Mom gifted a Color Me Beautiful analysis to me and my sister forty years ago, and I’ve always found it very helpful. We three ladies had it (each a separate analysis) together, with a group of friends present, it was so fun. We made it an occasion, outdoors in the shade, for the best natural light, with a special lunch. I was typed as Summer, this was before they added their subtypes. I, with decades of experience working with my color palette behind me, subtyped myself as a Soft Summer, the other subtypes didn’t work quite as well. Also, being close to neutral, I look fine in some Soft Autumn colors, the ones without yellowish bases like the golds and oranges, they clash with my undertone. I was about 21 or 22 at the time of the analysis, so it helped me shop better all these years. I ended up dropping two of the recommended hues: gray, which always felt drab to me, and purple, which I found difficult to style. It’s so hard to find the clothes I want in “Not Black”. I don know how it is in Australia, but here in the US the majority of clothes come only in black and one trendy bright hue, if any color at all, but I don’t wear clear, bright colors, they must be muted. It’s hard to have a completely non-black wardrobe, but if I do wear it, I almost always wear a white or light top, or scarf or collar/cuffs, at least, some pearl jewelry and some cheek and lip color, I don’t usually wear makeup, only sunscreen. I bought several black-on-white patterned silk shirts to wear with my black bottoms. I just bought a skirt I love, but it’s black, the only color offered, with these shirts, I can get some wear out of it.
There are tailors that work in India, one sends them the measurements, choses the fabrics and they create the garments. Now I see the problems (identifying colours online, screen representation of colours, never mind the fit). Especially for formal garments (lined jackets / blazers, pant suits and costumes). Or coats. Online shoppping. Maybe vintage shopping could help ? There must be fabulous 70s costumes around. As a summer - how about charcoal ? - for me (mostly cool summer) it is a very good substitute for black. And I have been hunting for a pant suit in navy (not dark blue a "bright" navy blue) for a long time. Taupe is also good (brown with a touch of pink and grey). Are there any aubergine colors / dark reds in the soft autumn palette ? A friend found a very nice dark red / aubergine pant suit at H & M. Looked very good with an expensive blouse (the pant suit was not expensive at all). H & M may have a different more colourful collection than normal shops. Or would it be possible to get stuff from Canada or Mexico ? for cultural reasons the large chains may have more colourful garments there. I once found a pant suits in a fine black fabric (with a light shine) with a white pinestripe pattern. Interestingly that looked good, normally black is too harsh for me. the light fabric the pattern breaking it up, a flattering cut ... it worked well. Even pattern can make a differenc and make a garment wearable that seems out of palette.
Thank you for all your videos! I had a colour analysis with you in May and loved it! My season is true winter and I am adapting my wardrobe and makeup to be in palette - out of all the colour analysis and makeup videos I’ve seen, you’re the only ones who give the advice not to pick foundation based on undertone! and it has made getting the right colour so much easier. But my question is about bronzer - can cool seasons wear it or should I avoid it?? I like it because it adds dimension and shape to the face but wonder if it clashes with my season. Thank you! X
TW here too! Bronzers tend to lean warm which may give an unnatural ‘muddy’ appearance for us so the general advice is to add color with blush and avoid bronzer. For dimension, play with highlight instead (avoid golden highlighters). I would maybe suggest a cool-toned shadow if you really want to add some sculpting. I used to have a single eyeshadow from Sephora that worked well for me as contour so maybe using a cool shadow that you might already own in a palette would work?
