It's the new year and I am ready to get a few spaces tidied up and refreshed for 2022! I started this month in my bedroom closet, a small yet hardworking space that I need to function well day in and day out as a busy mom of 4. I hope this video encourages you to find your own "uniform" style and let go of anything that doesn't make you feel your best.

I grew up in a large, poor family. Never had more than 3 blouses, two slacks. Because of that, I hold on to ALL my clothes too long. Now, I tell myself, re-thrift things. My new philosophy is "you can't reach out to new things, new experiences, new favorite clothes, etc. ...if your hands ...or mind...is still holding tight to old clothes, old hurts, old regrets." This is how I am helping myself grow, change, try new things...in a new year!

Also back in the day clothing was made with better quality, and people had fewer items across the board. So I think if you have a minimalist/organized closet it will make life much easier. If you want to try something, maybe borrow a similar item from a friend to test it out.

Ok, I finally donated some pjs that didn't ever feel good and some other tops in my closet that were a little big or a little small. Took an a half hour if that to do it, and super relieved now.

Your wooden hangers are nice, but take up so much space. I love skinny velvet hangers. Things don't slip off. You can fit way more in a closet. Always enjoy your channel.

I always enjoy your decluttering process videos. After this difficult past year I've found myself wearing too many oversized, careless things. So, for my mental health and spirit I went through my clothes and donated those items. I've promised myself I'll wear more fitted, flattering outfits this year even if I'm working in the house alone all day.

I feel like we both have changed size after our babies this time. It has been fun finding new items and changing out pieces we no longer wear:) Also, I remember your vest years...I still have my one black vest that I wear for layering and keeping warm around our house and out for walks- on warmer winter days. Always enjoy watching your cleaning videos. Hubby and I are building a new house to prepare for retiring in a few years. Doing a downsize and my closet will be really small compared to what I have had. I have been planning how to have a basic wardrobe that is more realistic, especially since I have worked from home for about 5 years and don't need as many clothing options. I am finding if buy a few higher quality pieces that last longer I prefer that to multiple items. Happy New Year Hillary!

Love a tidy closet! I find, when buying thrifted clothes, I have WAY more in my closet than I need,,.... because hey, it was a dollar! I also find that I buy clothes that may not always fit the best, because - hey! It is two dollars...which leads me to have a closet full of clothes where I have way to much, and items I don't tend to grab, because they fit funny or are not comfortable...

I have worn vests for ages and I was looking for a new one but couldn’t find one I liked and decided that if I’m cold around the house, I’ll just wear a long sleeved a Cuddle Dud under a woolen sweater and that should do the trick.

It sure feels good to clean out a closet and you really motivate me to do it although I am still taking down Christmas decorations and you’ll be proud of me because I condensed my Rubbermaid bins down to 37 oh my goodness. No my house isn’t huge but I’ve been married for a long time and I’ve collected many things over the years I have downsized but I probably need to downsize some more and I definitely need to quit crafting🤣

I am having such a hard time getting rid of clothes. I worked retail and have so many items that I haven't worn since the Lock Down, since I'm not working. But, they were investment pieces and I wonder if anything will get back to the "old" normal. We just don't travel or go out either. Maybe I should quarantine them for awhile and revisit?

I think that’s a great idea, stash them away somewhere so you don’t have to see them every day and go through that debate every morning! Make your closet work for your current life stage and re-evaluate in a few months ❤️

I’ve had them in the past, and honestly don’t care for how they stretch out thinner clothing items. I don’t feel I need more space so I’m very happy with the function and look of the wood, but the velvet are definitely great for space saving!

I went on a decluttering journey last year (still in it) and things I think Cas from Clutterbug and Dawn from the Minimal Mom would tell you is “if it’s not a clear yes, it’s a clear no.” Also, you’re keeping things for your “fantasy self”. I love all their decluttering tips.

Pull out what you DO use and see what’s left. Make a “time will tell” bin and stash items away in another room to be re-evaluated later. I bet once it’s out of sight it will be out of mind and you’ll learn to live with just your favorites.

I always thought a walk-in wardrobe would be great - until I had one and never threw anything out for 10 years. Yikes ! I much prefer a smaller wardrobe with clothes I wear all the time, not just once (or never). More intentional, less waste.
