Welcome to Cloud Forest of Gardens by the Bay, a botanical wonderland in Singapore that is a masterpiece of technology, engineering, and horticulture. This garden is a testament to Singapore's commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
At the heart of the Cloud Forest is the world's tallest indoor waterfall, which plunges 35 meters from a towering mountain covered in lush vegetation, surrounded by misty clouds and a lush rainforest.
The cloud forest is home to a diverse collection of over 130,000 plants from all over the world, including rare and endangered species. As you explore the attraction, you'll see plants from the cool and moist highlands of tropical regions. You'll also discover exotic species like the carnivorous pitcher plants, beautiful epiphytes that grow on trees and rocks, and rare aroids that we have come to love.
The attraction's domed structure is supported by massive steel arches that span over 50 meters, and its glass panels provide natural lighting while keeping the interior cool and comfortable for visitors. Can you imagine the cleaning and maintenance of such glass panels? Plant maintenance is held only once a month during closure day via a 35 meter high boomlift.
The Cloud Forest is also designed to be sustainable, featuring a rainwater harvesting system that collects and recycles rainwater for irrigation and cooling purposes.
Artwork were distributed throughout the garden, such as this fine work by Dale Chihuly made with blown glass and steel.
While the Cloud forest is the most popular and famous attraction - and require paid admissions, the Gardens by the bay is actually an impressive 101 hectare park sitting on reclaimed land, with over 1 million plants from more than 5,000 species.
Electricity for the conservatories is harnessed from horticultural waste collected from all across Singapore that is burnt at a biomass plant on-site.
Towering over the gardens, these supertrees are man-made structures with vertical garden element, meant to tribute the dipterocarps - some of the tallest trees in South east asia rainforests. These structures are home to over 162,900 plants from more than 200 species.
I cannot wait to come back and visit each of these features another time, but for now, an epic adventure at the cloud forest awaits!

As much as I wanted to enjoy this garden, the constant whining about how people are getting in the way puts a bad taste in my mouth. Am I sensing a brush of arrogance here? I hope not.

And find out the time when they spray the mist in the cloud forest. Before the mist subsides, go inside the tower. The experience is very different. It's a must to have the mist presented.

18:40 Begonia Carolineifolia, I've also seen it being called "The Palm Begonia". Loves it on the dry side, is what the seller told me when I bought mine. Lovely plant, unique look especially when they get bigger. Does well in 40-60% humidity according to sources I deem very reliable, so it should be fine in most living rooms with the right light

@onlyplants
@onlyplants Год назад
Oh true i didnt see them too. Maybe alocasia is to keep spidermites away… its also possible that monsteras are not known to be high altitude plants? While anthuriums and some philodendrons are
@Psykojunk
@Psykojunk Год назад
Ahh yeah spidermites could be the reason! Alocasia's are also no climbing plants ofc. I did miss them a little on maybe some flat surfaces. But monstera's are excellent climbing aroids I think, but I don't know about high altitude.

It's because Monstera grows just fine outside in our crazy weather and doesn't require the greenhouse or any sort of specialized care. If they planted Monstera in here under prime conditions, they'll literally grow to monster size and take over everything. We generally use Monstera plants as landscaping foliage for public areas in Singapore. Whether it's in full sun or inside a mall, Monstera has proven to be remarkably adaptable here. I walk past a whole patch of them at my train station everyday.. and they have trunks thicker than my arm and I have never seen the staff do more than water them sometimes.
@onlyplants

Yes I see Monsteras everywhere on the roadsides! Here in Indonesia they are considered expensive and they are prone to get stolen.

Might need to take a couple bouncers ( security ) next time 😄 Really felt for you.....but you did well, Wish you could have spent a bit more time there. Maybe another opp will come when the Avatar exibit finishes and all it peaceful as there were so many plants that caught my eye in just in the frame...would LOVE more detail. I've always wondered how they import huge and rear plants across the world over. Would you mind doing a video on the logistics of finding a special plant, and relocating it to a huge greenhouse?
@onlyplants
@onlyplants 11 месяцев назад
Ooh this really depends on many factors… most important being the import regulation of the specific country. Singapore opens its doors to imports with almost no restrictions, its the easiest country to import. Which is why it enjoys such a huge diversity if plants worldwide. Also when you are a government backed project or a conservatory, there are different process (much easier) to bring in endangered, and also huge plants. It would most certainly have to be air-flown.
