Howdy James! I've seen some contents here on youtube telling that cloud native is messy, and platform engineering is the solution to a modern software development stack. Can you tell us your thoughts about it? As a cloud engineer who just starting my career in the world of cloud, should I focus now on learning platform engineering rather than taking cloud native? Hi Noel, learn both! There will be overlap on some areas with cloud native being a wider holistic than platform engineering (assuming, you’re referring to this from a software engineering specific viewpoint). Really, it is going to depend on your end goal and either which way, learning both would be beneficial. For example, with cloud native there is an emphasis on tools and approaches like Kubernetes and containerisation. On software development (platform engineering), you’re going to get more focus on things like cicd pipelines, version control etc. Whilst both cover these topics mentioned you’re likely to dive in further on the detail for specific topics on one side vs the other. Typically I would recommend learning Cloud Native with something else so this could be your something else… other options might be an AWS/GCP/Azure focus, Software Development, Kubernetes (focussed), Observability etc. Hope this helps!
