Not only the funniest movie/ movie scene, when I saw this movie at the theater in 1976 when it was released, they showed a split second full frontal nudity shot of Lesley Anne Down, and she was the total package.perfect everything...genuine Venus on Earth...still have that image burned into memory 43 years later...!
This was the first movie I ever saw that made me laugh so hard that I was literally in physical pain the next day from having a sore stomach, especially 1:50 when the guy starts to fall and scream in slow motion. I mean I was fucking crying the first time I saw this scene and I literally had to pause it and catch my breath after the scene so I didn't pass out. And for the rest of the day I would randomly think of parts from this scene and start laughing all over again and have people looking at me like I was a fucking nutcase. This movie will ALWAYS be on my top 3 list for movies with the absolute funniest moments. I'm sure the other Pink Panther's had plenty as well, I just only got the chance to ever see this one.
This was the best of their battles. I remember for like maybe 3 years in the 70's these films used to always come out in the summer and it was THE event of my summer vacation when we'd go as a family to see them. One of the rare times I saw my Dad really laugh out loud. and my Mom would start to giggle as soon as Clouseau came on the screen.
I know what you mean. i love the slow motion scenes. I love the ones of Dreyfus when he falls in slow motion. Now they're all up there: Clouseau, Dreyfus, and Kato.
I'll always remember when I first saw it too :D I had been hospitalized on my 14th birthday because of a tumor. A few days after it had been removed, I was watching TV with my dad and this was on and it was TORTURE :'D
I saw it in the theater the week it came out and that's probably the hardest I've ever seen an audience laugh at *anything.* I was sore as well, from so much LMAO.
My Dad took me and a friend to see it in the theater and we were laughing so hard, we nearly fell out of our seats!! He and I watched it again six months ago and we were still laughing as hard!!! What a classic!!!!
The slow motion bits are genius, particularly the sound in the second piece with Dreyfus falling off the ladder. Sounds like bagpipes slowly deflating and totally cracks me up.
Absolutely timeless. I died laughing for it as a kid 40+ years ago and it's just as funny today. The undercranking of Clouseau/Kato showing off their weaponry going immediately into Kato's slow-motion yell at Clouseau and ensuing howl of pain is peak slapstick comedy editing.
*Triumphant battle cry* Clouseau cracks him across the neck with the nunchakus *Battle cry becomes pained squeal* All in slow motion. They sound like Doom demons, and it's absolutely hilarious, why can't today's movies be as funny as these 4 minutes?
Gotta love it when they first get their weapons and show off to one another, Kato swinging the stick around and Clouseau using the Nun-chucks like he's drying himself with a towel
Well people die every day. However, a lot of the big names have been going such has Bowie, Prince, Muhammad Ali. Compared to them, Mr. Kwouk is a smaller name but still- very sad.
This scene.....honestly this scene made my stomach hurt with laughter and tears run down my face , jaw and cheek bones ache as a teenager first watching this on TV . Now 50 and still has me in stitches all these years later. Scene 7 and many others are equally stomach achenly funny........pure scenemtic comedy gold never to be equalled!!!!!!!.😂😂😂😂.!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for uploading this...I agree with everybody on here, this movie and in particular this scene had me crying until it hurt as a kid. This is how you do physical comedy. And the part that puts it over the top is 3:45 when he says 'I see' and steps on the finger and you hear the scream from Dreyfus...used to rewind and re-watch over and over and over.
John Marsh and the little bit where Clouseau steps back off his finger then it goes straight and goes back down the hole as Dreyfus falls down. Brilliant!
I was eight yrs old by the time I saw this for the first time. Couldn't stop roaring in laughter (specially at slo-mo passages). This was imho best CvC scene of all.
+Mieke Bergmann Yepp... that does exactly cover with my reactions... my mother wanted to be a spoilsport, she bothered i could take serious health issues because of my laughing and said she would turn off the tv, if i would not stop.^^
I remembered these films used to always come out in the summertime, so it was the highlight of my summer when we'd go as a family to see them, only time I can remember my Dad really laughing at something. And this was perhaps the best one in the whole series
I love all the Clouseau vs. Cato scenes, but this one is my all tme favorite. I saw this at the theater when it premiered, and everyone in the audience was laughing hysterically.
I just love it. Epic scenes of mindless destruction and violence. Dramatic slowmotions, excellent miming (just notice the diabolic facial expression of Clouseau when he hits Cato after the fight has officially ended). Timeless.
I remember seeing this as a kid when it was aired on the television. It was the first film I can remember that not only made me laugh out loud, but actually sitting on the floor in front of the television crying in absolute hysterics throughout pretty much the entire movie. I remember that this particular scene caused what can only be described as "so funny it hurts"!
Few scenes in movie history make me laugh as hard as this one. I’m quite literally in tears during Cato’s long drawn out roooooooooaaaaarrr when Cleuseau breaks the nunchucks across his back right up to Dreyfus slow mo fall. Truly, absolute gold standard of slapstick comedy.
Now that's what you call comedy not the garbage they have these days. The first time I saw this movie it made me laugh so hard that my belly hurt. The whole Pink Panther series is fantastic but this one is my favorite.
Big shoes to fill, Sellers was an extraordinary actor, easily would be among a top 5 of best actors ever imho. I bet there were plenty of directors who found convenience in the idea that Sellers could fill 3 very different roles within a movie playing them all to perfection too if needed be.
Some may not know this, but The Pink Panther Strikes Again is the only movie where both Clouseau and Cato started the fight with weapons. All the other Pink Panther movies with Sellers involved the duo just using their hands and legs.
Hey, you're right! I never thought of that. There was another film where Kato popped out of the fridge and attacked Clouseau. I think that was in the next film
My dad used to watch the Pink Panther movies with me when I was a kid. We would laugh hysterically. Great times and still hilarious today. This scene is a gut buster.
These scenes bring back so many great memories of my old man and me as he would take me to the Pink Panther movies or watch them at home in the den. Damn good man! I repaid the favor taking him to see Goldmember years later. Of course the Cato scenes were our favorites. Brutal cheap shot by Clouseau. Classic!
This is some unbelievable choreography on the part of these two brilliant actors. Yes the Cato guy was brilliant too. Bruce Lee he wasn't, but boy was he funny as well. And the use of slow motion was spectacular, but the fast motion too of Clouseau practicing his nunchucks. Why would a guy whose about to get 40 winks allow his butler to constantly attack him in his home? Lol. Wouldn't Cato be looking for work after this?? But to me the funniest part of the scene is when the phone rings, and they immediately stop the nonsense. When Clouseau tells Cato, The Fooooon is rrringing, that's when I lost it. Just comedic brilliance. Peter Sellers was the Man!
Simply love the Cato vs. Clouseau fights! Outstanding! Especially when Cato backs off and Clouseau clobbers him! Love Cato! Love! Love! Love! them both!
I agree with so many of the commenters don't think I've ever gotten passed the scene where he Crack the nunchuck on the back of head and that was only that art of the madness I love Peter Seller's very funny man
Cato sources all the shitty replacement furniture from his cousins in the Triads and gets a cut of the profits. There's a reason why they switched from tabletop games to absolute mayhem indoor combat.
