It would really be worthwhile to make a documentary about this Houston scene. It seems to have affected so many people, yet there is little trace of the history of these venues, DJs and the culture the spawned.

Royce Carroll it’s unbelievable how many people type “houston” on all these club songs. I’m gonna start doing it as well just for the fucks

Can't hardly find anything about Power Tools on the net.

@@Orlosthedruid Power Tools address was 709 Franklin IIRC, downtown at the corner of Franklin & Milam (by the Brewery Tap). It later was named Rehab & probably a couple other names. I spent a lot of time at Power Tools in the early 90's. Awesome place and will never forget it.

MDMA was first developed in 1912. It eventually was re discovered in Dallas (SMU) early 80's and then quickly became part of the Club Circuit in Texas. It spread to the UK and together with the US Techno / New Wave Artists, created this Club / House Techno Ecstasy Genera of Music. I lived through this and have yet to find any accurate, documented history on the 80's Techno scene and it's Ecstasy origination...yet, listen to New Order, Depeche Mode and countless other bands of that time...and all of their hit - songs are about Ecstasy!

The Shepard St dive was NRG and that is where it all started. Used to spend all night there then drive to the beach. Those were the days. Too bad we can't go back in time. Wouldn't have done it different. Props to you DJ FLAX

I closed down Hippos and Club 6400 every weekend of their existence up until the fire destroyed 6400. 1985 to 1989 were the best years of my life hands down. Miss all my Houston Friends from back then. Houseman, New York New York, Dinn Daa Daa, The Rain, Relax. That music was some of the greatest Club music ever. !!

@@Orlosthedruid I too, left for the Army in 88 to head to the 82nd Airborne, I brought buddies down with me on leave, and they were astonished how awesome the club scene was in Houston at that time between 88 to 93, and believe me we tried it everywhere up and down the East coast from Miami to New York, nothing compared to Houston in that time frame :-)

I really appreciate this thank you for putting this out there I was 12 years old and I would stay up late at night listening to the radio and record these songs so that I could hear them during the day later on on life we, would go to some teen club behind Almeda Mall.

🔥🔥🔥The Feels, the Vibes....WOW! This is an AMAZING and accurate mix that replicates the sound of the late 80's club scene in Houston, TX. Bravo, sir. H-Town represent!!!!

OMG the clubs!! 6400, NRG over on Shepard, Numbers, one up on 1960 called "Industry". Almost every one in there was "Wigging" hard. They call it rolling now I guess. SO MUCH FUN !! back in the day. This music brings it back so hard I'm in tears.

Most, if not all of these records were purchased from Houston's Record Rack back in the mid-late 1980s, yes?

Hey DJ --- do you have any the following that you can throw into one of your awesome mixes: Telekin - Imagination, Call It Heaven - Feeling Like a Stranger, Philadelphia 5 - Baby Do You Wanna Bump, The Weathermen - Let Them Come To Berlin, Hubert Kah - Welcome Machine Gun, Nitzer Ebb - Join In The Chant, Dirty Harry Dbop, Vicious Pink - Take Me Now
@djflax8806
@djflax8806 2 года назад
@@justogarcia175 I sure can but all of those songs are in some of my mixes on the channel. I’m sure you’ll stumble across them while listening. Except for Vicious Pink as that is one of many bands that RU-vid won’t let me play due to copyright. I have lots of songs that I can’t play due to that bs.
@darenwixson3449
@darenwixson3449 2 года назад
@@djflax8806 copyright crap sucks. I make drone videos and put music on it, RU-vid CR gets me too. Seems if you are not making $$ on it they should let you. Too bad you cannot just list all their names and song names to give them exposure, that would help the bands sale their music!

Progressive, Alternative, industrial, acid ... when these terms represented a scene, a genre, A CLUB. Something different from hair bands and bubblegum pop. Pumping bass that rivaled rap and hip-hop of the time. Music that sometimes hit harder than the rock tunes of the time, but you could still dance to. I enjoyed Ocean's Club, but they deluted, watered down what was once Club 6400.
