I'm thinking it's the juxtaposition that really makes it hit. We see these adorable animated penguins in such a horrific situation and it makes it hit different. Also it hits even harder when you watch the full thing; it's frankly brilliant.
@@worndown8280 Yup, it's a real film. It's called Penguin Memories: Shiwase Monogatari. Pretty sure it's floating around on YT somewhere, fully subbed.
Holy shit. At first I was laughing, at how silly these cute characters are in the setting of war, but ... Stuff got really serious and dark, fast. I was not expecting to cry at the end of this. This is impressive. I need to see the rest of this.
This video truly demonstrates the horrors of war in a way that no other anti-war videos could. Thank you for uploading this emotional video, I'm in tears.
It was actually made in the 1980s, it's a Japanese film called Penguin Memories: Shiwase Monogatari. It was funded by Suntory as an elaborate ad campaign for their beer. The film itself isn't an ad though, just a publicity stunt. It's very heavy and quite an experience to watch. Deals with the horrors of war and subsequent PTSD as the soldiers struggle to return to their old lives.
So they made this for a beer promotion? On the one hand im not surprised since this is japan, but on the other hand im surprised because *its fucking japan* @@kenjutsukata1o1
No joke, my grandpa fought in the Vietnam War and this genuinely helps me understand the shit he went through and what he must've seen. Love you, Grandpa, even though you probably won't watch this video, and happy 80th birthday :)
You can download it from my website for now. :) It was removed from google play due to a false copyright claim recently, It'll be back up on google play soon.
This video is such a sad and depressing story, I hope all the penguins that served, fought, and died for their country in the vietnam war got rewarded for their service. ❤
Keep in mind this movie was promoted to sell beer. My main interest is, who were they marketing it towards? The shellshocked veterans who had to watch a dramatic retelling of their experiences in the format of cute anime penguin people?
Kind of? It's strange that suntory never comes up in the movie itself until the end credits where they're credited. The thing is Japan doesn't have many veterans since they don't have a standing army. The JSDF does participate in foreign conflicts but always in limited capacities. So they don't really have a huge veteran population to sell to like the US does
This movie was actually also partially a product placement film, as the penguins designs are based on the mascot for Japanese beer company Suntory, who also helped fund the films production. So yes, this is an American directed Japanese anime war documentary with cutesy penguins, based on a beer company mascot.
@@Sibbot pff. I don't think that something can beat WWII, with infinite horde's of ivans rushing German machineguns with one rifle per three men - and winning.
All The Club Penguins are fighting in the Vietnam War for their survival, and Pingu is literally just walking around the field being Pingu, NOOOOOT NOOOOOOOT
Unfortunately, after the Absoulte Zero Event, where the Penguin Economy began to break apart, many were given the opportunity to move to what was believed to be Sanctuary. A place of home, love, safety. However, only half the population moved, the other half stayed put and stood their ground, even when the Relocation Specialist Forces had been deployed in the small island to hunt them down. Few managed to escape and where known as the Original Refugees. They found a better, more secluded area, they dubbed ,”the Mainland.” It wasn’t long until they would communicate and trade with any nearby cities or villages. Meanwhile, the Sanctuary residents realized they were set in a trap, to be exploited for whatever they held dear. Although the rich had prospered, those below had little to no clothing, were closed off from any major centers. They felt that they had no hope, until they heard of the Original Refugees and their growth in the Mainland. It was clear before their eyes: they had to escape this hell. Some ventured through the front gates and into the wild, where they were never seen again. Others had found a direct route and took it into discretion, while some simply snuck into a plane or boat and traveled to the area nearest to the Mainland. As the Mainland grew, so did its reputation with the rest of the world. Some saw it as a new ally, while others believed it was a dangerous enemy. Nonetheless, the RSF had turned a blind eye to it. But, Sanctuary had grown its defense, making sure no one was allowed to leave. That is, until the Sanctuary Uprising of 1941. Thousands of Mainlanders had, at first, quietly infiltrated Sanctuary and helped any remaining citizens leave. However, a rogue agent, named spaghetti_monster92, had tipped off the Sanctuary military, prompting a blockade at the intended escape route. Despite their best efforts, the OR knew they wouldn’t all make it out alive. But, a miracle came, where it was discovered that the caves near Sanctuary ran through a good chunk of the city, allowing for a lucky escape. In the end, the Mainlanders had escaped what could have been a great massacre. But, due to paranoia, the Mainlanders had set off to a new land, to escape any close ties with Sanctuary. Through treacherous terrain and long hauls, they arrived at their destination, a place known by all as Vietnam. In 1950, they were finally able to find themselves in hidden, remote city. But, despite all the technology they had, a small troop of the RSF discovered their own land. After much planning, in 1952, the RSF launched an attack after the OR in Vietnam, beginning the Vietnam War. With now a more advanced set of arsenals, the battles were more bloody, and more devastating than the Sanctuary Uprising. But, as the war raged on, the RSF were able to separate the Original Refugees and forced them to either surrender or flee. Those who surrendered were either forced into Sanctuary as “devoted citizens” or executed on the spot. But, those who fled changed or masked their identities and had blended into the modern society. With the help of many doctors, such as jessica03 and digbonger, as well as double RSF members, like Prettydisbith, they were mostly successful in their efforts. However, the end of the Vietnam War also marked the end of the Original Refugees, where their legacy will love in, inside our childhood dreams.
