There's a few clubs in Berlin that are overrun by tourists. Everyone seeking a true Berlin clubbing experience should avoid them. More Berlin nightlife advice: www.radical-living.net/berlin...
I don't agree on Tresor. They had quite a strict door policy when I went there in 2017 and had an amazing time. However, on the Matrix you are quite right.
It seems like you don't like having tourists in your clubs. I think most people watching this video won't be from Berlin, so would it not serve your purpose better to promote these clubs and funnel all the tourists into them?
"serve your purpose better " that just ain't what this city is all about. The word tourist is not really about not being from the city here, it's just about the people who have no idea where are they. You can be from berlin and still be seen as a tourist at the party scene when you wear that Prada shirt and a watch as big as BigBen. don't get me wrong I'm not supporting it, just saying it what is it from my pov. Many tourists are in the parties, they are having fun, cool tourists are fun they have stories, they are down for the adventure. People do take care of tourists, will invite them to their afterhours just if they can develop some kinda trust. This sic city is FULL of unwritten rulz that when you don't know what you don't know and insist on not understanding it kills the only comfortzone people have to spend their weekend before going back to the normal life. Too long it was sorry, wonder if anyone will read this far :D . Cheers
@@alirezakhalafi3376 okay sis calm down it’s a free city not a dictatorship .... u have no idea what u talking about. proliferating stereotypes and gatekeeping aint it. try again.
EXACTLY. Reject the people who seem like they just stumbled on a party and wanted in but FUCK a place that only wants "locals" I want nothing to do with that. When I travel I'm about meeting people and my city (Portland, Oregon) is NOT exclusive.
Check's auch nicht wie AboutBlank es in die Liste geschafft hat. Immer nur geil dort gewesen und viele werden auch nicht reingelassen... der Kolleg im Video redet Müll.
I went to watergate 3 weeks ago and it’s the typical crowd you find in any club anywhere. People spend more time starring st each other than enjoying the party. It sucked.
well watergate is after berghain the best club in berlin (especially the waterfloor)! no matter how many tourists is there. it is about the music. open your mind. we are at the end all tourists somewhere.
Matrix is sort of a running joke at this point. If a friend says they went to Matrix, it was for a laugh. ://About Blank is actually really cool, especially in the summer. And it has two dance floors so there's always something good.
Tresor ain't so bad, Watergate I agree with, suicide circus I was curious about but now I know nothing missed out by skipping it. I find club der visionnaire quite nice / cool
Us Berliners are, for some reason, quite snobbish about tourists in nightlife. Which is strange to me, because, well, they spend money here, and that's a good thing, isn't it? Sure, some are annoying, but so are lots of Berliners. On top of that, those that complain the loudest are usually the ones that only moved here a few years ago themselves. Also, there's so many expats here that you could hardly ever tell who is a tourist and who isn't. And playing the "no door policy" card is, quite frankly, ignorant of Berlin's clubbing history. It doesn't help anyway. Berghain still has one of the strictest doors in Berlin (frankly, well past it's heyday and hugely overrated), and lots of tourists get in as well. It'd worry me if the door policy was "Berliner or not", to be honest. I fully agree that Tresor is boring and Matrix is crap, although that's hardly a tourist problem.
jimboblivesforever That’s the thing, it’s not about the money, it’s about the community and the music, which makes it authentic. If the clubs are in it for the money they’re doing it wrong in the first place and will have a very basic, commercialised and diluted venue. Places like this tend to have VIP areas and overpriced bottles of Grey Goose with sparklers with pop music in the background...
Agree with ya, and I don't understand how someone could be proud of gorillas being judgy on your appearance and what they perceive from you to decide if you can't/can enter. In Argentina we avoid those places since they are clearly discriminating
totally agree, Berliners dont give a fuck as long as you are not some posh uber asshole type. folks who stay here for 2 years claim their Berlinhood like they are something fucking special. happened to me when standing at 6am rosenthaler platz with friends half drunk taking pictures, a lady passes by and yells - "kuck mal, ein touri". yeah, touri my ass. turns out she was from Brandenburg and just moved to Berlin.
@@MokojonI don't think being spanish is why you didn't get in at any club, I've seen quite a few spanish guest and resident DJs at almost all the clubs i go to. Living here for a few years, I usually have no trouble getting into most clubs (except Berghain) and in my experience its about how you dress and carry yourself. If you dress too flashy (exceptions for themed nights) or too casual (way too many people show up in street clothes), you're probably not getting in at any good club. More importantly, unless its a gay night or a gay club, don't show up as a total sausage party. Also don't show up as a massive group of 20 or something, most clubs will be already at capacity when you do and its up to the bouncer whether he lets some of you in, or no one at all.
Lolol I was with a few people I met at a hostel in Berlin, and they couldn't get into any of the hip hop clubs or suicide circus. I got in just fine though. So they were strict at the door. (Tip: don't wear flannel, and be cool) I think Watergate was that really cool outdoor club I went to with some Germans I met. We sat on the river and chilled just fine. The Matrix was trash though. Totally agree with you for the same reasons you mentioned. 100% difference from the other clubs.
As I am from the Bavaria and only have the oppotunity to go to illegal raves (and the extremly rare good Rave that is in an actual Club) i don't really understand what's so Bad about loose Door restrictions and what's so great about standing in line for a long time. I mean shouldnt everybody be welcome? The people that only Listen to Schlager and Charts wouldnt Go there anyways, would they? Someone from Berlin pls explain
Berghain for instance would be just a tourist hotspot at this point. Only a fraction of the people who want to get in even fit, so they select those who seem like they are there for the music and have a suitable attitude.
Watergate was cool in the beginning, they had some great acts and djs in the James Holden years. It changed though, expensive drinks and tourists. Matrix, hmmm....lets just say i remember the early Loveparde days and a giant gas canister outside while you waited in line, kept the whole line amused. :-) don't remember much else, other than that I never went there. Suicide was pretty ok the first year or two. So this is all awhile ago.
Dude, you really have no idea what you are talking about. Aboutblank is really not a touristy club. Only the main parties like Buttons or Staub are very touristy as they are very famous but the smaller, less-known parties are A) not that full and B) not really that touristy.
I confess that I have great difficulty in understanding how many people support these policies of entry into clubs that are totally arbitrary - and often even prejudiced - even more so in a city where most residents love to talk about "integration" and take a stand against any prejudice. I also can't understand your criteria in finding it bad that clubs simply let customers who are in the mood to enjoy the place just walk in and enjoy it. I mean, I wonder how arrogant a person can be to think they're good enough to be in a place and think it's bad that the establishment is open "to anyone".
Exclusivity is important if you're trying to cultivate a specific environment and vibe. If you're not willing to put the effort in to add a desirable flavour to the mix then go somewhere else where perhaps you are wanted.
You are talking about Techno clubs... Everyone should get the Chance to get in. This is what techno is all about, that erverybody and I mean erverybody can be who ever she/he wants to be. So you're the snobbiest Person and the last one who should get into those Clubs. Sorry man
Bigtownplayboy Honestly it’s not as simple as that, it’s a complex issue and there’s good points on both sides. Whilst “techno culture” is meant to be all-inclusive, it is also special to many people because it is also a community and the atmosphere on the dance floor matters a lot, which can cultivate a cliquey and pretentious mentality. If you bring in too many people who are not necessarily there for the music- but there because they heard they should do this while in Berlin or generally going for more touristic reasons, they can potentially ruin the atmosphere by having no club etiquette, as a result making it a less inclusive space for those already there. In other cities it’s probably a bit ridiculous to have such door policies but Berlin is a bit different because it’s often viewed as a tourist activity, as “techno culture” is ingrained to a greater degree within the overall cultural fabric of Berlin and can easily run the risk of being over-commercialised, compromising the community.
Everyone does get a chance. Only some get rejected and some get in but everyone gets a chance who ever goes to any club. So I dont know what are you talking about.
You forgot House of Weekend (most overpriced), Bricks, Soda, A7, Havana (least authentic 'Latino' music and only tourists), and 808 (unless you wanna hear 2015 generic rap).
Im going to Berlin in 2 weeks. Maybe I should just avoid the clubs.. either they suck in some way, or I have to wait in line for hours with the probable conclusion that I won't be let in anyway. Radical Living should suggest some nice German Bierstube where I can relax with my friends (joke). I want to experience Berlin at it's core, but that's just not possible for every tourist... depending on who they travel with offcourse. Big question stands. How to best experience Berlin nightlife without visiting popular clubs?
You will get the best experience if you actually go to a club with a lineup you actually enjoy and not for the sake of "getting into a techno club in Berlin".
i cant tell if this is comedy or sarcasm or serious but i found it hilarious i love tresor, chinese with a flashlight hahahahaa and watergate btw how can you not chill on that balcony
Why all the hating comments? He is talking about the clubs that are too touristy for Berliners. If you are not from there, but you wanna party like the locals do (that's why one goes to an other city after all), you should listen to him carefully. Of course, if you just wanna get wasted and pick up a whatever person (except for a local) at a whatever venue, it doesn't matter where you go, in Germany you can be inebriated 24/7. :D
im a foreigner but i wear techwear all the time to techno clubs in my country. Do u think im too cool for berlin? Do they accept me in berghain? Because ya all look like peasants if u aint wearing techwear to techno.
Long ago joining the army they ask what 3 places you want to be stationed I wrote " Germany , Germany ,Germany " and got Texas. But every soldier I met that was stationed in Germany comes back loving Techno. Maybe I got lucky. The country clubs in Texas are something Ill never forget.
You are so pretentious, except for Matrix and Suicide Circus, all the other clubs are really good, and you have many places to chill in the watergate (Outside Next to the water)
Suicide was actually cool back in the days (around 2010-14). Until they start kicking out all the regular customers and only let in tourists and closing at 6-7am. Because tourists spend more money and leave earlier then Berlin people. And I don’t know why you mentioned matrix here. Matrix is a disco and not a club. Nothing to do with the techno scene here. And for all tourists planning to go to Berlin: Go to Kater Blau oder Sisyphos for the best Berlin techno club experience. Don’t be a tosser and go to Berghain. It’s just a waste of time.
but you have said in other videos that Matrix is one of your favorite nightclubs. I would go wherever there is a techno party. I don’t like Matrix, they play too much mainstream. I don’t go to clubs to hear that or hip hop.
I don’t understand why you are essentially not allowed to be a tourist and go to a decent club. Why do I have to lie and say I live there in order to be accepted? It’s just ridiculous.
lol funny.. i lived in Berlin from 2016 to 2018.. in that time about time About:blank was quite hard to get in.... just remembered once i was with a gorrrrgeous friend from Brazil.. and she never had a acess denied to any place in her life, they ask her for the line up and she couldt answer... so they blocked us !! she cried so hard lol... that was a shit in Berlin a lot of times!! we ended the night at Wilden Renate!! very good place and party!
I'm also a tourist and the answer depends on what you are looking for and what are you interested in. Of course I'd feel bad when rejected just because I'm a foreigner, but at the same time I would probably understand the reasons why, and I'm more angry to the previous tourists who are the main culprits for strict door policies, than to locals who just want to preserve good things in their city.
matrix is a hole, I like about blank and tresor but for sure not my favourites. I just moved in-between Renata and about blank. best clubs in my opinion at sisyphos, Renata and chalet ( think chalet is closed now)
Thanks, its good stuff. I am from copenahgen, and just moved here half a year ago. Went only to watergate cause my landlord was playing... it was shit, so I ended up trolling tourists instead of having fun (bad karma). your channel helps me navigate a bit better, and become a better person :) thanks
I would go to suicide circus on a tuesday , and yea, they let anyone in; but still had so fun; mostly men... tresor might be the best option on this list; watergate I love thou
Why all Berlin "underground" places MUST be dirty, nasty and doomie spaces? Poor to ultra cheap architecture, no decor, nor theming? What's the point to pay am admission fee to get in my dog's shelter?
don’t complain you guys he is right just make some local friends and go to berghain with them you guy will all love it berghain is the best trust me they have many good and famous dj all the time
