This movie ended up bombing in theaters, but grew to have quite the following after release on video. The writer/director, Jonathan Lynn, had left his previous field of stage production to go and make the movie, but had trouble finding work in Hollywood for a few years after it was released. After being shot down by pretty much every director in Hollywood, Fox turned to him to direct one of their comedies as a last resort. That movie ended up being My Cousin Vinny, which went on to be a big hit.

Yeah, the film made back less than its budget. The execs thought they had a genius idea to have the movie play with random endings and people would go back to see it multiple times, so they would list "a" "b" and "c" with the theater listings depending on which ending it was. Instead, audiences stayed away as they felt they wouldn't get their money's worth if they had to go three times to catch the whole experience. Not to mention that the idea of a movie based on a board game in 1985 was a much tougher sell to audiences than decades to come. Thankfully, the film found an audience thanks to rentals on VHS, where the multiple endings were first combined.

The multiple endings also poke fun at the "whodunit" genre as a whole, as the ending in those shows are usually just slapped together from a bunch of scenarios that happened before, but really there was never enough evidence to know who really did it in the first place. Tim Curry is such a treasure. I was saddened when I heard he had a stroke a few years ago. I got the Audible version of Sabriel (Abhorsen, #1), read by Tim Curry. He did a VERY good job with those series of books until the stroke where someone else took over. I was hoping if they ever made a movie out of the Abhorsen series that Tim Curry could voice Mogget the moody magical cat.

Also, If you ever watch the show Psych (which I highly HIGHLY recommend), in a later season they have an episode called 100 Clues. Tim Curry had already played a differences character in an earlier season, so he didn’t return but, Leslie Warren (Mrs. Peacock), Martin Mull (Colonel Mustard) and, Christopher Lloyd (Professor Plum) are in it. Hey, Brandon! Kudos for reviewing this movie! It's definitely one of my favorites! I saw it in a theater and my multiplex in New York played all three options. You bought an A, B or C ticket which designated the auditorium the specific ending was featured in. I bought the VHS and then the DVD. I must have seen this film over thirty times! It never gets old. Tim Curry gives a tour-de-force performance as Wadsworth. The cast are all comedy greats in perfect sync with each other. It's a wonderful little gem. There's been talk of a remake but this is a lightning-in-a-bottle situation like "Ghostbusters" or "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World!" A different cast would change the dynamic completely. Another good comedic whodunnit is "Murder By Death" which features parodies of the great cinematic sleuths like Charlie Chan, Nick and Nora Charles, Sam Spade, Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple gathered together by real-life true-crime author Truman Capote. Trivia unrelated to the production: Lesley Ann-Warren and Susan Sarandon have been mistaken for each other so often in real life that the actresses agreed to sign autographs using their doppelganger's name if erroneously requested by fans!

So right at 16:48 you can see a picture of Colonel Mustard and the motorist in the war way before he reveals that he was his driver. And also Mr.Green did it. The object of the game is to find who killed Mr.Boddy where and with what. And as his line said "I did, in the hall with the revolver." So the rest of them just offed the people who informed on them.

I'm sure someone has mentioned this somewhere in all the other comments but... I remember when I was a kid and this movie was released in theaters. You would call around to the various theaters to hear what was playing and for this movie, they would say, "Playing on Screen #1 (or whatever # screen), Clue with ending A, or ending B, or ending C." Every theater had only 1 ending, so you would have to visit multiple theaters to be able to see all the endings. It was definitely a unique experience.
