#diy #miniature #terrain This tutorial shows a quick and easy way to make beautifully realistic clump foliage from a car washing sponge and a little bit of acrylic paint.
Perfect! Love your voice also. Also the last one you made would be amazing for the bottom of a unmoving lake bed. Like algae took over and made it vibrant green. I feel like I've seen it in the natural world and it does look unnatural. :)
It would be ideal for algae, especially set in resin with a small amount of tiny air bubbles clinging to it. The colour is unnaturally natural, oddly enough 😄
Think I would have keep the really dark one rather than throw it out it would suit a below water level tidal area like a dock and I'm definitely giving this a go thank you
It's a shame I already tossed it in the bin, it would have looked great in a watery setting...Silly me, I didn't think that far ahead lol. I hope you enjoy the process of making the clump foliage, the results can be surprisingly good and varied.
wow - cool idea. thx for this video. i love self-made stuff for dioramas because i build the most things out of trash or cheap materials if its possible. and this stuff you made allows you to take the colours you want. (i hope i choosed the right english words. my english is not good enough sometimes). have a nice day 🌅
I build everything from scrap materials and trash too, it's why I make these videos, so we can enjoy creating something from nothing! Your English is good, I understood exactly what you meant 😃
I also make my own clump foliage out of foam, acrylic paint (sometimes I use water soluble glycerin too) and my electric coffee grinder. I never use water when grinding as it makes too big of a mess. Cheers from eastern TN
Thanks so much, the idea of buying a blender for flocking wasnt making me a happy bunny so this was a welcome video as is your one for flowers. I think wire brushes have so many alternative uses that they would be my favourite too.
Lovely. I will still be using a blender, for speed, as I use tons of this stuff. I'm amazed at the difference adding more water makes. I had not found that out, myself. I usually try to remove as much water as possible, for faster drying. I shall definitely be altering my recipes, in all future batches
I can't remember why I started making it so watery, just one of those things you change over time as you go I suppose, but it sure does dry a LOT faster, which is nice. And I totally get the blender, I just use so little I don't need to, plus the first time I tried using a blender for this kind of thing I burned the motor out in it, so I don't have one.... 😅
Same! 😆Really, the motor is fine, but I overheated the rest of the blender. I've learned, and now I have a blender with a fully metal clutch assembly and drive shaft; no more melted parts... but I still often get smoke. Not good. Ah well 😅
@@CampaignTerrain LOL...That's brilliant! I love the idea of you making clump foliage whist smoke is billowing out of your suped up blender like a mad scientist. Thank you for that visual it put a smile on my face.😂
That's a fantastic idea! I'm unsure about speckling it with a darker paint would work as it may be incorrect for the depth of the "bushes" But a golden yellow would be amazing! It would look like dappled sunlight on tiny leaves! Thank you for that excellent thought, I'm going to test out different dark and light colours and see what happens.
Thank you for making this video. You presented the directions in a clear, concise, and approachable manner. I don't use this type of clump foliage often but I'm going to have to make some because lichens can be too leggy for that kind of growth.
No trouble at all! And thank you for requesting it, I've been wanting to get a clump foliage video out for a long while now and you gave me the little nudge I needed. 😀
I don't know if you would still be responding to comments at this late a date, but... First off, thank you for the clear instructions. I feel certain I can make this, you explained it so well. Second, I have a question. What type of glue would you recommend. I'm going to be using it on a tree. The exterior of the tree is painted air dry clay. I could see where maybe the sponge would not react well with certain glues?
I would suggest you use a spray adhesive and also, have a little look at the link I've dropped below for you on an earlier video of mine, it will show you how I get the clump foliage to sit up on the branches. I hope you find this helpful, please feel free to message me if you're in need of advice. 🙃 If you skip to 3 mins in you'll be where you need to be on the tree footage. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i5z_5bAlysg.html&ab_channel=DinkyDioramas
I use an electric coffee mill to turn the painted sponge almost to dust and the result is amazing to use it as grass or moss. Dont tell my dad though :P
I did it thank you very much!!! it worked great!! Except that in the morning when I get up it seems like marijuana to me from far and when I discover that it isn't I feel bad... thanks for the video, love from Italy
I lightly apply yellow paint to create light on the outer parts of the clump foliage which creates a textured look as the paint takes on the look of tiny leaves.
That sounds like it's going to be an incredible project, you're going to have a LOT of fun doing that. I bet having such a large area to work on would be pretty exciting and a great challenge too!
