60 years ago, the famous 1Z48 railtour set the record for the fastest run between Plymouth and Bristol in only 133 minutes to commemorate the anniversary of the unofficial 100 mph speed record by City of Truro.
60 years on, Vintage Trains would run a special two-day railtour to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the tour. The tour was pulled by Castle Class no.7029 "Clun Castle" making a long awaited return to Devon. Starting at Birmingham the trip ran to Bristol via Oxford before continuing towards Plymouth taking on the steep Devon Banks of Dainton and Rattery. On the second day the tour returned to Bristol, stalling on Hemerdon bank before catching up the delay on its way to Bristol. After a break in Bristol the Castle ran fast to London where a diesel took the train back to Birmingham.
We first catch 7029 as she heads west from Totnes on the start of her climb towards Rattery. The next day we catch "Clun Castle" running 20 minutes late along the seawall at Dawlish, heading towards Bristol, after stalling on Hemerdon bank.
Thanks For Watching.

That was close with the cross country. Shame about the stall, but still great seeing a Castle in Devon.
