Rest in peace to this man named Glen who had these rats. He was actually murdered a while later after this episode aired. At the episode's end, he was able to keep just one rat, the first one he had and was not apprehensive to any of the help that was given to him. He didn't deserve to be taken away from us in a horrible way.

The problem isn't that he's keeping rats, rats are great, it's that he's keeping so many. If these were hundreds of dogs or cats it would be just as problematic. These aren't wild rats, they're fancy rats, the kind you keep as pets. They're some of the cleanest pets you can have, they have a lot of the same body language and behaviors as cats, but they do require some maintenance. This guy is clearly not properly cleaning up after them and he's just throwing food all over his floor and allowing them to breed numbers that are unsustainable. Since they can be born in large numbers when they grow old and die in 2-4 years he's going to have a lot of them dying off around the same time.
In the full episode they actually start collecting the rats, breaking walls and stuff to catch them. They would catch them, check up on them outside and put them in a truck and send them off.(ofc sadly some passed away) Idk if they said it in this video but I think this was a way to cope with his wife passing, Seemed like he kept rats not to be alone.
I’m not afraid of Rats but I’m no fan of the damn pests either. Usually hoarders is about people hoarding clothes or Other items but RATS?!!!. That’s just pure insanity
It would have been MUUUCCCHHH worse if most of those rats weren't domestic rats. He could legit make a business out of selling those rats for either food(for reptiles and birds) or as pets.
