A rising force in the Chicago noise-rock scene since 2018, Djunah’s founding guitarist Donna
Diane plays her bare-bones, Kurt Ballou-designed GCI Craftsmen guitar, plus a Moog Minotaur as a bass synth, which she controls using her feet (!!), while singing her soaring, emotionally-charged vocals, alongside Jared Karns, who provides the rhythmic pulse on drums.
With three albums of songs already in the can, since the band began, the two-piece unleashed the mythical Moog Minotaur on the Video Room, shaking the foundations of CME’s Lincoln Avenue showroom with a sonic barrage of songs from their upcoming fourth LP, Femina Furens-available for preorder, here! Brilliant. If you are a musician / songwriter, you probably know how frustrating it can be to hear something in your head but not be able to put the parts together. Watching someone actually doing this is magical - she is like a living conduit of music. A friend invited me to her current tour kick off at the Empty Bottle. I couldn’t make it and I haven’t gotten over it yet. Next time for sure.

Uh oh! It’s not good when the “cowbell” comment is the top one. Points for trying, as I see the training wheels are still being used, but forget about pleasing the masses. That cowbell stuff is tired as hell. Just be original and you’ll find your own way. As the once very uptight Robert Fripp said, “Discard the superfluous.”
