CNC project part 1 of 2. This was the first time for me using a micro tapered ballnose end mill. I did not bother looking up cutting info until after this project. After looking i could probably get much better cycle times. it all boils down to how good of a finish you are looking for in the end. But step over and cutting direction are big factors. i did not use a tool path going both ways and kept it going the same direction which adds a lot of time.
what i did find out was for these cutters the depth of cut will factor into your feeds but if you are using a very small step over you can get away running much faster. i was actually going 3 times faster than the cutting data suggested. cutting depths can range from 1 to 3 times the tip diameter with a 30% reduction at 2 x the tip diameter for a cutting depth and a 50% reduction for 3 x the cutting depth.
