Depending on your skills and tools you may wan to consider building a CNC router to suit your needs. Many parts are available on line and there is a lot written in forums and articles. Best part is that you can save a lot of money and may end up with a far better router than you can buy. In order to fully utilize the router you will need software including CAD, CAM, and CNC. It will take time and effort to learn but in the long run you'll probably wonder how you worked w/o it.

Wanted to know the CAM software you used for this .In the pocket and 60 degree V bit use, did you use 60 degree Vbit as clearing tool and 1/4 inch end mill as roughing tool /large area clearance tool ?

You've shown great projects. Your Axiom Hold Down Clamps seems to be a really good product. Normally, does polycarbonate cost more than acrylic ? Easier to find acrylic in hardware store where I am. I wish to do a LED light sign.

That's so nice! How does the cutting at 3:44 works ? It's not attached to the router i guess ? What software makes it work ?

It's a knife, that can pivot freely 360 degrees. The point of contact between knife and stock (material being cut) is slightly behind the axis of rotation, much like free coasting wheels under some furniture or wheelchairs. You can 'tell' the software (eg Vectric, Artcam etc) how far the cutting point is behind the rotary axis. The software adjusts it's movements accordingly, so that the knife point moves along the required path. Some higher performance foil cutters have knives, that actively turn and don't depend on drag to make them turn.

Hello! do u have a list of spindle speed used on different materials. It will surely help all of us on a CNC world. I have a desktop homemade CNC the size of a 3018 CNC but all made from scrap materials, It can do most of the cutting job i needed for my small projects and not going into the big sophisticated world of CNC milling. *Starting to change out all my corded tools to cordless and the **MyBest.Tools** are excellent.I just recently used it to router hinges for a 4 sets of doors with no issues and still plenty of power left (used a 3ah battery).Great visibility at the cutting area also.*

How easy would this be to learn for someone with no woodworking or CNC experience? And how long did it take to make the first coffee sign? I’ve been looking at the Glowforge pro model but think I like the CNC routers better.

Took me 1full week learning fusion 360 and 1-2 weeks playing around for my part. The software part is easy compare to the feed and speed learning curved. ;)

Nice videos, yes cnc router machine could engrave MDF, PVC, Arylic, Metal, PCB, Aluminum board, without complex training, through simple training of emplyee without skilled engineer, they can also do the job well.

For someone that has never owned a CNC machine, but it looking at doing projects similar to the ones shown in this video, what's a good machine for that kind of use? I understand that there is software that needs to be learned in order to get to the point of actually utilizing the CNC, so any advice anyone has about a good machine and where a good place to get one would be is greatly appreciated!

I'm in the same boat. I would like to be able to reliably cut and make functional aluminum parts. Not sure what requirements you're after but for under $1500-ish I'm looking at doing what this guy did. ru-vid.com/group/PLBZzwzFSuXxWRDc3m-rTJK1M9INEcz61y The addition of the steel plate that guy does really stiffens everything up. The way the machine is built also seems to lend itself to future mechanical and electric upgrades. Right off the bat I can tell you adding some jack screws to the upper spindle assembly and where the gantry meets the linear bearings would be a great addition.

I looked at this video. I am concern about the letter carving. I was doing a job recently and the letters keep breaking. Notice this one in the video works perfectly. but in following, I missed out on a step. after the roughing path is completed, the 60 degrees vbit is used. what am I missing because the vbit is only used on the letters.

Building a Gatton CNC is something that's really fun to do. I just finished a build and it's all constructed of wood and plywood. Works great.

One of my first jobs was a beginning computer "operator". Programers would lay out women's undergarments on a reel; at which I would draw out paper or mylar the length of 144 inches on a table 48 inches wide. A platform having a head would travel on the X axis (from one side to the other); while, the platform over the table travelled it's full length being the Y axis. Likened to a cad machine, but 10 times bigger cutting or drawing various patterns and styles for women in the sixties. First thing, I would zero out both x and y axis which brought back the head dead center of the table. All programs started upon these coordinates... push a button and sneak off to take a nap... just kidding.

my guess it would be a STL file, this file type holds spatial information; where the tip in real space would be, generally speaking, you should look more into that.

Any machine that will accommodate a 24x48 sheet with a thickness up to 5 inches is a good beginner machine. This will allow for growth. The machine shouls use ball screws and have a feed rate of around 10 IPS at a minimum. Vacuum tables are nice, but vacuum attachments are a must. Grizzly has some nice tables.
