CNET How to: Add a second monitor to your computer

Go with 4. The only reason I use 8 is because I'm generally doing web design/video editing/coding so it's easy to have everything I need on it's own monitor + netflix on one. You'd be fine with 4 and I'm sure you'd love it

Hold the windows-key while pressing 'P' on your keyboard. You should get a little menu then where you can select "extend".

Everyone should have more than one. I added a second 4 years ago. Then I bought a second video card so I could add 2 more. Never looked back. I ran 4 monitors until Nvidia released the 600 series. Now I run 8 on a custom 4x4 mount. I'll never go back to using less.

i have a HDMI in my laptop and i couldn't find a HDMI/VGA (monitor), so i bought an HDMI/DVI instead, and it worked just fine :D Thank you

if you have a xbox one(360) or ps4(3) you can connect it with a hdmi cable aswel

I wasn't able to get my laptop to detect my 2nd monitor. So, I chose the option to extend the display. That did the trick.

THIS IS BASIC INFO PEOPLE Its says it in the beginning.

What if i dont have a laptop or monitor?

On your screen, control panel......monitors says display, personalization, power options. On my screen, control panel........monitors says power options, ease of access center, color management, windows mobility center. What should I do to get what you said to come up? Should I go to settings, then click display? But do I then click identify, or detect?

Does a 2nd monitor need it's own power? Or is it powered from the laptop it's plugged into?

This looks so easy and should be but I have an all in one computer and it won't seem to recognize the additional monitor. Can you help with that? I have an HDMI cable connected from the all in one to the additional monitor, I saw in the command center where it said to add multiple monitors but the new one isn't being recognized.
