cnet.co/YTTgzS Is the BMW 750Li or Lexus LS460 F Sport the ultimate big CNET sedan? You're obsessing on the wrong thing in your engine, and Top 5 ways "The Man" is deciding what technology is in your car.
I had the 2013 BMW 750Li. The engine self destructed in 2016 while still under the manufacturers warranty, a job that would’ve cost me over $40,000; thank God it was still under warranty. Turns out those V8 twin turbo engines were known to have issues. Also, the battery would consistently drain because there’s no alternator to charge the battery, instead they have a battery regenerative braking system that’s proven ineffective, therefore owners are charged for new batteries often. I drove the car until the warranty ran out, then I sold it. Now I happily daily drive a 2014 Lexus ES 300H.
The problem with most auto reviews is that they test brand new cars. Nice but most new cars don't stay that way and the way to tell how a car really is, is after 40 or 50 thousand miles on them. At that point there is no comparison. Bmw's, Benz's, Jags will all be in the shop with various problems and headaches. The Lexus's never break and will still be rolling strong. I mean they never break. Take them in for their scheduled maintenence, and you will get over 150 to 200 thousand miles easy. They are rocks. I'll take the Lexus please. Not even a comparison.
Dear Ryan. No. Not all japanese cars can do that anymore. A good bunch of them maybe, but I know exceptions, even for Japan. Don't forget that Japan isn't making all their cars into Japan, and sometimes, some joint-ventures wheren't that great.
***** The Comments we're fine until you insulted someone because of you're insecurities. I will tell you this > You have no idea what someone has drove or owned so just that comment alone tells me about you're level of intelligence. Why don't you post a video of you're 2 BMW'S you claim you have and link it in the response. i bet you are full of crap or you drive one of those 3000 dollar Craigslist BMW's
I'll take the Lexus for longevity, reliability and durability. I don't want drama. Now if you're the type of person that likes visit the dealership every couple months go with BMW.
Lexus is still the best while BMW's compelexities makes you pay a fortune at the end of your warranty service. And Brian Cooley in the coolest guy in the car review industry, no doubt about that.
I have own several flagship luxury sedan ,and let me say that BMW cant make a car that will last ....its made to be broken , cheap ass plastic ....headliner falling down, a pillar comming apart . Door will start rattling ...if you close the door on these two car youll see that Bmw dont built their cars like they did...lexus over Bmw anyday !!
No matter what BMW can't make a car that is right ...if it last like these that one that they came out with ...garbage ...amazing how you can get a 02 745 for 4600 and 02 ls430 still around 8 to 9 grand
Many people seem to forget that the original Lexus LS made Mercedes and BMW go back to the drawing board, the LS was the true epitome of luxury and although they slipped in recent years they are still true players in game and a taking a different approach to getting back on too of the luxury car segment .
***** That's simple, rich white people. When people think about lexus, they just think about a boring toyota. Simple minded people. You're probably one of them too.
Sung Lee no no, I'm pretty sure he was specifically talking about Lexus models and not Toyota. BMW does sell more than Lexus because BMW is the main flagship while Lexus is a branch off of Toyota. So in this case, Toyota does outsell BMW and makes way more profit. But BMW does outsell Toyota's branch company.
I see a lot of professionals including sergeons and lawyers driving lexus and I would not call them "simple minded" I am sure they are more complex minded than you are.
I can't not comment on how much I appreciate Cooley's talent. The real Top Gear USA. And to me that's an understatement. I'd rather watch this than Top Gear.
Hyundai doesn't have the cachet or quality reputation of Lexus. Lexus has enough cachet to play in the same club as BMW, but it is much more reliable and sensible. Regardless of what you think, no one would be ashamed to say they own a Lexus or an LS460, it still carries an image of wealth and success but without the baggage and excessive cost of German cars.
True Lexus is all that and after all these years with a beautiful reputation of being reliable, luxurious and technologically advanced, I guess its badge now can compete with all the Germans', so it's a show off too ;)
Lexus because its cheaper more reliable and more exciting to look at. Imagine them both in your garage the lexus will be driven more and looked at more. Because you know it won't leave you stranded and the look is to date not out dated. Plus resale value is double of that beemer. Two vehicle leaves the dealer at 100k and 80k at the end of five years before upgrade the lexus is worth more on value. So honestly lexus is the better buy consider they are both so equal. Plus forget the turbos its horrid reliability.
BMW is subtle. When you see a 7 series you know the guy that owns it has money, but he isnt being rude or loud about it. they dont want to be loud and obnoxious, for that you have the typical Japanese over styling of the Lexus. People cant help but stare at its ostentatious appearance. If style can be solved in a mathematical equation, Japan would have stylish cars... Until then, they will continue to make obnoxious cars with bumps and grills, fins and holes all without flowing lines. If you buy any car worrying about depreciation, you can't afford it! My bmw has never left me stranded, and I abuse it like a ginger step child!
Seeing a bmw makes you think he has money? First of all thats a kids thought because if you didn't know the guy in the lexus has more money. The lexus is a better value vehicle and holds its value better. Second if they were bought new the owners are equally rich, but if they were bought used the guy in the lexus has more money because it is worth more than the beemer after the first year of ownership. The style is on what you like and for one I think lexus is superior in style. Toyota is the richest car company in the world than vw. So before you talk know how, do your know how research because toyota is the only company in the game that has money like oil company. Lexus is toyota and some how I don't think bmw can answer the lexus lfa. When bmw make a vehicle in the lfa standard come back and talk to me before that the only beemer I know that I put money on is the m3.
If you see A 7 series you know they cost 100k+, so he obviously has money... No one buys a 100k car because its a good value. a civic is good value and is really all the car anyone really *needs*. I'm not talking about used cars, that an entirely different market. You're a Toyota fan boy, I get that. Toyota got their money from selling cheap cars like the corolla, or from their other brands like Daihatsu and hino. not luxury cars. They do more besides build cars that's added to their revenue. Being a rich car company is about sales/profit not how well something is built. GM can show you that as it is actually number 2, not vw. Who was talking about used cars? A used 7 series has a shitty resale because the kind of people who would typically drive a 7 series can easily afford a new one, and will buy a new one. not because they are bad cars. If you are going to be seen in a 100k dollar car you dont want it to be 10 years old, its like wearing out of date clothes because they were expensive/nice when they were new. Again, its a style/class thing. You can go to school, but you cant buy class
First of all your comeback on why the 7 series is worth shit is pretty funny because the vehicles not worth nothing because people who buy them will by another wrong. They are worth nothing because they are un reliable and highly high maintenance plus a use bmw has no more standard to a used civic. Get my point? Buy class? First of all you can buy class is Bentley Continental to RR Phantom or Mercedes maybach. Higher class that you cannot buy is more like lexus lfa 500 only available is class you cannot buy. Than here we are again in the 7 vs the ls and I think my point chews beemers everything the beemer can do cannot do on daily basis as everything the lexus can do could do on everyday basis. Lexus is more comfortable better for everyday as the bmw you will meet the shop every 20 thousand miles. If you don't your the one lucky guy of the batch and that doesn't make you special or reliable its just the lucky one of the batch.
Car dealerships should offer people a $20 test drive of their cars ($100 for luxury cars) because unless you actually go to a car show you have no way of getting to know these cars without watching RU-vid.
If you want worlds best engineering ...Lexus wins all the time ! old BMWs don't last, old Lexus go forever . Now BMW are using tiny undersized engines with turbos strapped all over them they will fail even faster ! you cant beat big engines .Don't even start on their idrive nightmare . Lexus simplicity wins again
Torque and power section is not covered well enough. By watching it you cannot answer question why 300 lb-ft diesel does 0-60 in same time as 200lb-ft gasoline. Major information about gearing is missing...
He is right, majority that buyers of those cars are people that makes $250,000 trough $300,000 a year cause they are the majority of the upper class. They can afford luxury items but they are more aware and conscious where they spend their money.
I definitely prefer the Asian luxury cars over the Germans'. If I had to buy a European car, I'd buy a Volvo or an Alfa Romeo. Not because I'm racist, just because they don't have my personal taste in design.
im biased for the lex. in my own preference im a lex guy so all in all i think the lex is a better deal, well the price is also a big thing too LOL but i do like the infotainment system in the back of the beemer. thats sick.
So if I would hypothesize that mentioning the horsepower is totally irrelevant, instead mention only the torque, would that be correct? Or is it still necessary to mention the HP as well for some reason?
You missed my point. A $100,000 car is an ultra-luxury item. You could purchase a perfectly adequate sedan for half the price. If you're willing to spend $50,000 more to buy a 7-Series, LS, S-Class, A8, etc...then you probably have the disposable income to do so.
You're using the wrong reference point. In fact, you're not using a static reference point at all. 18k is insignificant when your reference point is the LS's MSRP, but if you add another 18k, you are no longer just referring to 18k, but rather 32k on top of the LS's MSRP.
i am driving a bmw 335i convertible right now. the really down side of bmw is the interior design and the material used is not that great compare to lexus. i think i might wanna get a lexus next time.
Would buy LS and pocket the $18k. The LS will probably be worth more when time comes to sell and cost less to own in the long run. All that saved money can buy lots of luxury elsewhere to complement the car.
Lexus wasn't designed primarily for the American interstate. It's designed for Japan's so-called autobahn and road system in which both are very similar to Germany and the EU in general. The difference is the Japanese prefer their luxury cars to be quite conservative but posh. Most Japanese execs are chauffeured so Toyota probably put a lot of effort in the backseat. Regardless, the BMW and the Lexus are both exceptional but they're also two completely different in automotive character.
hi cooley (torque*rpm)\5252=horsepower so car produces torque and rpms. the ferrari 458 is not powerful car compare to likes of mclaren mp4 but it outdoes mclaren because it has close to 9000 rpms long and also a great transmission box other than that you were on the point with everything else
Wow, that Lexus looks WAY better than the BMW, and it's that much cheaper? I'd take it any day over the 7, especially considering Lexus is the most reliable car brand in the world.
...and the impeccable reliability ratings go to Toyota/Lexus according to JD Pwr, CR, KBB, etc. BMW still scoring below average on many of their newer line-ups. The electronics must be a nightmare...
Yes, there are wealthy people who are careful with their money, and those people do not buy $100,000 vehicles when a $50,000 vehicle will do just fine (Warren Buffett, for example). I'm referring to the wealthy people who spend $200,000 on a Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG when they could buy a regular S-Class for $100,000 less.
