Like us on Facebook! www.facebook.c... Back at the head end of the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway's Santa Trains for another year on her own is ex-Central Railroad of New Jersey #113, an ALCO-built 0-6-0 restored by the many volunteers of the Project 113 group. For December 4th and 18th, the massive anthracite-burning switcher saw high speed running yet again, reaching speeds of up to 30mph, of which many engines of this wheel arrangement in the United States do not see often at all. One could imagine, just for a brief moment, that this engine could pull the Queen of the Valley trains that the CNJ ran during its prime with a display like this. Now please enjoy this video brought to you by Blue Comet Productions!
This video was filmed on December 4th and 18th, 2016.
A very special thanks goes out to all of the volunteers of Project 113, as well as the crews of the engine and the passengers who came out to support the nonprofit group!

That's the fastest I've ever seen a big, top-heavy 0-6-0 move! Looks like a wild ride.

I think 113 looks better with a round numberplate that a square number plate. The square one is fine but the one 113 had in this video I like better in my opinion

This is a fantastic video, thank you for posting this. The scene beginning at 5:53 is probably one of the most unique shots of a steam locomotive I've ever seen, with the headlight and markers shining through the trees and reflecting off of the snow. It's really beautiful and perfectly captures the feel of a winter evening right around the Holidays. Great job.

awesome editing, like u have a bunch of cams lined up down the line and the feed switching to each one progressivly. wanted to say, its so funny how exagerated the side to side movement is on these engines at speed due to the lack of pilot and trailin trucks.

when firing the engine there are few locations along the line we will not fire and just hold on!!!!

Amazing, really! Definitely the best video of the 113 out there to date. That shot at Westwood Jct always gets me, and the arriving sequences to Minersville are something else. Do I get a gift card or something for spotting Oren on his ladder?

Damn. That thing is a switcher but has the power and speed of a Mikado. Maybe it’s because of that diesel in the back but still..30mph!!

I think I'd be afraid to go that fast with as much lateral motion as it has.

Quite a bit of vertical slop on the F. crosshead to be careening down the track close to 30mph...
@tylerfenderson2500
@tylerfenderson2500 7 лет назад
it does have slop. we had it shimmed up for a bit. but not a whole lot can be done without a shop. hoping to correct all issues with both main rods, all brass's on rods and baker unit, and reprofiling of tires -113 crew

Why is she riding so rough?
@thereadingg3945
@thereadingg3945 7 лет назад
0-6-0s weren't really intended to go that fast. Because she has no pony and/or trailing wheels, this causes all the force to go to the six drivers, resulting in the rocking motion you see here. It is normal to see any steam locomotive rock a little bit at speed, but again, 0-6-0s weren't designed for high speed.

Fun fact: #113's class is actually the most powerful 0-6-0!

I was on the last train of the 18th. That would have been our train blowing by the Schuylkill Haven platform at the 3:51 mark. I remember the guy on the ladder and thinking it was odd. There was snow on the ground and it was pretty overcast and foggy. You can see how dark it was by the time we got back to Minersville. Thanks for posting!

It always amazes me how much that 0-6-0 can handle, both in train weight and speed.
