IKR? I love it! 😂 Some women just can't help themselves chasin' rabbits. Blah blah blah!!! And she has the AUDACITY TO ASK Whoopie, when she was called out for straying from topic, "what was the question?" 😵💫 Just a typical blabbermouth. Shameless! 😏
I've never listened to Beyonce so I don't know how many people are in her audience . I have listened to Swifts early music so I guess is depends on the audience and the following of both their music . What I do believe is if the music is enjoyable to more people than just a small percentage then the more likely the artist is to win .
I think Sonny was wrong. It’s not about race. Sure Beyoncé might’ve had a Renaissance this summer making people wear silver but I can’t mean one of her songs. But Taylor Swift had smash hits this summer. I’ve been listening to Beyoncé for decades, but I can’t name one song that she’s come out with in the past year. I’m sorry, but her music takes a backseat to Taylor Swift right now.@@terryfrit3749
@@terryfrit3749They’ll talk about Beyonce all year, from TikTok videos to instagram everything, showing her Renaissance Tour on everybody’s cameras world wide! So what’s wrong with this picture let’s be real! She gets a wide range of all race and than some she should have been in the category! They didn’t put her in it because you have grown ignorant people behind the scenes who want to break a record and make history! They got to do better!
@@jablackdiamond So B not getting Album of the Year is a black issue? This is where I get so frustrated. There are so many much more important and clear racial topics to discuss. I wish we could elevate all the discussions. It’s always the same old tired thing. Most likely it’s politics, money, connections, etc. I’m sure there’s a ton of systemic racism built into the Grammy’s like everywhere else but not sure this is one. Maybe Ana was tired of the B v TS, white v black topic that never goes anywhere. I know I am
@@tanja0411 there was literally an article that came out last year that interviewed grammy voters. They said they didnt vote for B because "she wins too much" yet the same doesnt apply to Taylor Swift whos won album of the year 4x, for mediocre albums at that but sure its not about race.
@@courtney2262 So they give her 32 Grammys because she’s too much? Beyoncé is too much but Lauryn Hill isn’t? I honestly don’t get it but I sure don’t feel sorry for B. I feel sorry for all the talented artists of every race and color who lose to the more popular celebrity. I personally also don’t get why Taylor Swift keeps winning album of the year. If there’s evidence it’s because she’s white and Beyoncé isn’t then I apologize. I’m not saying race is isn’t an issue. To me I’m just not sure race is the root cause of this one. I wonder if B made someone powerful mad. Anyway that’s how I feel and again if race is going to be discussed I’d rather have it done more thoughtfully and with more time and different POVs. Whoopi and Sunny don’t agree either. Ana is also a POC and she doesn’t always agree. Sara has wise takes a lot and will bring facts to the table with clear evidence of racism. That’s what I want to see. Also I personally am sick of the TS v B discussions. I think they’re ignorant and do nothing to move anything forward. The women should be celebrated and literally nothing else. I want to hear about other people’s struggles. Real life struggles.
@@Namboy124 Did u listen to his speech at all??... He gave examples of exactly what he's speaking to, he didn't say anything about THAT particular night persay Beyonce wasn't even nominated ths year. He talked about Jazzy Jeff and the fresh prince which was over 2 decades ago, which is speaking to the HISTORY of the grammys!
There’s been more black artists win album of the year than any other race! Dear god what more does he fucking want?! Stevie wonder, Lauryn hill, Whitney Houston, Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson, Quincy jones, Bernie Hancock, John batiste, Ray Charles, outkast
@davematt2002 but did he lie, tho? People get rewarded, elevated, etc, who didn't deserve all the time. However, that's a part of life. That's not him being bitter. That's honesty (truth), the truth is of great importance in order for us to. maintain balance in the midst of chaos and uncertainty.
I am sad that the table missed the point. That last black woman to win album of the year was in 1999, Lauryn Hill. Sza was nominated this year for a masterpiece. Beyonce actually changed music with her self-titled surprise album and even Adele was upset when she won album of the year over Lemonade. You are telling me that NO black woman has made an album of the year in 25 years? Not Beyonce? Not Sza? Not Lizzo? Rihanna? Alicia Keys? It is a glaring problem at this point.
YES. Also there was a article that came out last year that interviewed grammy voters. They literally said they didnt vote for Beyonce because and I quote "She wins too much". So even if she deserved it they snubbed her. Yet that rule doesnt apply to Taylor Swift whos won album of the year 4x now.
I did enjoy this year’s Grammys more than years past in recent memory. Fave moments were seeing the legends- Mariah, Tracy, Celine..the performances were also great
Thoughts on Michael Jackson having historic 5 number ones for BAD, but not winning a single Grammy Award in the year 1988? if that isn't unfair. and songs like "man in the mirror" are timeless pieces of music. and by the way Joni Mitchel left a deep impression on me with her grammy performace. wow.
you just pointed out the fact that....get ready....GRAMMYS don't really mean s**t. sure, it can do great things for those who got em and NEED them. but, for some others...regular fans/listeners...and TIME that matter and will tell which of the songs, albums actually great..impactful and long lasting. especially, for those huge iconic super stars, like MJ..and Beyonce...would be good for their egos, sure.... but, really...do they really matter to them, career wise? and b'sides, Michael already got ALL the grammys with his Thriller album. Bad, despite the 5 number 1 hits...wasn't that good an album. and I'm saying that as a Michael Jackson fan. the same thing with the Oscars.
5 #1s for BAD are on Billboard charts. Voting members of the Grammy's criteria aren't based on charts and sales. That is the American Music Awards. The general public is unaware of the criteria. Also, most people live in a vacuum and have never fully listened (intentionally as a voter and not a fan) to every nominated artist in the category.
Thank you Whoopie for bring her back to the topic!!! I was so confused because she was just going on and on without any mention of Jay-z speech. I was surprised a producer didn't yell in the earset your time was up!
I can't believe The View is praising a Kanye moment where Jay-z pitted two women against each other and crapped on Taylor's historic achievement. Beyonce has the most grammys, more than any other artist. Shame on Jayz to do that in front of his daughter.
@@franswaweaver7394that’s completely missing the point though. Her RnB Grammys feel like consolation prizes like „yeah you did great, but now let’s talk about the real winners“. Black artists get denied a seat at the main table for way too long and way too often. I get that he could have worded it more broadly, not singling out his wife, but the point stands.
I think he meant in general, it was this year he could speak on it. He wasn’t taking away from Taylor because she deserve it. Think back to the Lemonade album when she should have definitely got it, Adele album was 2 years old and still won in 2017. Even Adele felt Beyoncé was robbed that night and she was the winner.
So many wonderful comments here. ❤ I want to remind people that Mariah Carey has received 34 Grammy nominations and won JUST 5. She was up for album of the year three times! She, Whitney, and Celine are the greatest female vocalists of the past 40 years, but Mariah writes AND produces her music, unlike those stars and most others. She’s already been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (only 7% of inductees have been women, BTW). She’s had 19 #1 singles. Only the Beatles have more (20). Yet she’s won 5 Grammys. It’s ridiculous. So, I get a little irked when people talk about Beyoncé being snubbed for album of the year when she has 32 Grammys. Joni Mitchell never performed at the Grammy awards until now at the age of 80! There are a lot of strange oversights, shall we say. Oh, and why hasn’t Pink won more? Or MJ in 1988? I think Beyoncé has been more than justly rewarded.
Janet Jackson her masterpiece, iconic, revolutionary albums - that have directly impacted Beyonce's work - have never gotten enough attention. Rhythm Nation not nominated for Album of the Year
@@imalwaysrightAMEN to all this! Janet’s albums are masterpieces! Beyoncé, Rihanna, Ciara, and more all live in the house Janet built. Some famous music critic said that. I’m stealing it. : /
As a voting member of the Grammys for 16 years, I can tell you that there are literally thousands of entries in the first round of voting. Then it gets narrowed down in the 2nd. Every category has more names of artists you've never heard of than those who are famous. The voting process itself is antiquated and clunky, even online. And before that, you had to go into an office and listen in a booth. RU-vid was a voter's best friend. And heaven forbid if you were an artist with no online presence. Now it's a requirement. And since the management shakeup a few years ago, they're now more elitist which means in the music categories you need to tour, have management, etc. As a result, the voter population has shrunk because not every voter was operating at that level. People who think the general public is driving it don't understand the process. Voters might be voting for their friends, but in general, they don't make it easy to 'discover' new talent. So you sometimes just pick what you know.
Sunny Hostin "your the only one at this table that has a grammy" Alyssa Farah Griffin "and will remain the only one" Sara Haines "any year now I'm going to make my break" 😂😂😂😂
I always found that Sunny Hostin comes off EXTREMELY arrogant. I don't know if that is the "Lawyer" in her or just her personality. She even told off Alyssa not too long ago how she doesn't know anything because she claims "I have more experience than you". Well .. I am around the same age as Sunny.. and I *always HATED THAT* saying that older adults saying that to me. You DON'T KNOW my experiences .. everyone has THEIR OWN experience. And just because I'm younger, you're NOT BETTER than me.
I think the point he was trying to make is that progress has happened but some things still need to change My favorite part of the speech that no one is talking about is to KEEP GOING no matter if you get recognized for it or not
Sunny is a racist, a Taylor hater, and I honestly can’t stand her, she loves Beyoncé because she’s black, and hates Taylor Swift because she’s white. She truly is a racist, but ig she get’s a pass because she’s black and being demeaning, misogynistic, and racist to a white woman
It was completely classless and pathetic. And in fact, it did nothing but degrade her and her work. Now, when/if she does win that award, seems like she'd wonder if it was about pressure/PR or how much they actually valued her album. Again, it takes away from her. That's all it did. Also, it's just one of their awards (and she's already been awarded many). Ultimately the importance of which is way (way) overblown (and he just punctuated that). What is the effect of her not getting that award? Will it prevent her from making zillions more dollars? Will it have others looking at her in a less admiring way? ... It's stupid.
I don't know about y'all... But what Beyonce's hubby did onstage reminded me of Kayne West doing the SAME thing. Minus of course INTERUPTING Taylor's acceptance speech.
If you haven’t taken the time to listen to everyone’s body of work in their respective categories, you can’t honestly say who is more deserving to win. I dont listen to Taylor Swift but she has a major fanbase so her impact is undeniable. Same goes for Beyonce.
Thank you. Now this is an elevated comment and I’m grateful for it. The discussions are so tired. At the end of the day, it’s the celebrity and money that wins. And everyone always weighing in with completely non-knowledge based opinions. I don’t weigh in unless I am pretty well versed in the topic. I’m more of a Beyoncé fan but can acknowledge TS is immensely talented and I do like a lot of her lesser known songs. I get aggravated by the people who don’t listen to her music putting her down. Just a little research would tell you that experts in the field agree about her level of talent. And B is an iconic entertainer. When will people stop dividing? And just be more thoughtful. Plus there’s so much more important things to be worried or mad about.
Sorry one more thing 😅 I thought it was hilarious when Ye admitted he hadn’t listened to (I think it was) Beck’s album and when he did he thought it was actually really good. And then he apologized to Beck for saying he shouldn’t have won. That is the Kanye I love and remember. And completely reinforces your comment I think :)
@@tanja0411 All valid points. I grew up in the 80s so there were limited channels to access music. Subsequently, we were all forced to listen to different genres of music. Nowadays we are all in our own bubbles so of course we think our favorites are the most deserving.
Beyoncé doesn’t write her songs, TAYLOR DOES. Jay Z where was all this love and support when YOU cheated and humiliated your wife? Why is this child, Blue do made up like she’s an adult? Beyoncé is a great performer. Taylor is a true artist. Be grateful Beyoncé won any Grammys. 😂🤷🏾♀️🤔
Beyonce cannot win EVERY single award. She wins every other grammy. Rennessaince didnt translate to radio in a large portion of the country. Some people connected with it, but not everyone.
So keep that same beefy with the Me Too movement. Should money comfort those women who have been mistreated? Either you advocate for equity or you don’t.

Fell on deaf ears with me. She has 32 freaking Grammys. Not one, not two, 32. He could have taken the time to promote his non profit but instead he went up and complained that his wife never won album of the year. #billionaireproblem
Ana’s snarky remark to Alyssa made me smile. The Grammy’s had a decades old history of snubs, seemingly ‘inappropriate’ winners and overlong broadcasts. Their ‘spoken word’ award type categories, for which Whoopi won are my favorite category
Saying that Beyonce should have won is a PROBLEM! Understand that when you do that, you are then saying that the person who DID win didn't deserve it. The category covers all genres that voted. So are you saying that Taylor Swift (2010), Adele (2017), Beck (2015), & Harry Styles (2023) shouldn't have won their awards for album of the year?!
Adele herself said she shouldn't have won when Beyonce's lemonade was nominated. So yes. Her albums were more deserving as albums, as stories, as a full body of work, as novel music/sounds/ideas at least two times.
@@achocot That's not how it works in REALITY! Everyone views music differently. Besides, you don't win based on your body of work. That's a lifetime achievement award. 🙄 Adele isn't all of the voting community & is a fan. She swept all of the award shows for that album & performed everywhere. You could have put money on it. More people listened to & voted for Adele’s album. Just like when Taylor & Beck won. Bc it’s Beyonce doesn't mean everyone thought it deserved to win or it should have won. The voters thought Adele deserved album of the year. It would have been an upset if she lost. You couldn't go anywhere with where without hearing ‘Hello’ & most of her other singles from ‘25’.
oh please the level of entitlement is Kanye level crazy.......brings up his daughter mentions she has a grammy so cringey A LOT OF incredible great ARTISTS HAVE NOT WON GRAMMYS news flash not jay z and Beyonce who has won 32 Grammys omg she didn't win a specific award.....oh please .
Talking about album of the year and Beyonce let remind something from the past. Janet s Jackson "Rhythm nation 1814" it was the best selling album of the year with 7 singles from the ambum in top 5 on 100 billboard chart. The album wins critical aclaim from all the press back then , the impact was huge , but dosen t won album of the year. Just a reminder._
Jay Z only complaining because his wife - who owes her career to the likes of Janet - didn’t win. So many legends have been snubbed, Janet countless times.
@@imalwaysrightexactly!! So many phenomenal black artists have been snubbed but he's only mad about his wife who has 30 some. Everyone is treating him like a hero, and he's just being greedy.
@@yvonne8786 the way Bey machine operates turns people off. Her homage to her influences can sometimes be performative. She owes so much to the people that came before her, but they - including her husband - want her treated her like a God and called the best artist and entertainer of all time. So much of her career is due to the likes of Janet, Tina Turner, Diana etc. Her albums, tours, performances would not be what they are without them. And so much of what Beyonce does is -stolen- borrowed from elsewhere, without proper credit - videos, dances, songs, themes, visuals. She is great at what she does, but it's not as original as others, like those that win album of the year (like a Beck, Adele, Harry Styles, Outkast, Lauryn Hill). People appreciate artistry and original songwriting, production and musicianship. Beyonce hires a camp of writers and producers to make songs for her. It's very different.
I'm glad Jay-Z said what he said. His words were even bigger than Beyonce. So many deserving musicians/performers have constantly been overlooked, even when they met the Academy's standards. Like he said, the math isn't matching.
Just like so many artists got overlooked when they randomly gave their daughter a grammy who hasn't done any actual artistic work.... why didn't they respectfully decline that in the name of other artists that work hard for it and can barely have one, hypocrisy much? They are not speaking for other artists at all, they are simply speaking for themselves, as soon as they get what they want, they will be having champagne on a private yacht with the executives of the grammy enjoying the entitled life!
Ok SO HERES MY OPINIONS THE GRAMMYS HAS GIVEN 32 OR 38 GRAMMYS OK!! THAT'S MORE THAN ANY OTHER ARTIST EVER SHE'S BEAT OUT THE GREATS AS FAR AS GRAMMYS: WHITNEY HOUSTON, ARETHA FRANKLIN, DIONNE WARRICK, MARIAH CAREY, MARY J BLIGE, PATTIE LABELLE, GLADYS KNIGHT. ETC HOW DOES SHE FEEL LIKE SHES MORE DESRVING THAN THESE GREATS!!!
This silent competition been going on back when Kanye embarrassed Taylor. I find it quite interesting that their music is so different and people put them against each other.
I will say this, if Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston were still here, they would be getting awards. Unfortunately, people are creating albums that only 1-2 songs are a hit… That can’t compare to Taylor Swift where almost 90% of her albums are on the top charts. This isn’t about color… and I feel he made it about color. This is about, the popular vote I’m so tired of it always having to be the suppression of the black population. Taylor’s album hit number one longer than Beyoncé’s album. This isn’t about being biased. People can actually see the fucking numbers. What are we need to be giving awards to everyone now? Is everyone’s feelings going to be hurt? People can do the math and see that midnight outdid the Renaissance in the number of streams.
Im sorry but Beyonce won the Best Dance/Electronic Album Award in 2023 for Renaissance. That category is never aired during the ceremony but for some reason it was shown during the ceremony in 2023 and she won. What is he complaining about? Imagine having the most Grammys and still complaining. sad its really distasteful .
You win album of the year for the entirety of the ALBUM - winning Grammy's for certain parts/songs of an album is something entirely different - you don't win album of they year based on how many Grammy's you win. It's not rocket science. To me, this was almost Kanye part deux. Not to mention the fact Jay Z said some artist should not be nominated. If that's how he feels than the same could apply to the Grammy (academy) not feeling Beyonce deserved album of the year. It's an opinion - especially if there was heavy competition. It boils down to sour grapes.
C'mon! Stevie Wonder won Album of the Year in 1974, 75 and 77. Michael Jackson won it in 1984 and Lionel Richie in 1985. Quincy Jones won in 1991 and Natalie Cole's "Unforgettable" won in 1993. Whitney Houston's "Bodyguard" soundtrack in 1994 and Lauren Hill's stupendous solo album win in 1999. Also Outkast and Herbie Hancock in the 2000s, and Jon Batiste in 2022.
you have to reach 30 years back and these artists faced their fare share of racism from the academy michael never won another music grammy because they felt he won too much. stevie had to change music as a whole to get his whitney had to have a hit movie as well as a song. it took outkast their farewell album to win theirs. Black artists have to make history to receive things white artists get for being mediocre.
Jay z did it so respectfully and he said what! Go Jay Z. Loved how Sunny only wanted to hear Whoopi's point of view. Sunny to Whoopi " Your the only one at this table who has a Grammy"😁❤️.
it’s so funny that they somehow turned this into Beyonce vs Taylor Swift when Beyonce lost Beyonce, Lemonade and Renaissance to Beck, Adele and Harry Styles if anything, Lady Gaga should have won for The Fame over Fearless, but of course Sunny had to turn this into something else
JayZ was a sour note at the Grammys. Just because you think your WIFE deserves an award does not make it so. The fans and the public decide. Learn to be more humble in front of your own daughter. Not a good moment for you 👎
The country doesn't decide who gets the Grammy, it's a peer award by other music and Recording Academy professionals. What people are complaining about is akin to blaming "the country" for who receives a Pulitzer, James Beard, or Nobel Prize award when we all know good and well those are determined by private bodies. If you want a mere "popularity" award voted on by the masses, then look to the Billboard and American Music Awards instead of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
He was rude, he was sour grapes. She won 32 Grammys. The genius Joni Mitchell has only won 10. Is someone robbing Joni? Come on. Stop crying about all your success. Maybe Beyonce's albums weren't as good as her single hit on the album. That's what happens.
Black music is the best imo. All the greats growing up Tina, Whitney, Jackson 5, Prince, Temptations...so so so much more. They have for sure been slighted! I agree with JayZ about black artists being slighted, but not Beyonce. She has 32 and 80 some nominations. Blue Ivy even has a grammy. JayZ was correct in his point, but he was also wrong in downing other nominees.
Please award shows are more about garnering publicity than awarding merit. If an artist is only in it for external validation, they're going to be very disappointed.
Does it matter? Luke has taken every opportunity to give Tracy all the accolades and attention he's garnered from his cover. And trust and believe if Tracy wanted to be on the Grammy's, she would be with or without him there. Be serious. She prefers her privacy.
The Grammy's ® is run by the Recording Academy of the United States and they rightfully get to decide who the winners are. Jay-Z using his moment to repeatedly disparage the institution, saying that they get the finalists and winners wrong is disrespectful to the organisation and those who work hard to pull the awards and the event together. It smacks of Trump speak. If Beyonce wins she's a genius talent, if she loses it's rigged and corrupt. You can't have it both ways. If Jay-Z doesn't like it, he and Beyonce can start their own awards... The BeyZees... and just award themselves, their family and friends every year. 🏆🏆🏆
So what the Grammy's are saying is that out of 7 studio albums Beyoncé has released, NONE are considered 'Album of the Year' worthy. Taking a look at the comment section, it seems that you all agree. Why?
No reason. I hate that no one mentions that Beyoncé’s albums are particularly good because they are whole bodies of work, it’s not just a couple of single-worthy songs and a bunch of fillers. All the songs tell a story individually and all the songs are a part of a bigger story, her albums are true BODIES of work. She has been doing whole visual albums too, another way you can see that her priority is the whole album and not just a few songs for radio. That’s why it’s especially egregious to me that she’s never won for it. She should’ve won it for I am … Sasha Fierce, B’Day, 4, Beyonce, and Lemonade.
@@jablackdiamond That is not remotely true. Most of her albums have a few hits but mostly filler. When you have 20 writers and 10 producers on each song, that is what you get. Music by committee rarely created Album of the Year candidates.
I've never listened to an entire Beyonce album only like a few song of her so I'll never know why she hasn't received album of the year. But 38 Grammy is a good deal!! .
Stop looking for validation when you haven't shown up to the BET Awards, Soul Train Awards, the NAACP Awards in years....32 Grammys be grateful some don't even have 1.
@@Mohack88it is not a lie. Beyoncé has performed more times at the bet award than any other artist. You saying it’s false without even researching so you should stop spreading false information. Beyoncé has supported BET even after they made fun of her child on live TV. So stfu
You do realize this is an industry-wide popularity contest? Most people don't know how recordings are even nominated, much less voted for in the final tally. It ain't what you think. Less than 1,000 people cast the final votes.
To me it’s not even a Beyoncé issue but a Black artist issue. Black artist for the most part have been shut out of the major categories (I realize that has shifted a little in the past couple of years). With that said I know it is important to some but upon learning how much an agenda the committee has I don’t put as much stock into the Grammys now.
Exactly, that was his overarching point ‼He merely used Beyoncé as an example to emphasize his point: Beyoncé could be considered a standard of excellence in her industry (Singer-Songwriter) and has attained much commercial success & critical acclaim including being the most Grammy-awarded Artist in it’s history (66 Years) with 32 wins but few in major cate. & never the top honor of AOTY they go against their own voting metrics in favor of their bigotry. This was the perfect time to voice this bc his Wife wasn’t nominated this Year as her work qualified the previous year (2022) for 2023 Grammy’s where she was still snubbed by Harry Styles but that’s besides the point!
They were shut out, now they basically cancel each other out and the award goes to some old white legacy artist who put out music no one listened to... When you put Beyonce against Rihanna, Against Adele, Bey and Rih split the vote and Adele wins, even if Bey had the best out of the three.
They have not been shut-out of major categories. Beyonce, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Jay Z/Kanye are top 10 all time for Grammy wins. This is a dumb narrative
I am Sasha Fierce had two top ten hits and then a lot of crappy white-girl pop filler. That's why she didn't get album of the year. You have to have more than 2 top-ten hits on a single album!
I thought Jay Z showed no class. It seemed to snub the people who did win Grammy's. There is another place/time he could have done that if he felt it was necessary.
Totally agree… he didn’t have to show his ignorance at this event. He could have easily made a statement at a later date. Poor “B”… being embarrassed by two “narcissist’s” in the music world
It was a good show. Jay Z was a disappointment. He was directly slamming. How many people thought Beyonce didn't deserve 32 Grammys? Who was more deserving when she won those? Probably someone has thought that. It was a woman's night and all the women represented. Honestly, Beyonce doesn't need Jay Z to make her points. She can do that on her own
