Destrehan High Varsity coach has fit, gets his team 3 techs, gets tossed out of the game and causes his team to forfeith while playing Fontainebleau High in Louisiana
A contact foul against a player while the ball is live can't be a technical foul, and I didn't see anything there that I would call excessive after the whistle blew. The crossed wrists above the head can mean flagrant or intentional. The coach earned both techs, but you can't give him a third. After two, he is no longer the coach, and the referees must suspend the match if he won't leave.
There’s so much wrong in this video but there’s not once did I say great call all around. I don’t see an intentional foul. Maybe something happened that can’t be seen on video. Coach earned the first T. Don’t know if he earned the second. But give a coach an opportunity to compose himself. Then if he stays outside the lines, dump him. It should be two separate acts or one continuous and obvious single act. After the first T he can’t be heard anymore. The camera moves and catches the coach after the second T. Maybe coach said something again while out of the box and could’ve earned it. But once he’s dumped, don’t stand there looking like an idiot with your arm out. He knows he’s ejected. Move away. Walk away. Turn your back. He’s gonna get his piece. What’s done is done. This definitely doesn’t rise to unilaterally ending the game. Absolutely horrible management of this situation. This was a lot of “I have the power, watch this.”
The kids got all psyched up to play, and the coach blows it for them! Nice going coach! Yeah, you're a model of coolness and control under adverse conditions, NOT!
@jimmyd696969 They can certainly do that, it's in the rules. NFHS (high school basketball rules) Rule 2, Section 5, Article 4: "The referee may declare the game a forfeit when conditions warrant." Rule 10, Section 5, Penalty Note: "Ejected adult bench personnel shall leave the vicinity (out of sight and sound) of the playing area immediately...Failure to comply with the rules of ejection may result in the game being forfeited."
We judged the coach and the referee crew with absolute certainty after seeing only 0:21 seconds of actual play time out of a 32 minute game. I have coached before and I am an official now. I have/had a video where an opponent threw a wild elbow. after an intentional foul (deserved) on my player. I got one technical for arguing the call. I never used profanity I simply asked "So I guess neither of you saw that flying elbow?" I my opinion I did not see an "intentional" but for the coach to come out yelling on the floor across half court was enough for a technical. I had a coach meet me as I was reported a foul. I looked to see if he had an injured player or was trying to call a time out. I asked him to return to his bench. He responded with profanity I hit him with a T.
Technical foul penalty: 2 shots by any player of the opposing team, and then the ball at midcourt. A player may only have 2 technical fouls in a game before disqualification. Intentional foul penalty: two free throws by the fouled player then the ball at the spot closest to the spot of the foul. In theory, a player may have 5 intentional fouls but any referee that lets 5 intentional fouls happen before ruling one of them flagrant and disqualifying the player is not doing their job.
Indeed, if the game were to continue, Black would have received 8 free throws (2 from the original intentional foul, 6 from the three technical fouls), and the ball at the division line opposite the table, because the technical foul penalty would be enforced last. If this was an NCAA game, Black would have received the ball at the spot nearest to the foul (women), or the 28 foot mark (men), because technical fouls are enforced from the point of interruption, not by automatically placing the ball at the division line opposite the table.
I love how once the coach is gone the refs call the game. Once you get ejected bring in the cops to escort you out so the kids can finish. and yes the fans are stupid
There wasn't a tech called originally either. It was an intentional foul for grabbing the dribbler around the waist, which imo isn't even that bad.. it's just a normal foul without intent on going for the ball. More often than not I see players intentionally fouling in the last minute of the game in order to get to the basket (for fuck knows what reason, I think it's stupid because you're just giving the other team free throws), so really it WAS an intentional foul, but no, a tech wasn't called
Teams intentionally foul at the end of a game in the hopes that they will get the ball back quicker, and maybe the other time will only get 1 or 0 points. It stops the clock and potentially gets them the ball quicker instead of running the clock out
@@joshkotek7211 The reason why teams still do it in close games is because it has actually worked as far as change of possession and last second victories. It's crazy because we see it NOT work so often.
That was indeed a common foul on the original play against #22...Tapes like this need to be sent to their school association and their referee association...That will shut em up quick and change their tunes...
The coach has every right to be pissed. There's no way a tech could be called there. They Were trying to put the kid at the line and it wasn't a rough foul or anything. Piss poor officiating.
I can't get past how stupid the parents are. Saying that should be a tech... That's another T... Terrible ignorance and proud of the "victory" when ref called the game as the coach was out the door leaving.
that is absolutely the worst officiating I have ever seen. You called it on the coach you throw him out and then you forfeit the game unbelievable horrible officiating
This is the worst you've ever seen? You need to get out more. No referee has the authority to rule a forfeit, they can only suspend the match. These referees did everything exactly right.
@@goodros I would beg to differ with you. Rule 5-4-1 of the NFHS rulebook states that "The Referee may also forfeit a game if any player, team member, bench personnel, or coach fails to comply with any technical-foul penalty, repeatedly commits technical-foul infractions, or other acts that make a travesty of the game." The official was well within his rights, by rule, to declare the game a forfeit. Rule 2-5-4 also says that "The Referee may declare a forfeit when conditions warrant". A coach repeatedly misbehaving would warrant the game ending in my judgement.
Gotta Love the fans in the background who are shouting for a tech to be called on the foul. Whether it's a technical foul or an intentional foul the result is till 2 shots plus the ball for throw-in therefore why exactly are they arguing??
The issue isn't about the referee or what he did, it's about the coach who got hot, bucked up against the ref and displayed inappropriate behavior to his team of impressionable kids. (As for the video it looks like a parent in the stands. Dumbass is kind of strong don't you think? It's not about what the coach says, you can tell by his actions.
It started because the ref called a brutal intentional foul. It was not an intentional foul. The kid on defense actually had his hands on the ball when the foul was called. I have no problem with them calling a foul there, but no way was it an intentional foul. This is exactly why coaches lose it at the end of games. You know the defense is trying to foul or go after the ball. Don't be a douche bag and call an intentional foul and basically ending the game. And yes, the coach is a douche bag for losing his mind, but I can't really blame him.
i dont referee basketball but i umpire baseball…..unless the coach is making a threat to my life no shot in hell I'm calling the game while he has one foot out the door
J Bear The technicals and ejection were right. Your correct in that he shouldn't have called of the game. I ref basketball and have been attacked but we still finished the game (just with another ref).
I don't know where to begin on this one. I will say that the officiating was horrible just by looking at the small clip. Who knows what else it was like and how much time was left before they called the game. Back to the refs, they mechanic were real bad. Didn't know if they were calling a tech or intentional. They were out of position and having two trails is not good. You can have Centers for a brief especially if the one center is officiating a play. They let the game get out of control. Due to them not calling the fouls that needed to be called. let's talk about that last play where that official called and intentional on white 22. That was not an intentional, he was going for the ball and the player with the ball was swinging his elbows with the ball. You can hear the Coach call time out and refs didn't hear it because they were to busy ball watching instead of reffing their pc. Where it gets interested is when white 22 took offense to the swinging of elbows. If they wanted to they could have ejected both players. Reason for malicious swinging of the elbows and retaliation. Then the ball would have been giving back to the team in black due to poi. That's my two cents on this situation. The officials didn't handle their business out there and they cause this mess.
The coach went overboard, but that was an AWFUL intentional foul call. He was going for the ball. Teams are always trying to foul at the end of the game to stop the clock and get the ball back. I can't stand when refs do this. Unless the defender tackles the kid, it isn't intentional.
The intentional foul call is correct. Grabbing a player and wrapping him up, like White 22 did, SHOULD be called an intentional foul, because that is not an attempt to play the ball. This is an NFHS Point of Emphasis for this season.
The coach said "That's freakin' horrible!", which could be construed as profanity in this situation. He said this after repeatedly arguing that his player was going for the ball, and after the official showed him how his player fouled.
That's what the cops are for? Oh my good people please just shut up. You do not know the rules. The refs game management was brutal. They let that game get out of control so fast.
