Candace's husband Val makes his first appearance on the podcast!
If you think Candace has good stories to tell - just wait til Val gets going! Together they have raised three children (now young adults) and have so much wisdom to offer. Dr. Josh and Christi Straub lead these conversations about how to guide your teenagers through the tough years of adolescents.
Episode 8 of Becoming Better Parents is part 1 of 2 conversations this season with Val Bure, former professional hockey player, Olympic athlete, business owner, and Candace's husband of 28 years.
Each season of The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast features one guest for a deep exploration of a single theme, encouraging viewers to grow in their experiences of faith, family and purposeful living.

I had always perceived Val Bure as serious, disciplined, and strict. He is partly and maybe mostly that; however, I was so off! Val had me joyously laughing throughout this podcast. He is 100% authentically himself, filled with wisdom, knowledge, discernment, and humor. I am really looking forward to part two: The Marriage episode.

Great episode! Love how both you and Val have old school values in a sense. It's a rarity in today's society. Nice to see! Side note... During a time when my faith was dwindling do to some health issues...You've strengthened my faith in Christ! Both you and your brother, Kirk. It's refreshing to see someone who isn't afraid to speak their truth, regardless of any backlash (whether religious or political). Just know your podcast has truly had a postive impact on others, myself especially. Thank you! ❤️

Candace and Val, it really is good to hear you be transparent that it wasn’t always easy raising your teens, and that you had some really rough times. I think people need to hear others admit this, because the reality is, it’s very hard. So many parents try to downplay or hide the incredibly raw and rocky times raising their teenagers. I hear talks and podcasts about “raising teens” that seem to be so pure and perfect, and the parents recount how they dealt with everything so beautifully, and the teens responded on-point. This is a rare reality, though. We need more candid talks about the realistic rough road of raising teenagers. We have raised two sons (now 19 and 21), and have a 14-year-old daughter too. The boys’ teen years rocked our worlds. Please, let’s dive into this reality more often. Love your podcast and RU-vid channel, Candace. We are the same age; I feel like we “grew up together” so to speak! God bless you ✝️

This is my first time watching your Pod Cast. And it was great. I lost my husband to suicide 24 years ago. It tore my family apart. My twins were 15 and my son was 12. He was a great father and to this day I still don't understand it. We all ran in different directions. We even ran from God. My daughter's stopped talking to me. And my son ended up in prison. My youngest daughter dedicated her life back to God. And was baptized. We are now speaking and going to church together. And when my son was in prison he started listening to someone about Oden. I'm praying that one day he'll go to church with me. My oldest still won't speak to me. I tell my adult children I love them whenever we talk. Please pray for my family

I'm very sorry to hear about Val's father. I remember hearing stories about the Bure's here in Vancouver, and their incredible physical (and undoubtedly mental) training routines. And it's hard to forget because people still talk about it! Those guys were on another level that changed hockey and athletics in general. Vlad carried a great deal of respect and admiration, and a lot of that I believe helped develop the very same in their sons. Father and son relationships are always complicated, without exceptions. But you know you've done something right when the kids turn out to be such great and humble people. Love goes out to the entire Bure family.

I love your podcast Candace. This episode though, (not being unkind) but made me feel sad. I grew up with a very verbally abusive mom, who would call me the B word, stupid and worse. It’s making me look back and feel sad that I didn’t have a family like yours or your cohosts. I’m also 31 and yearn for a husband and children so I could see it from that perspective and cultivate an environment of love and encouragement and safety, but Gos hasn’t provided in that area yet, so I may be still in a season of waiting and healing. I loved seeing Val on the podcast. Even though I feel sad, this is so far my favorite episode of the season. You all have so much wisdom. ❤

While you guys were talking about special fun times, it reminded me of one of our families' special times. Sometimes, on a relaxing Saturday, my husband and I would yell " Bed Party". The kids would come running into our bedroom and jump in bed with us. We had some of the best times when we had " bed parties." I wouldn't be surprised that my kids, even as adults, would still be excited to hear " Bed Party."❤❤❤

No judgement just true curiosity. I don’t understand why parents let their kids on social media or use video games at all knowing the risks and what it does to the brain. It’s a bit harsh but we protect our kids from drugs and they have the same effect on the brain. So why even start the tension and addiction linked to social media and video games. I truly don’t feel like kids will be missing out. I feel like they miss out on real life and connection immersed in worlds that don’t exist. Society accepts these things but what I’m learning is society doesn’t value the well being of children. It encourages seperation from parents from “self care” as in pampering oneself away from children, daycare for “socializing”, and video games and social media to “be connected.” It’s a lie which is a sin and it’s sad.

You can't shield them from everything, especially things that are inevitable. You have to show them how to navigate responsibly so they don't go wild and without boundaries, outside of our guidance. Sounds like you may not have kiddos, it won't be something you can fully understand until you're in those shoes.
@milliethemillinator3154
@milliethemillinator3154 6 дней назад
And honestly, you do sound like you are judging. 😬 A lot of what you said is true and makes sense, just not all realistic. We aren't to live of this world, but we have to show our kids how to navigate it and also remain in our faith. If we completely shield, they aren't relatable. We are to reach the lost, how do we do that if they don't understand anything about the world we just shielded them from? Keeping kids from everything isn't going to teach them how to navigate the world on their own either. They could be lost completely by the lure of things they weren't introduced to.

Deuteronomy (and all other Old Testament books) were written to the nation of Israel. The Gentiles were not offered salvation until Saul of Tarsus became the Apostle Paul in Acts 9. So none of the Old Testament applies to Gentiles. You should not be using the Old Testament for application to your children. We've been in the age of grace since Saul of Tarsus was converted to Christianity and became the Apostle Paul in Acts 9. Grace is only found in the gospel of John, Acts 9 - 28, and Paul's epistles (Romans through Philemon). All other scripture within the bible is for our learning - not for daily application... see Romans 15:4. The word "aforetime" in that verse means: "all scripture which was written before the age of grace." Even so, come, Lord Jesus Rev 22:20 KJV

The word of God (Old and New Testament) is meant for everyone, knock off the legalism and PLEASE get help with getting set free from that spirit of religion and offense. You'll do far more harm carrying around those dangerous spirits than good. It's those demonic spirits that drive people away from the faith, not to it.

@@milliethemillinator3154 You really should read Romans 15:4 and ask (through prayer) that the verse's meaning and intent would be revealed to you. Strong's Concordance would be a good place to start and using a King James Version bible is better than any other version in print. Even so, come, Lord Jesus Rev 22:20 KJV

@@SteveSpence-cc4ppIsaiah 56:1-8 shows us the Lord had every intention of accepting gentiles. Also, He accepted all throughout the Old Testament of those who were once in pagan faiths. Get a gripe, stop judging what you clearly don't know. PLEASE get help before you drive more people away from God and the truth.

@@SteveSpence-cc4pp😂 You may want to read further down in Romans, it clearly states what you wrongly proclaim.
