The 3-5-3 Defense, Georgia Military style, was the first defense I ever installed on my own. I’ve loved it ever since. Even when running other fronts as a base, the 3-3-5 Defense (or 5-3, or any combination of letters and numbers you want) has always been available as a change-up in our package.
This episode of The Football Coaching Podcast breaks down the feature that makes the defense unique. The stacks. It’s a great look at the concepts that are central to our 33 Stack Defensive System at Joe Daniel Football, and what you should look out for as a stack defense coach. Check it out!

Instead of drawing your play to an offensive formation, try drawing your play to an offensive formation one second after the ball is snapped. In power, there is instantly no “A” gap. The ps guard and center will dbl your nose, and the ps tackle and y will dbl your end, and your “c” gap will disappear. Backside tackle will block backside end. So now, you only have 2 gaps. Backside “A” and play side “B” there is no thinking at that point. Mike hits ps b hard, will fills bs A, hard, the ps Safty crashes the de, and Sam hits off the Y hard. Free cleans up any missed tackles, backside safety plays it slow. Super important will fills that pull gap, into the backfield, the crash will force a cutback and the second the back slows down, the will, will destroy him for a 4 yard loss

Running a 3-3 stack in middle school, should i stay basic so my kids understand the importance of the stack

But, having the Mike look for and react to the off tackle run means he will not blitz with the same "katy bar the door" determination that I want, when I call a blitz. There is a trade off.

I am fascinated by this because it is something I came up with myself. I must emphasize that I have NO practical experience, so I may be talking nonsense. But it seems to me that the six guys can cover (in various un-predictable ways) the six gaps (or perhaps I should say "lanes") that come from the five OLs. If there is a classic strong side, then the SS can cover the extra gap that comes from that. Then you can have five DBs, your best guy (as a rule) playing man on their best guy. With only one guy playing man, no picks (or whatever they are called these days) are possible. The other four DBs and the mike can play 3-2 zone, with the strong side corner playing deep zone (and lined up accordingly). The FS would line up central and just move over to his zone, watching the QB. If there is no strong side, then the SS takes over the middle zone from the mike, leaving him to rush. Deep passes to the best receiver would be very dangerous, forcing throws into the shallow zones, where the presence of four guys should again make matters difficult for the QB.

@@Joe4372 thanks, just picked up the JDFB insiders... about to hit the lab! I’m making the jump from MS to the big leagues next season haha... We were really successful using the 33 and want to be as prepared as humanly possible to continue the success at the HS level 👍🏼

He’s trying to make sure you don’t get too deep into the backfield. No deeper than the heels of the center.

Always ask your coach immediately if you don’t understand! But you’re on a great track, keep studying football yourself, good luck.
