Coal train CP crew change to CN in Kamloops and a surprise visit of 6644

Here we see a crew change between CP and CN at Lorne street where coal trains stop and the crew changes over from and to each other railway companies due to the new arrangement with TEC coal.
We also get a surprise visit of SD70acu 6644 air force spitfire remembrance unit.

Great video Tony. Still amazes me that CN can outbid CP on the coal haul yet use CP locomotives, cars and track for the most part. Obviously they dropped the trailing locomotive at Geddis.

Great catch of 6644 while filming the coal trains crew change. Another busy location with all the trains now using the CN bridge over the river.

Thanks, 6644 was a total surprise. Had no idea it was in the area otherwise I might have set up farther to the east and flown the drone for it

This video is great. My view of Kamloops has only been the Kamloops Now live cameras and it is great to see other parts of Kamloops. Loved the close-ups of the CN bridge. I learned something from this video, I mistakenly thought the crew changes would happen at the CN station, instead of the interchange yard. Keep up the great work Tony. It is always fun to watch your work.

Thanks Cindy, Kamloops is a unique city in that is has many different elevations and the neiborhoods are spread out.

A friend's dad owned the Stihl chainsaw shop above Kamloops East. It looks like it's still there. Kamloops East keeps changing to accomodate two subdivisions, two railways and a yard. A friend of my dad was the yard foreman. He had a farm in Westwold with a wooden boxcar you could see from the highway or CN Okanagan sub..

Many CP coal trains end up in North Vancouver also at Neptune Terminals…CN tracks.

Another great video, Tony. I kind of chuckle when I see a crew change in a video. The new crew look like they're loading suitcases, coolers, bags of groceries. Looks like they've packed up for a month-long trip. I wonder how long these crew members are away from home at 1 time.

Thanks William, Typically they will overnight in the “away” location and then take a train back the next day so they pack enough food for at least 4 meals

C.P. Crews are used on C.P. Trains west of Kamloops only in a Detour situation would a C.N. crew be used and Vice Versa. GOD BLESS

No, this is incorrect, CN takes over loaded coal trains at Kamloops that come from TECK in a very strange deal that started this spring and will go for 5 years. It was agreed upon that CP power will remain on the trans as it become too much trouble to swap them out. CN just pays back hours in cash to CP (if you watch closely the new crew comes out of a CN vehicle)

The crew has to carry two fully packed grips my god in my Calgary to field Bc run from 1981. To 2011. FTFM. We got away with one grip 1/2. Books 1/2 Food

Actually it is CN employees, CN signed a deal with TEC for the next 5 years to deliver the coal on there line to the port. CP and CN worked out a deal that tey keep the power on the train but crew will change to CN in Kamloops on the westbound trip and back over to CP on the eastbound trip
