I remember this show! It was insane! Broken guitar in the first song, Sean crawling into the stage, and throwing the drums off stage when they were done. I remember my friend who put on the fest, or something like that asked coalesce why they threw the drums off stage and one of them said, "they had to get off the stage some how".
Actually, there's a 4-DVD set called No Business In This Business that contains every live video of themselves that Coalesce could find when they were putting it together. 14 shows, 12 of them from 1995-98. It's not the best sound, but a lot of total chaos happens. The full set from this show is on it, for one.
I was fortunate enough to see them in DC in 95 or so. Touring with Bloodlet & 108 I think. No one knew who they were & no one watched cept me & a couple of the bar kitchen staff. They CRUSHED it. I was amazed. Great band. Great, great band.
That was a crazy show. It was only the staff and a handful of kids that were spitting and throwing stuff at us. I remember someone came up to us asking why we played that club, with those bands. And they used a phrase that describes us perfectly, “you’re too metal to be punk... and too punk to be metal.” We described ourselves for years.
The Instant Heroes Cast so many crazy memories. I talked to you guys after one of the dc shows. I remember going outside to smoke a cig and talk to you guys after and I gave you my address. You mailed me your first cd... or was it a tape? I said you all could crash at my place anytime you come through town again. Never spoke again but always kept up with you guys. Legends.
