So glad they’re putting in the hard work and practice. USCG there to save us idiot recreational boaters when we do something stupid. I’m am always amazed at some of crap boats I see going out in The Deep Blue.
These captains are the best of the best....I have a buddy Capt. Phillips who ran a 42 footer like it was a jet ski back in the 80's out of San Pedro. Unreal what they can do with watercraft.
I was a seaman in the Coast Guard from 1975-1979 and we had a 44ft double ended self-righting boat this is 47ft version of that boat very impressive. Was in Sturgeon Bay at a small boat station we had a 41ft aluminum hull boat 600 horsepower we took off the top of 10-12-foot waves doing a rescue. Loved doing rescue work.
Watched the boys in Newport Oregon playing on the bar while we were waiting out weather in south harbor.. they were rolling the boat in 30+ foot breakers!!!!
Takes years to qualify then certify as a Surf Coxswain. But more importantly, a great Coxswain is only as good as their crew so having a highly trained crew is just as important as having a highly trained Coxswain. The MLB 47 was designed primarily for this type of operation. It sucks for personnel transfers, boardings, or anything where the transfer platform is lower and smaller than the 47. Police officers learn to push their cruisers to the max and essentially train by driving it like they stole it. Same principle applies to CG training, CG doesn't train in perfect conditions because then when everything is worst case scenario you have crews that are now operating in conditions they are not comfortable in. When operations are easier than training scenarios the scene slows down and things become manageable. Train, maintain, operate.
Chief Petty Officer to the Lieutenant JG as they head towards the big surf...'Ah, Sir did you have that pork fried double chimichanga with the quesadilla covered chorizo special?'...'Sir?'
We did this in an old 17 foot Chriscraft with a 48 Ford flathead V8 off Ocean Beach in San Diego in complete fog. Waves were breaking inside the jetty.
Local surfers: Could you guys do that on a day when it’s not glassy and perfect?? Seriously though, what an incredible piece of engineering! And brave sailors, too!
Around 10:06a North OB cam? I was about 300 feet South of them in the water, I had to get to work plus seemed a bit sketchy, so I managed to take a wave in and Wow! I thought they were going to flip.
ruly, the religion with Allah is Islam. Those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) did not differ except, out of mutual jealousy, after knowledge had come to them. And whoever disbelieves in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah, then surely, Allah is Swift in calling to account.
Proverbs 30:8-9 8 Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: 9 Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the Lord? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.
Igual ese pequeño barco está en la costa ..está capeando ..en mar abierto las olas con tormenta también se capea ..pero es más grande con mucho viento eso no es nada ...lo marineros pescadores saben
Coast Guard members are just built different. They don't get the respect they 150% deserve. Water hits like a ton of bricks, and in winter off the Cali coast that's gotta be so freaking cold.
