I agree. One of the LAST "deeds" I did before leaving my last 210 as TCIC (and ships systems manager) was to "acquire" enough computer (back then, it was known as a standard work station) parts to put together a system for the Jack-of-the-Dust to have his own setup. There was this little room right next to the galley and just off the messdeck (no, not the old MARS room) where I set it up. A monitor, a CPU w/mem module, and graphics slice for the color monitor I "traded" for. The ET's were nice enough to run me a network cable to said room. The FSC was VERY VERY happy for this parting gift. Always take care of your cooks. Besides the Radioman/Telecommunications specialist, they are the MOST important person on the ship! 73's

I was stationed on the Mellon from Nov. 2002-June 2006. (Although, I wasn't a "model" SN, I did like being there. I don't know if it became a 'well known' story or not...BUT... in 2003 sometime (I forget the exact date) I did sneak a puppy from Mexico across the border (from TJ) & onto the ship (& into berthing 2)). I was 'caught' with it. so the pup never 'acquired any "sea time"'. But it was a well known story while I was aboard.

Interesting video; I enjoyed it! By the way, you mentioned that you can send mail home when you get to a port...is it possible to receive mail from home? It's hard to imagine mail following you around wherever you go, but it seems they were able to do that back in WW2 so I thought I'd ask.
@tc1uscg65
@tc1uscg65 4 года назад
@@AlanaReynolds_RealEstate Wow, things have changed. I've been out since 1999 and we got inbound mail when we could. We were lucky though. We were out of St Pete (Resolute) and we'd get our mail sent over to the A/S who would bring it down to GITMO when we would come in to fuel, supplies, etc. Or if we were operating close, we would have our helo go in and get it during a LE flight. When I reported aboard, I flew down to Cayman Island to meet the ship. I filled my seabag with all the mail (and ship part) and took it with me. I had already shipped my uniform items before reporting aboard and before the Resolute departed on patrol (I was in transit) so I tried my best as TCIC to ensure mail was waiting for us in GITMO or where ever we were going.
