OMG... They got rid of the sauna! it was in the weight room on the port side. Cant believe that piece of history was removed! A cool piece of history is a picture in the 1st class lounge and the aviation unit paintings in the hangar throughout all the years.

Great video, its my dream to get on the Polar Star. I’m in the Auxiliary doing Food Service and AuxFS’s can go aboard cutters to cook. I am hoping to get onto the Polar Star for a complete round trip. I have a bottle of Shackleton’s Whisky recovered from Antarctica in 2006 and desperately want some water/ice to bring home to have it how Shackleton drank it in 1907. My bucket list would be complete to both cook on the Polar Star and have the whisky how it was drank in 1907.

Just graduated High School (18) I'm going to be going to my second MEPS appointment soon. I hope that I get a base that has on base housing. I can't wait to serve our country.
The ensign forgot to mention if the ship did get stuck in the ice, which like he said would be very rare, there exists a series of pumps in each set of fuel tanks and water tanks. This system is designed to transfer fuel and water from one side of the ship to the other rocking the ship and breaking the ice on the side.
