I have two nephews in the coastguard. They’re exactly the cute, puppy dog types. They’re adorable and friendly. (Although truthfully, they can be badass when they wanna be)
Former 11b, I'd 100% encourage my kids to go coast guard. Conus, fantastic duty stations, sweet speed boats and life saving missions. What's the downside?
My dad was a Coastie. Smart man... enlisted right after the Korean war. He was out before Vietnam hit. So, he couldn't get drafted. All his service was during peace time. And yeah, he was quite good looking when he was younger. LOL!
I’ve been in the Coast Guard for 3 years as a BM (I drive boats and wear floaties) but the culinary thing is for special events with high ranking officials we enlisted folk don’t eat that shit you lucky if your food was even fried all the way through
Get on an 87, you'll eat better than anyone else since its a small crew. There's no bulk canned food, the FS usually goes shopping once a week when in port or right before getting u/w.
We used to run a coast guard captain or whatever his high ass rank was in iraq. He was funny as fuck and i have 0 idea to this day wtf he did there lol. He was just a lone wolf vibing the desert. Or he was lost. Maybe he didnt even work for the military. No one ever asked. He would ask for rides and we would say okay 😂 When i was back home they would always eat lunch at this bar and grill on the water. Made friends with them and when i missed the boat out to the party beach id just go to the bar and the coastguard would shoot me out there after lunch 😂
I checked out Coast Guard, they sat me down with videos for _two days_ and told me the motto is, "You have to go out. You don't have to come back." "80% don't make it to retirement." I decided I have drowned before, I have had immersion hypothermia, I have done SERE, it's not that bad, but I am probably not brave enough to get through the _training_ to be Coast Guard.
I mean, I did it. Graduated USCG boot camp back in 2015 with company Foxtrot 191. I’m out now, but it was certainly a helluva time. If you’re not a strong swimmer, they teach you. But that’s true, you do have to go out. My first unit was a small boat station in MA that did search and rescue, and tbh, not going out isn’t really something you think about when lives are on the line. Granted, you have to be a little nuts to willingly sign up for a branch that purposely goes into the storm while everyone else is trying to escape it. I don’t regret it though.

Coast guard was way cooler then I expected! My son joined the marines but maybe should have looked into CG. Looks like a good life. He’s kinda hating his life right now. 😅
Last weekend my mom's cousins husband brought us out onto a coast guard base and we raced the other boat even tho it was the same speed 😂 they were heading south to Milwaukee to meet another coast gaurd. They let my sister drive and she slammed the boat down and we all jumped in the air

aviator? as in pilot? I'm not in the coast guard, but in our branch you have to be an officer to fly. And you need a college degree to be an officer. There are some rare chances at becoming an officer without a degree but it's not very common.
I worked with the USCG for 4 years in a Joint Task force. I regretted joining the Army. Every day, I had to remind myself that these were Active Duty Sailors because it was so chill, but when they had to work, they WORKED!!! I went through Hurricane Harvey with them assisted in over 300 boardings and several S&R missions. Sector Houston-Galveston was the best Military/Law Enforcement force I have ever had the honor to work with (including my own LE Department)!!! Semper Paratus, Y'all!

I met a dude from the Coast Guard in Bagram when I was going on R&R in 2011. Dude was funny as shit talking about he only sees mountains and no coast. He was deployed with the Air Force.
I go to MEPS and asvab and all that June 24th, hopefully ship out in august after that, this stuff is helping me tell myself I can do this and its something to look forward to rather than be scared shitless Still scared shitless but its easier
