Day 2 of my Coast to Coast adventure, I set off from the place I stayed in Cleator and headed for Dent, which was deceptively difficult.
After Dent, I descended into Ennerdale Bridge & encountered plenty of funny animals along the way, as well as, of course, stunning views of the Western Lakes.
As I approach Ennerdale Water, there's no shortage of beauty as I'm awestruck by the lake and its surrounding fells. I walk along the left hand side of the lake, which I definitely recommend to anyone hiking the C2C.

Thank you to everyone watching, I appreciate each and every one of you!

Also, my brother and I hiked Hadrian’s Wall to raise money for Mind, we got 55 miles in before we were forced to cut it short due to food poisoning from The Twice Brewed Inn on our third night! We're better now, and will continue the walk soon, so if you’d like to donate and support Mind I’ll add the link below! It’d mean so much, and for a good cause!

Hi Jennifer, I just love to watch your video's and reliving our own journey on the C2C, since we hiked exáctly in the same period (Year and months). And I also love your interest in nature and how you show it to us and describe it. I'm glad we met and that I've learned about your channel. Thank you so much! 😘

That’s so lovely, and yeah I’m glad you can watch these back knowing you were there (or thereabouts) around the same days! I hope you like the rest of them, I’m sure I mention all of you guys by name after Danby Wiske (day 11 or 12 I think?)

I hadn't even considered the C2C but a lot of that looks gorgeous. On talking to camera and being on camera, I really enjoy listening to whatever you're saying, even of you think you're rambling; it's what humanises the content and makes it more than just about the trail, it makes it personal and interesting. Also not gonna lie, the selfies on the thumbnails make me click too, and I'd like to see you more on camera, but you do what you're comfortable with as it's your journey... We're just lucky to be along for the ride.

I’m so glad you think so, about the rambling etc, and what a lovely thing to say! I think in the future I’ll try to be more comfortable with being on camera, it feels different to taking a selfie, it feels more personal, but I’m slowly getting there with the odd glimpse in my more recent videos 😁 Happy you liked the video, I hope you enjoy the rest to come!

Another beautiful video. To anyone who is planning on walking - when you get to the road (~16:00 mins in on this video) - keep your wits about you and make sure you use the path on the left of the road as you descend off the fell and into Ennerdale Bridge - the road is a rat run for staff from Sellafield and cars go past way too fast.
@Orenjen
@Orenjen 7 месяцев назад
Yes definitely! I should've noted that in my video, luckily I took the path because I did notice cars gong fast around sharp bends, it's dangerous otherwise.

Yes a Rolled Ankle on the descent from Dent is a possibility especially if its raining. I rolled my ankle on the descent from Kinder Scout on my first Pennine Way, but that did not stop me from completing the Pennine Way way back in 1975.

@@chandlerbingbongA mix of Wild Camps and 3 night in YHA averaging 20 miles per day and walking as fast as I could with a 25kg backpack, I knew that Army training would come in usefull on my many cross country hikes. Retired now but in the past I have done the Pennine Way twice - South to North and North to South, C2C twice West to East and East to West, Hadrians Wall hike in Both direction, Norfolf/Suffolk Coastal Path, John OGroats to Land End, and Lands End to John OGroats and finally the Complete Coast Route round UK/Great Brittian (that last one took 4 years), and no I did not record the total milage, lets just say it was a long hike walking Monday to Saturday, Sunday was my one rest day each week. @@chandlerbingbongat the time of writing this my legs are getting twitchy, maybe one last hike will be possible, even though I am getting close to my 67th Birthday? Maybe once it gets a bit warmer I can once again Visit Ennerdale or maybe my favourite Place Keld, I have passed through Keld four times so far twice on the Pennine Way and twice on the C2C, its just the peace and quiet of Keld that I love and as a bonus the local waterfalls along that streatch of the Valley. Keep hike as long as you can, I know I miss my yearly visit up North since my last Hike a few years ago. Not sure how my knees will react once they find out where I am going... Your videos are incredibly absorbing, loving this series so far. Was there an extra charge for the food and drink at the air B&B? As for the uphill bits, i don't think many of us enjoy them but the reward at the top makes them worthwhile. Hiking poles are a massive help, especially when carrying a heavy backpack and also when going down a steep descent. Also it's not a race, just enjoy the views from time to time and let the legs dictate the pace. You're doing bloody great so far, I bet you loved those fells when you got there 🙂
@Orenjen
@Orenjen 6 месяцев назад
I’m so glad you think so!😁 and yes there was a charge for the wine & breakfast the next day, I think £6 for the bottle (she said it’s a non-profit bar so basically just what she paid for in the shop) and the breakfast was around £5 I think? And yes carrying a 17kg bag uphill is so tough and I wish I enjoyed it more 😂 considering I’ve got strong legs but I’m just 5ft 3” so I do struggle with it sometimes 😂 you’re right though, the views definitely make it worth it, and I’ll definitely invest in some hiking poles! I’ve been thinking about it for a while, not sure why I haven’t done already!
@pauledwards499
@pauledwards499 6 месяцев назад
@@Orenjen Wow that's an absolute bargain, it's nearly £11 for just a large glass of wine in a lot of places so a brekkie thrown in is amazing! Yeah the hiking poles are a godsend, they're definitely worth taking and a hiking pole tent saves a hell of a lot of weight in your pack. Going to enjoy another episode now :)

Day 2 for me was just a short stroll from Black Sail to the Camp site at Stonethwaite, but that was a hell of a climb out from Black Sail YHA.
@user-TonyUK

I have done both the left hand and right hand side of Ennerdale Water and I prefer the Right hand side. That Forrest track from the Lake/Village seemed to me to take longer and it was monotonous. Head down and just plod on sort of thing, while the Right Hand Bank of Ennerdale Water was up and down the views were better (in my opinion).
@user-TonyUK

A few minutes AFTER the Ennerdale Lake YHA the road forks with the main track to Black Sail and the fork to the LEFT that leads to a Medieval Village site.

This area is on my door step, I live in Workington, I used to often run around Ennerdale Water and up to the Black Sail YHA and back, the other side of Ennerdale Water is indeed a much rougher path and would have been hard going with your rucksack. As us locals call it, the Ennerdale Valley is "God's Country!" Nice video. xx

Beautiful to see, in beautiful weather, Jen Hope your knee was OK Blimey the Hero11? mic was good to pick up that shepherd yelling across the valley. Poor dog - they sounded like an incompetent dog handler 🤨 Looking at that crude C2C daub on a rock made me wonder weather it would be more stylish to use the little painted flag like designs they do in other countries - they're cool. I feel that same as you about disturbing animals on/near the path and I always divert around them, but being flight creatures they often move from a long way off. Yeah, so I find steep ascents dismal too and I love the intimacy of beautiful valleys and rolling landscapes. So I won't go out of my way to do steep climbs, but will if they're on the way to somewhere. I'm a downsman - Chilterns and near the south downs - so what I call civilised hills 😄(tho the slippery paste - wet chalk dust from the soft rock - is eViL)

Hey Jen, did you notice that from 2:33, you keep on turning aroung again and again... whilst babbling endlessly? The first day was somewhat nicer but I am used to more quiet videos (especially when the monologue does NOT add up anything really interesting. Oh well... I'll stick to them I guess. Too bad. I was hoping for some feminine approach of seeing things (since most of the walkers are males) but not too such an extent.
@Orenjen
@Orenjen 5 месяцев назад
Haha yeah again I think it’s because as I’m chatting I gesture a lot so turning is an extension of that I guess, as well as just showing scenery as I talk. I talk a lot more in my more recent videos but my older ones are a lot less chatty if that’s what you prefer… my West Highland Way video for instance. And I’ve always been incredibly chatty but it’s coming out the more I feel comfortable behind the camera with my audience. I believe it’s anxiety or adhd related, I often lose track of time when I’m like that, and I keep some of it in whilst editing because I believe it gives insight and perspective to topics that both do and don’t relate to hiking
