Coastal Foraging - Foraging a local beach and rocky shore for Shellfish, Cockles, Clams and looking at any other sealife we can find. Followed by a wonderful Seafood Spaghetti cook up. #coastalforaging #foraging #catchcleanandcook
Absolutely brilliant video. David Attenborough and Delia smith in one clip. A great educational video. I also like the respect you show for the wildlife. Thank you for sharing your time.
- Thank you Simon it is our pleasure, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think total credit here goes to Mrs Fishlocker. She did an incredible job with those clams. It was absolutely delicious. Best wishes and stay safe. :)
- That is wonderful to hear Morgan. I hope our videos help to provide a welcome distraction over the coming weeks. Lord knows we could all use it I feel. Stay safe.
I love that you put the small ones back and don’t take more than you and the family as re going to eat , I have alot of respect for you, your not greedy at all. Thank you for teaching us 😃
- Thank you Corinne and welcome to our channel. I am glad that you share our philosophy on sustainable foraging. It is a lesson we are teaching our children and one I hope people take away from our videos. Never take more than you need, and always treat the natural world with respect and appreciation. Best wishes and stay safe. :D
My favorite things to watch nowadays. More refreshing than watching news. Watching your video make me think that we still have a lot to thank for. Beautiful nature!
TheSnowangel235 - I was thinking about this earlier. With all the fear and negativity going on, I hope our small channel can bring at least a little distraction and positivity to the world. 😊💙🐚🦀
I absolutely love these videos! I live in the central US and love watching you forage because I’ve never seen these creatures in real life before. Thanks for making these!
Brady Werner - It is our pleasure Bradley, I am so glad that we are able to share these things with everyone. Best wishes to you and your family and stay safe. 😊👍🏻🐚🍽
I'm starving now... That Shellfish dish she cooked at the end looked mint pal... Good on you and your lovely Mrs John.. Cant get enough of the fish locker mate.. Taking the little lads to Morecombe this sunday if the weather is right mate... Lets see what we get pal.. :-) God bless to you and yours from me and mine.. Tony aka ~Guru Murphinda~ and all my little farmers.
The Little Farmers Farm - Thank you very much mate. I think all credit should go to Mrs Fishlocker with this one. She really did do a cracking job. It was delicious. Good luck at Morecambe and be careful. Stay safe mate. 😉👍🏻🐚
If you want a good scallop recipe try this I’ve been eating this since I was a kid as I grew up from a family of fishermen!!!....fry a diced shallot with some garlic and Parma ham then add some white wine (reduce) add your cream with a tiny bit of Parmesan cheese for seasoning a squeeze of lemon and finish of with chopped parsley. Then fry your scallops in a bit of olive oil and butter. Add it all together in the pan and (hey presto) 👍 then toast some bread on a griddle pan to mop up the sauce with. It’s a winner trust me 😉
The Fish Locker you don’t have to add the Parmesan I only add a little to season. But yeah you should give that one a go. Keep up the good work I love watching your videos 👍
The Fish Locker haha let me know how you get on. Tell your other half just to soften the onion and garlic and not fry it. Good luck bud, I bet you will keep that recipe. I do it when me and my wife have guests round, never had any complaints yet 🤞
The Fish Locker you can add langoustines as well if you want to go a bit posh or brown crab meat to the sauce. Or any firm fish like monk or turbot. Anyway I’m making myself hungry. I’ll leave it with ya. 👍
miso - They really are so cute aren’t they. They always bring a little smile to my face. 😊 I am glad you’re enjoying the videos and best wishes to you and your family 👍🏻🐚🍽
The way the water washes away the sand and exposing the shellfish was a huge plus! That dish simply looks delicious. I love clams and shellfish. Thank you for taking us for a walk today. 😉👍😊
So what have we got in this 33 minute video? A wonder around a beach in awful weather finding different clams, crabs, starfish, sea weeds and shore life wonderfully explained by our knowledgeable host. Then add to this a simple to cook but stunning looking cheap meal. put it all together and you've got over 1/2 hour of entertainment that belongs on television as both entertainment & educational, that would help break up the terrible news of this virus that's sweeping the world. Stay safe people.
- Thank you very much for the kind words David. I thought about this the other day. I hope that with all the fear and negativity going on that our videos may at least bring a little distraction and happiness to people. Best wishes mate and stay safe. ;)
@@TheFishLocker my husband and I have saltwater tanks and we love to watch your videos. I agree with David B. you should be on television! Thank you so much for what you do!
Great episode! This one seems a bit more relaxing than previous adventures. I also liked the botany lesson towards the end. The spaghetti looks delicious, delicious, delicious!!! And that clam falling off the plate, classic!
J. Euqotse - Haha. I guess the clam falling off the plate shows its honest. 😆 I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I will throw in the odd wild edible as and when they present themselves.😉 The meal really was delicious, my good lady deserves total credit she did a wonderful job. Best wishes and have a great weekend.
- I will try to bring in a little bit of something new from time to time to see how it is received. Rather than go full on into something viewers might not enjoy. ;) You will see more about wild edibles as the year goes on.
Thanks both for giving us some normality in this crazy time. Love going foraging with you john, and shows what an amazing place we live! mother nature at her best x
I really enjoy following your adventures along the coast of England. You have a good knowledge of what you find and I enjoy that also. Makes remember when I was little and at the seaside and how we would forage for cockles and have a good boil up of them. I look forward to your video's and just want to let you know that what you do in your videos is really enjoyed, a fan from Chicago.
- Thank you Philip that is really kind of you to say. I am thrilled that we are able to share our passions with people all over the world. It sounds like you have some great memories of the shore as a kid. Wonderful. :D Best wishes to you sir and stay safe.
Thanks John, that was a lovely walk , you are a fountain of knowledge and what you don't know you find out for us and put it up on the screen . I also loved last weeks videos of our East Coast too. We are so lucky to have such a diverse coastline .
- It absolutely is our pleasure Teresa. As I have said from the start this is a learning experience for us all. I share with you what I know, and what I am not sure about - I will find out and share that too. I am still learning every time I go out. Best wishes to you and your family my friend and stay safe. :)
I love your videos, for one reason; it reminds me that we complicate life to the point we forget what it’s all about. Food, fresh air , family. Well done
Phin Attack - I think it is because we are not out chasing them. We are just sharing what we love doing with others who share our passions. If people like us they subscribe. 😊🤷🏻♂️
The Fish Locker you don’t need to chase, they will definitely come. You must’ve flipped over a million rocks in your time and I can still sense the excitement and appreciation every time you do it. We get a lifetimes worth of knowledge in every video. Glad I found this channel 👍🏼👍🏼
Oh the bounty of the ocean. We need more people like this family who care. And he is raising his family right. Thank you FL family for showing us where we can enjoy fulfilling things in this system.... Team fishlocker
- We have our disagreements like any family but we try to make sure that whatever we are doing we do it together and we have fun whilst we're doing it. Take care Rosemary and stay safe. :D
colintraveller - It really was something special. I think Mrs Fishlocker did a wonderful job and I had a great time exploring on the shore. All the best mate. 😊👍🏻
- I don't know if it would help us or limit us. Right now we reach people and share what we choose. Also, I think most networks and organisations like the BBC have bigger agendas and we don't really fit into that. It would be wonderful to be able to share with so many people but I don't know. We will see. :)
Found a mermaid's purse on the shore of the Gulf of Mexico last week and only knew what it was because of your videos! Used a light and saw a live embryo squirming, so I moved it as far out into the water as I could hoping it might have a chance of surviving.
Mattie Gr - That is a wonderful success story and brought a big smile to my face. Both that we have shared with you some of our knowledge but also that you were able to see it alive and made an effort to return it safely. Thank you. 😊
fred dimble - Thanks Fred, yes we are just keeping our heads down. Mrs Fishlocker did a blooming wonderful job with them clams. Was absolutely delicious!! 😊🍽🐚👌🏻
- It is our pleasure Ashley and welcome to our channel. I hope you enjoy there rest of our videos. I uploaded a special one last night that I think you might enjoy. ;)
Steve Faure - I was thinking about this earlier. With all the fear and negativity going on, I hope our small channel can bring at least a little distraction and positivity to the world. 😊💙🐚🦀
You rarely mention the edibility of the various odd seaweeds you are showing, like that one with the polyp-disc-stem configuration. Some of us are very interested in that, and would like to know. Thank you. Absolutely love your videos.
- I am glad that you think so. My personal favourite is still our little boy catching his first bass. He makes me so proud. :D ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uEtDNmKmDTI.html
- Thank you Gabs, I am glad that you enjoy them so much. Hopefully we can keep the quality going through this poor weather and difficult time of limited movement. Stay safe. ;)
One of the things I love about your videos is the way you put back what you can't take yet. That's mad respect right there. Wish more people would do that as well.
- Some species do not mix well with others. But generally in nature most things live in harmony. Males will fight with other males for a female, but that is the same throughout nature including humans.lol.
Really good looking food as always. Must be great being able to go and forage for fresh sea food and then straight to your plate. Satisfying, fun and totally healthy.
just dean - Absolutely. It is a wonderful activity and I think gives you a real connection and appreciation for nature. Plus, I know where my food comes from. Fresh, sustainably sourced, practically zero food miles, free and delicious. Perfect 👌🏻😊🍽
Ahhhh another cracking foraging - never get tired of watching these - thanks John and and Mrs Fish Locker - always look forward to your videos - appreciate your valuable time and how you engage with everyone - all the best for the coming weeks as I'm sure there will be changes ahead - adapt and overcome - keep up the excellent content - all the best to You and Yours - cheers
- You wouldn't believe the weather the following day. Bright summer sunshine. Haha. I'm about sick of this wind now mind. Need to get some fishing done!!
great video as always. I would love if You'd take a random subscriber fishing sometime. HINT I'm up for it :) I'm staying in Scotland so Im ready xd thanks for all your content, I'm watching every video and i'm learning from each one of them! Thank You Sir!!!
Mateusz Zdziebko - It is our pleasure Mateusz. And I do occasionally take people fishing, but I’m unsure of the legalities incase something happened and someone got a hook in them etc. I will look into it. 😉👍🏻
- Thank you very much, yes Mrs Fishlocker did an incredible job it really was delicious. I am simply sharing what I have learned fro a lifetime of being passionate about marine life - I am still learning every time I go out. :)
RedLaserEye - Here in the UK the urchins are pretty harmless. Unless you possibly trod on one in bare feet. And the anemones. Snakelock anenomes do have a sting, but these ones don’t. 😊👍🏻
I always love your videos! They are very informative, I've learned so much : ) Your lovely wife is a very good chef even if the clams don't want to be ate & jump off the plate! 💙 thank you
- It is our pleasure Jim. I am glad that you enjoyed our video and hope you find the rest of our content equally good viewing. Best wishes and stay safe. :)
Phil H - I never used to be. The same with balsamic and olive oil until a visit to Malta one time. Then I realised I just hadn’t tasted the real thing. 😉
- No problem Daryl. It is my pleasure. I share what I know, and if I'm unsure at all I will say so and then research and give you the answer. This is a learning experience for all of us. :D
I LOVE your foraging videos! I live in Pennsylvania in the US and I like going into the woods and finding mushrooms, and edible flowers and plants to bring back home with me. It's so amazingly interesting to see, through your videos, how foraging is like when you live near the sea. I learned so much from your videos already and it makes me excited for when I am again able to travel back to the beach. Superb content! Thank you and keep it up!! :D
- Hi there, I also absolutely love learning about the wildlife and plants in other places. Its so interesting isn't it. Lets hope that we can get out on the shore again soon. Take care and stay safe. :)
Great video and I know it was a long time ago but I went back to your bench hook pallet build and I made my own one from old pallets and it works great thanks and keep up the great work
Eric Murnane - Thanks mate. They are a really useful bit of kit for the workshop aren’t they. Best made out of hardwood but for a quick job any old scrapwood can do. 😉👍🏻
Your knowledge of all the flora and fauna leads me to believe you're a marine biologist. I love science and nature and you give this in spades with you videos. So glad I'm subscribed! Keep it up! You're doing an awesome job of teaching!
G Parish - I am just an enthusiastic amateur I’m afraid. When I was young I did wish to be a marine biologist my love for engineering took me down another path. So this is just a passionate hobby. 😊👍🏻🐚🦀🌿
@@TheFishLocker You would be an awesome marine biologist I think. I love your videos and the information you give on all the things you find... very entertaining and informative. You and your lovely family have a wonderful day. BTW, I live on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, US and love anything and everything marine life related... Salt Life!!! ;)
Thankyou John , it's been a long and stressful week. I work in a primary school and everyone is hyper vigilant at the moment, to unwind with you and your beautiful wife is indeed a pleasure😊 may you and your family stay happy and healthy. A great informative video as always.💚🐚🐡🐙🍃
- Our thoughts are with you Roxie, I cannot imagine that job is easy on a good day especially with everyone so tight wound at the minute. Thank you very much and I wish you and your family good health. Best wishes and have a great weekend. :D
I do enjoy your videos. The exploration on the beach/tidepools is interesting... always something new. And i really enjoy watching the easy of cooking a great meal that the ocean offers. Thanks for sharing.
- It is our pleasure Sir. I am glad that you could join me on the shore and full credit goes to my beautiful wife for the delicious meal she prepared. :D
I find myself coming back to your videos when I'm most miserably ill, because they are so calming yet engaging enough to provide me some much needed distraction from the pain. :) Not to say I don't enjoy these when I'm not ill! :P Just thought you'd like to know you're helping a chronically ill girl struggle through.
Jessie Yamada - That is the type of thing I always love to hear Jesse. I don’t mind how you found us, I’m just happy that you’re here. 😊 Welcome to our channel and I hope you enjoy the rest of our content. 😊🍽👍🏻
Benevolent Backpacker - Thank you, I am glad that you enjoyed joining me. I also find the shore really relaxing and yet fascinating at the same time. Best wishes and stay safe. 😊👍🏻
Great video again John..... Sorry but I did chuckle when the wife was presenting her lovely dish she'd just prepared and mid-speech a shell goes bouncing off the plate...🤣🤙
