On a day where a major tournament was happening to the North, I went South and enjoyed a quiet area all to myself. I found a great eating cobia and plenty of other fish to keep the morning busy.
Great video Glenn. I was trying to freeze the video to see if there was a large gaff mark back behind the jaw. Lol. That's where I lost my sister's nice cobia.
Mathew I didn't see any other marks on this one. The back hook of my lure was broken off in the corner of the mouth and the other hook got the fish on top of the head. Otherwise it was a pretty clean fish. They are incredibly tough, and sister's fish is probably still swimming around the area somewhere.
Thanks Glenn. She will have one more chance this year. lol. Headed that way this weekend. I'm going to try and get her on the Bob Hall rigs, helipad, and the Mayan princess rigs over the course of three days. @@wgmadden1
The cobia is awesome just love them but think all the planets will have to align before I can catch one again!?? The jigging rod your using, I’ve built a couple of my own but that builder I see put a hook keeper on the back side of the main guide??? least I think looking at the video? Awesome idea. Cheers Professor!
Cobia hit more often if I drop baits beside structure, but since the fiberglass kayak doesn't like the rig legs, I don't find them as often. I asked for a hook keeper opposite the first guide to keep hooks farther up the rod and away from my hands when grabbing the rod behind me.
Congrats on the Cobia! I still remember the trip where you caught 2 Cobia and some Kings. Your fish bag was so full I had to carry one of the Cobia back to shore for you! It was worth it when you gave me a slab off of that Cobia. For that tailless Jack I would have used my locking fish lip grips, I always keep them on a line tied to my vest. Have my pliers on another line just like you. Any reason you don't use the lip grips?
That was a good day on the water with a good friend, Ken! I lost a couple of good fish while playing with fish grips trying to get the fish hooked on, but as long as the fish has a tail I just enjoy doing it that way. The no-tail thing was new to me.
What kayak is that Glen. Haven’t seen an orange one before. You don’t happen to live right on the beach there. That would be awesome for quick trips. Cheers Mick from Noosa Heads Yakkers. About to get a 555 tomorrow so have been watching your other vids a bit. I know Rokkit Kit, but he’s on the Gold Coast. Met him at comps.
