@Salvage .. Thank for the reply .. Ops .. I missed typed ! I meant to say " Would you be interested in selling one " !! I have a President Washington 240 Channel and an Antron 99 .. I tried it out ( the radio on a 1/2 wave dipole ) about 7 years ago, to shake the dust out of it and got a QSO with an operator in France !! I must set it up with the Antron and give it a go.... What's the skip like now ? Back in the 80's here in Ireland during the night when the skip cleared you could get 30 to 50 miles on Side Bands, crystal clear with a high antenna ...
Beautiful radio! As my MK1 original sealed, boxed & standard. What gorgeous reports with the KPO NM532 power mic too. I was waiting years to buy the perfect radio, I think I got it :)
Oh the bucket mouthing I like it like old days in the 1980's. owned two Cobra 148 GTL-DX in the 80's sad that I sold it up in 1987 gone 10-7 :( Miss the days of the single side bands. The poundage meter they seem close near by.
To me it's a excellent radio once you've modified it, out of the box it's not brilliant, it was good in its day, a lot of romanticism associated with it, people had one or knew someone that did, couldn't afford one at the time, certainly wouldn't pay the kind of money these things cost at the time. About £400 in today's money. Today you can buy a new anytone 5000 for £165 new that covers 10,11 and 12 meter bands, 30 watts fm, close to 50 ssb, no drift, high swr warning, programmable and the standard mic is powered . Only difference is there's nobody on anymore lol Back in 1982, 83 I had a Rotel rvc 240, 40 channels nearly full of breakers, years later as people stopped using them, adding midblock became popular, people then started chasing for active channels as the UK 40 was dying off. I had so many rigs over the years I've forgotten, NATO 2000, Cobra 148, Stalker 9, Stalker xx Homebase, Harrier cbx and the Cbhq, " had less buttons on the Harrier Homebase than the mobile rig" always thought it was a sparse looking rig, fidelity 2000 and notorious 3000 Homebase, looked modern, but was crap, they made a radio alarm clock that looked almost identical to the fidelity Homebase. Uniden Homebase and mobile 40 channel radio's, galaxy Pluto, Lafayette 1600&1200, Amstrad c.b 900 and 901, Midlands both mobile and the huge Homebase they did.. I could go on, about 7 or 8 years ago I sold the lot on eBay, had about 20 old rigs at the time, 6 months ago a friend of the family got into c.b, I looked in my attic and found 2 sadelta desk mics, a midland mobile rig, various swr meters, 10 amp power supply and a summerkamp ssb rig, forgot I even had it, I gave all that away. 2 weeks ago I cleaned out my garden shed and found a Harvard Homebase, realistic handheld, another power supply.. Lol
Don't expect a reply Dale this Gentleman passed away a few years ago.. He was one of the best C.B. Techs ever.. If you source a un modified Original Cobra 148 GTL DX It will cost serious money.. Collectors pay 5 to 7 hundred quid.. Hens teeth mate ...
I have got a cobra 148 gtl dx I run a road devil astic power mic and I have a natto 2000 that I have an echo power Mike on my handle is Alcapone John I live in Rochdale Lancashire paul hope I can get you in Yorkshire good buddy 73s cheers and beers for now.
Dear sir: I have the Cobra 148. I am using a cigarette lighter to wall outlet adaptor (in the US) and was trying this at home. The adapter has power with the red light indicator, but there is no power on the Cobra. I have tried switching and twisting every button, but no improvement. What could be the predicament?
dear sir ....?? are you applying for a job or sumthin ? check the fuse.. if thats ok check the protection diode ( idiot diode) in the radio. but before all that, pull plug out radio and check your getting power with a multimeter
Puzzled as to why this radio , has not been carbon copied with quaility components ?? Would sell like hot cakes... The 148 GTL DX and The Teaberry Stalker 9 FDX were mustard... The surface mount shite today do not hold a candle.. Gotta cringe at the knuckle draggers talking shite on UK CB Channel 19 FM...
