Seeing this cobra cb radio does bring back a lot of memories, a lot of great times and a lot of entertainment as well. now back in the 90s and on the weekends late at nights we use to Cruise the strip, meaning riding up and down all night long on the main Street and taking turns talking to people on the radio. We always talked on channel 27 once in a great while we'll talk to the truckers and all that. Times do you go by fast today and that is for sure. Look how quick the 1990s came and look how fast they were gone, now we're in the year 2022. I so miss talking on a cobra radio cb.
Good video. Skip to 1:21 to start the actual lesson, and the 2:41 mark covers the ACTUAL calibration procedure. If you read your radio manual, it probably suggests you do this calibration technique on a couple channels...1, 20 & 40. I have done, not sure I ever saw anything different on the meters from channel to channel.
Stryker 10 Meter Radio SR-955HPC The best mobile radio I've ever owned! Lots of surprises and all good. I read extensively about it but the amazing filters were not mentioned. The receive is amazingly clear. Everything works and very well. Very happy new Stryker owner!
The Stryker is a 10 meter radio not a CB, if you have it modded to talk on the CB (11 meter) frequencies then you are running a illegal radio, do everybody a big favor and stay off of the CB frequencies.
It was until Uniden stopped making their boards and components. I have 6 modern 29 LTD's and looking at them and seeing the build quality I'm appalled since Cobra has been building their own. Cheapest parts known, hot glue everywhere, just overall crap IMO.
I have got Stryker SR-447 HPC2. Fantastic radio. I used quite intensely throughout every day of the week and gets worked over pretty good. It has been a great radio for me. It is smaller in size the cobra 25 classic.
That is fantastic! Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions that you might have. We are also happy to help with product recommendations. Wishing you a wonderful day!
ok for those who don't know, unless the board has been hacked up RF gain does nothing to your transmit power, it essentially amplifies receive signal so that you can hear weaker signals.
Great video. I wish you could post it 8 years before. Great communication skills +cb world. kindly give your review on SR-A10 CB Antenna. Best of luck.
I have a very first run production 29 ltd classic. The tune up pods are the same as the newer models but the board is way different from newer models. Nice video. 12ny waving.
Only a tuner should be the last thing in line so as to show amp output, you will need an SWR meter to measure the radio and a tuner to match the antenna to everything else. Suggestions vary according to what you are using, If you want to play with the big boys you need a SWR meter and an antenna tuner to go with that amplifier.
Unfortunately we do not ship directly out of the US, many of our UK customers place orders using Both a US billing and shipping address. Then have the package forwarded to the UK.
@@wearecb Yeah...shame...they would sell all day here. I get the odd gift from my family when it comes to radios... only time I get stuff from over there
They were very good when Uniden was building them with the UPD858 chassis, ever since Uniden and Cobra parted ways, Cobra radio's quality has gone downhill.
They are the toughest cb radio. Off road or doing things that will shake and jar the radio around the cobra is definitely the most robust. Both the 25 and 29. When it comes to sound quality I like the galaxy's
How much would you say one of these is worth? I got a 29ltd classic from a thrift store for $10 and a 25 from a thrift store for $5 I haven't tried setting them up yet but they power on and the display switches through the channels.
@@jordanlong00 if everything works and it looks decent....maybe 30 bucks. Cobra 29 classic is 99 bucks brand new. They are dime a dozen. Good basic radios and very popular. But not worth very much used
Thanks a lot man video was really helpful I just started driving on my own two weeks ago and I was having a problem with my radio I would have to be one car length behind someone or in front of someone in order for me to hear anyone so I had to adjust the range 👍👍🤙
I know it’s an older video but I just picked up same radio and I have no light for the cal needle area and the needle does not move when I attempt to calibrate. I ordered a new mic just in case but realized I should have a light for the needle area. Could this be caused by something internal bad. Thank you.
RJ Spitz yes correct, RF gain only effects the recurve signal. 99.9% of the time it's best to have the RF gain all the way up. Only if somebody is really close to you, and coming in at "30 pounds" or more, would you maybe want to turn the RF gain down.
best vid I've seen yet and I don't think I'll be watching any other on this topic. very informative, now I can undo my accidental screw up. thanks for sharing
Will you be doing a co-phase tuning set-up using a cobra 29 Ltd Classic, with 2 102 inch stainless steel whips. This is my set-up on a 2008 Toyota tacoma. Thank you for your time.
Negative, just a standard AM CB, if you want bells and whistles then this is the model you're wanting in the link below. www.wearecb.com/mckinleyii-am-fm-ssb.html
Hello! Repaired exactly the radio as you have in the video and rebuilt 0-5. If you don't mind, can I give a link in your comments to my video about this radio station?
the key up light says on because of the whip .i had the same coil on my anteena.on k30. so i just took the whip off the coil antenna.put back on the orginal k30.and got rid of the coil spring.works fine now the red light went .and my swr went to 1,5.where it should be at.get a little highter. on high on upper channels.i would say to you get rid of the coli spring..on your whip thats your problemm
I was wondering how much you could get out of a cobra after you tuned it all up and everything so if you know that I would greatly appreciate that first thank you Glenn Baker Lake Cumberland Kentucky USA
Thank you for going through that with me but I was wondering if it would be worse what they call fine tuning I know on the my Robin I got something like 20 watts out of it but I going in and fine tuning and I didn't know if you had fine-tuned your Cobra or not thanks for the info when you have a good New year
I bought mine BRAND NEW in 2007 at the Petro Truck Stop here in El Paso Tx. She is still in the box and NEVER used or touched. Would like to sell it ,just because I have too many radios and I could use the bucks! Thanks - Herb (aka The Boogeyman)
I have an older 29LTD I found in the trash, it receives but not sure if it's transmitting, meter doesn't move. I recall being able to use the PA function, haven't used it in a while
Okay good review but what about the antenna red light? In another video they were saying that if the red light comes on it means you have an antenna problem however they weren't specific as to what kind of problem. Im noticing it's coming on when I transmit on my cobra. Can you tell me what type of problem with the antenna it would be?
Have you tuned your antenna? Often times this is due to high SWR. Here is a link to our website with tuning information! www.wearecb.com/how-to-tune-cb-antenna.html
Thanks for the video! I have an older Cobra 21 and there are 2 wires (Red/White) Coming out of the small holes below the power plug. Do you know what these are for?
Red and white wires sounds like an audio function for you to connect speakers to just a thought not sure though, I know pretty much on anything car stereo, souround sound systems etc red and white are always associated with an audio function.
I owned one years ago and it was great , I would love to get another one but in newer vehicles it is impossible to find a place to mount one . in my case I own a 2011 ranger and a 2003 jeep wrangler. any ideas
after buying a new K30 antenna and a new cobra power mic. I set the swr calibration as you stated. Just like in the manual. most channels are below 3. a few are not. I don't receive very well and know one can here my transmissions. I had a guy say he can hear the mic key up but cant hear the voices. Do you have any suggestions that I might try?
What kind of external speaker would anyone recommend? I'm new to this and I actually have this radio on the way with a dipole antenna waiting to be installed in my attic. Thanks for your help!
I'm almost 100% certain RF gain doesn't increase your output, I'm no expert and i figured i was wrong so i googled it. Yeah according to all the articles I'm seeing the RF gain only Increases/decreases incoming signals.
You would be correct! RF is used as a synonym for "radio," in this case a CB radio. It describes the wireless communication of signals through the air rather than through wires like a plug-in home phone. Noise interferes with signals and it comes from the atmosphere, other nearby channels that overlap slightly, and environmental surroundings. To counteract noise, RF gain acts as a sensitivity filter. It reduces noise in the receiver without reducing reception power as a CB radio squelch does.
Dear Sheryl- we apologize for the delayed response. We have the owner's manual on our C29LTD product page in the attachments tab. Here is a link to our product page: www.wearecb.com/cobra-29-ltd-classic.html We hope that helps!
Hi my name is casey doss I had cobra 29 nightwatchman do you remeber them mine got stolen from my truck is there way I can get another one I think they cost like 300 bucks right me back thank you sir
Hey good video well i just bought this radio for my rig i installed 2 Truck Spec 54" 1000 W Helical Coil Antennas but I get the antenna light on all the time and testing it with another trucker he said he see's me keying up but no sound now both of these antenna wires are together going in to the radio i really don't know what to do.
Hi Leonardo! Have you tuned your antennas to your truck? If so, what are your SWR readings on channels 1 and 40? If you haven't, we recommend not transmitting until you know that your SWR readings are within an acceptable range otherwise you might damage your radio.
Sure! So long as you have one coax cable that connects the 2 antennas to the radio, you will only adjust one of the antennas...if you do find that you need to make any adjustments. Only adjust if your SWR readings show that you need to :) Here is a link to our Help Center that could help you: www.wearecb.com/how-to-tune-cb-antenna.html
On chanel 40 is about 1 and on channel 1 is about 1.5 the red antenna light keeps coming on when I press the mic, i tried it with another trucker and he said he could see me keeing but could not here me.
Ok...the SWR readings are decent/acceptable. Since you are still getting the antenna warning light, you will want to make sure that your system is properly grounded. This section of our Help Center could help you with that: www.wearecb.com/testing-cb-antenna-ground.html
Since you do have good SWR, it is likely that it is grounded properly but we just wanted you to make sure since this is very important. Also, it might be a good idea to use an external SWR meter to verify that your SWR readings are correct. When testing with the other trucker, verify that your Mic Gain and Rf Gain are turned all the way up. If it still doesn't work, you might try using a different microphone- it could be a bad microphone or something damaged in your radio.
We do not have a Cobra radio that is specifically designed to be a base station. However any cobra radio can be hooked up a power supply and an external antenna and be used as a base station! Let us know if you need any help with that!
Hi Ben- we would hate to recommend a product that we aren't offering since we do not know the condition of that radio itself. We offer them brand new for $109.95: www.wearecb.com/cobra-29-ltd-classic.html Echo boards and installation vary in cost. If it is a good radio and comes with the echo board already installed, it could be a good price but we would be wary. Good luck!
@@wearecb I have a adjustable mount and a little will antenna. I did put silicone around the base to keep the water out and I'm not going to run an amp I wish I still had my big antenna
Thank you for contacting us! We apologize- we do not currently offer services on used radios. We do offer our Peak & Tune Service on new CB radios that are purchased from us. We hope that helps!
