Hi Dave, I installed one on a 2008 Cobra LTD Classic and am dead keying 10 watts but only swinging to 50 watts at most, any idea why or how to correct that issue on this radio, it is a RFX 85 and I have tested it with 2 different meters, a dosy and a MFJ
Merry Christmas Mr 151. Hope all is well down south. Very nice buy. Like that 29 too Stay safe, and keep the videos coming. 73's Waving a hand from the snow banks in Southern Ontario 🇨🇦🇺🇲

Winner . ) I have long time Cobra 200gtl dx unlocked .. but this is simple but superefficient.... !!! 73!
Merry Christmas mower junkie. Awesome video as usual. I've got me a Cobra 29 LTD Classic also doesn't have the 75 watt amp built into it or the echo board but I sure love that radio. Take care brother!
A belated Merry Christmas to you, my CB radio friend! By the way, I'm celebrating two full years of being on the air now since buying the President Washington from you. You can hook that 29 up to a straight 4 pill and be rocking in what's left of the free world! :) Great video, as usual. Y'all have a great 2021!
I'm sure that rig is peaking at 75 watts. On those add on amps it is good to have a lower carrier due to heat. Find a rig that you like the receive on. Set that up as a monitor. Get some headphones and get some good listening in. You don't sometimes need any antenna on monitor rig if your antenna is close by. You can use a coax jumper or piece of wire in the center of the so 239 if signal is low on your monitor. To fix your stuck meters, loosen your tension screws on the meter movement. Works the best. You should make a 5/8 end fed with a matching system. Easy to do. It will help you with your local tx. Enjoy
Merry Christmas to you and family mr 151 . Please stay safe and keep well . Let's hope next year will be a better one for us all . Take care. Wr 456 uk. 73s. 👍
Hey mower junkie. Just picked up my first cb a new manufactured cobra 29 nw Ltd classic basically for emergency communications. I was told I should have got a SSB radio so I ordered up a galaxy dx 959 and an Antron a99 to get started.
Merry Christmas John. Thats a really nice bundle you have there. I wouldn't worry about the amp been slightly low on that 29 better to walk than run all the time. Look forward to more videos with other radios. Take care 337/ 015 UK waving
Merry Christmas to you and Barbera . Good looking radio . I would say if it's hitting 50 watts on average .. swinging well over 100 on the PEP feel good meter !
I love me a cobra 29. I got 5 or 6 of them sitting here. 55 watts average is pretty good I bet that would be over 75 peak watts. I would say you scored with that ebay buy! Merry Christmas!
Good deal I got burned a few times from ebay but without a cb shop what are you going to do nice job look forward to hearing you again 73s and merry christmas
It sucks, But it happens to all of us at some point. so far for Me, the good deals have out weighed the bad ones. Happy holidays Steve, Thanks for watching.
I was hoping to see more power from that amp. I have 2 Uniden PC76XL radio's. 1 does 40 watts, the other does 45 watts. That amp would've been a great upgrade if it did 75 watts.
I sure would like to get on the air with a new pair of shoes as cheaply as possible. What is the cheapest way to get just enough kick to shoot some skip? Trying to figure out a home built ground plane out of Romex or figure a way to properly attatch a tuning tip to a shortened SS whip I have and use it as a component for a ground plane. I have an old 29 that was still working in the pickup and a Cobra base unit with a bad speaker. Hoping for a salvage radio to fix that...so many projects...
More than likely with the radio having a low dead key someone use that radio to drive an amplifier. I myself have a 29 that is a competition version. Mine has a 1 watt dead key with a 45 watt swing. The good old Cobra 29 has been around for a long time
Is it allowed to use an Amp on CB Radio in the US? How much Power does a Stock CB Radio, or what is the max output Power out of the CB? How much Channels do u have in the US? Im from Germany and here it isnt allowed to use Amps on CB. Also forbidden is to modify your Radio in Output Power. We can change the Mic, Antenna or plug in an additional Speaker. We have 40 Channels on AM and SSB and 80 Channels on FM. Max Power on AM and FM is 4W and 12W PEP on SSB. A friend of me got caught by some Officers, cause of his use of an 40W Amp. They confiscated his Radio, Amp and Antenna. Also he had to Pay about 1500€ (~1850 USD).
Allowed? No, the FCC has a max of 4W for AM and 12W for SSB. That said, these united States were founded by people who believed in individual freedom had a hard time following arbitrary rules. That same spirit still exists today in the form of using CBs with amplifiers.
That's cool dead but I'd dump that blue light in meter put green or standard white back in it. Blue to hard on the eyes . Hey 25 watts carrier swinging to 50 is fine too. RFX kits cause sideband garb so since it's AM radio that'll be fine .
like your vids and i have a question i thought maybe you could help me with. I am trying to get my cb equipment back up and going my question is can i get by with rg8x coax cable for up to almost 50 foot run I wont be using any more power on it then the radio already has. at least not for now let me know what you think thanks or if anybody else can help me
@@chicocash9668 I have 4 base antennas setup, and they all have rg8x connected to them. If the run is 50' or less, rg8x will work great. Good luck with Your station. Happy holidays.
I stay away from eBay I'm not too happy with that place you got a lot of radios you can only use one at a time I learned that plenty of times I got two or three radios laying around and only use one I guess you could sell them though when you buy a used radio from eBay you don't know if someone put the golden screwdriver to it I just purchased a cobra142 gtl in a box like new was in storage and climate control it looks like it's never been used you don't come across too many deals like that the guy never used it obviously I found this deal on Craigslist
I had that idiot in Tucson instal 1 of those, also in my COBRA 29 , and I wasn't impressed 1 bit. He messed up the meter, and in doing radio checks ✔ people were giving me negative feedback 😒!
