He wasn't the bad guy but he wasn't always the good guy either and he is NOT innocent. The true bad guy is John Kreese and Terry Silver isn't far behind. Yes David (Kreese's bully), the Captain in the war, and Sensei Kim are all evil too but how Kreese and Silver acted and continue to act are true testaments as to how evil they are. Johnny, Chozen, and Mike Barnes have fought hard to right their wrongs of the past. Danny boy is SO ARROGANT with his holier than though attitude these days. I hope he learns a thing or two in the end and stays on top in a more humble way.
@@stevekov6740 I agree with that. I was just talking about one theory I had heard on a podcast. I actually like how they developed Johnny, Daniel, Mike Barnes, and Chozen into Allies. At the end of it all they were just four young vulnerable kids..
@@stevekov6740 kreese was actually the good guy, in that war he saved all his warmates, he was a warhero, and also there was a scene where he took a beating from a sensei to help a girl start getting karate lessons, he was only harsh on johnny cause he wanted him to be a winner and not feel bad about himself
There’s something about this scene I love so much. Johnny isn’t wrong in the way he explained it because you have to remember this was decades ago. He’s obviously going to remember the bits and pieces that affected him. The way that is shot, the emotion, the acting, the music. I just feel like this scene is too real. I usually don’t like watching reboots but this definitely is the best reboot I’ve ever seen.
Notice how Johnny just told Miguel to BE CAREFUL Around Daniels Daughter, didn’t restrict him from seeing her. Daniel flat out RESTRICTED Sam from having ANY contact with anyone who’s a part of Cobra Kai.
No one was correct in this situation they both were wrong : Danny stopping his daughter Johnny for hitting Daniel Thus what the guy who put the first comment is a hundred percent true ,Johnny didn’t restrain Miguel from going out with her even though he is extreme in the things he has done(almost drowning Miguel) yet letting him have his own choice in the matter
As a guy in his late 30s whose life hasn't worked out, this scene hit really hard. When you're young, you think youth will last forever and then when it doesn't, it can be too late.
I know all about life not working out as you plan. But I also know that Jesus Christ is there to pick up the pieces and help those who put their trust in Him. If you've never thought about doing that, I urge you to do so. It is the best decision and most important one all of us have to make.

Many times, just the thought behind the attempt is enough; cheers to you Richard. I will say, things are already going better after therapy which has brought back a lot of confidence
@@Pete_Finch I appreciate the kind words. Glad to hear things are going better for you. I imagine having a background in science and history might make it difficult for you to think about how Jesus Christ would fit in with all of that. But I would say, don't dismiss Him without looking into it for yourself. I have friends with doctorates in the science fields, with backgrounds in biology and chemistry who would be the first to tell anyone how Jesus Christ has changed their lives. As for me, I was very much a skeptic and a cynic when it came to religion. I saw the hypocrisies and it turned me off. But Jesus Christ is not about religion; He's about having a relationship with us. I would encourage you to take some time to study the Gospels and the New Testament and ask the Lord to show you if He's real. If you are willing to do it with sincerity and humility, He will make Himself real to you. And I'll tell you this - once you have an encounter with Jesus Christ, all the doubt and the skepticism just melts away. He is willing to make Himself real to all who seek to know if He is real. And He'll do that for you.
I just turned 22 a week ago and feel like I’m going to turn out this way in a couple years. I’m still living in my hometown, all my friends went on to college and I’m here working a damn 9-5. It sucks losing passion in the things you truly care about.
Allie wasn't worth it. I mean she dumped Johnny and went to Daniel, then dumped him for a UCLA football player. So both Johnny and Daniel got treated like shit by the same girl.
And you're surprised beeeecaaaaause.....? 🤣 Pretty sure she may have liked Daniel a little, but then when she found out it pissed off Johnny she wanted to date him even harder. She liked the bad boy and then went to the good guy, then got bored and moved on.
To be fair, people need to move on. She broke up with Johnny even before meeting Daniel. And eventually, she realized that she didn't actually like him and broke up. And Johnny WAS a bully...
Perhaps true though, even the bloke who played johnny admitted his character was the real bully along with his cobra kai karate posse within the original karate kid film
Your right! We get so caught up in Johnny the character, like hes real...not considering hes playing a character he last played 30 yrs ago! And doesnt skip a beat!
That's the beauty of perspective. Everything he says is true, but then everything Daniel says is true as well. Johnny had left Daniel alone for over two months, so why did Daniel douse Johnny with a water hose? There's no indefinite truth to this scenario and neither of them are saints.
I love this scene because it's a good reminder that these guys were both kids going through their own stuff and handling how someone their age probably would
No, it's to show that a narcissist believes they are always in the right, and go through mental gymnastics to believe it. Here he says expressly that "I went over to have a civilized conversation," to show he's protesting too much to believe it.
I love that he leaves out details and parts that make it look like he was wrong. Because that's what we do in real life too. Cobra Kai adds so much color and life to the entire series. It's crazy
He wasn't completely wrong though. Daniel was the one who provoked Johnny into beating him up after the hose prank even though Johnny had left him alone for months.
@@vetarlittorf1807 Johnny was indeed the first one to put his hands and attack Daniel by pushing him on the ground when Daniel was just trying to diffuse the tension between him and Ali after seeing things getting pretty physical between them. What Daniel did with the hose in all honesty was just an annoying prank situation warranted a good punch in the stomach after being caught honestly, not the type of beating which he got and it's pretty obvious that he wouldn't of done that at all if he already didn't have issues with Johnny which Johnny being the one that actually started it in the first place.
@@guess6635 all he did was push him it wasent Daniels business so he just told him to mind his business then started to try and attack him like he said
No, it shows how a narcissist will actually remember things in their own favor, by twisting them through mental gymnastics, as their messed-up ego does whatever it needs to do to protect itself. I've lived with narcissists before, and they remember things VERY differently than they actually happened; and will go doxing people with personal details that didn't happen just to humiliate them.
What I liked about this scene, is that Johnny's point of view makes perfect sense. When you look at the lack of a good father figure in his life, and the toxic influence of Kreese, how could he not look at all of this any other way?
yeah but don't put the blame on some else . like guy the kick was legal, otherwise daniel wouldn't have won . also johny didn't mention important things and made Dany the bad guy : Dany didn't know that he had just broke up with her, he just flirted with her ... and the they started liking each other. also johny did play some kind of dirty karate when he kicked dunys leg. but under the influence of kreese ... kreese was the real bully but that can't really justify Lawrence's actions . of course daniel did wrong things too. but he was always between the barriers:good and evil . if johny had a teacher like Miyagi he wouldn't be like that. kreese is the bad guy in my opinion
@@bluewavesdave Kreese was a violent guy who was allowed to become a monster through Vietnam. He’s never recovered and passed his toxic ways down to Johnny

They ran him off a hill on his bike, they planted a blueberry pie on his seat, and they started a fight against him at soccer practice. Eventually, Daniel decided he had enough and fought back. Johnny left out a lot of things, either conveniently or by design or by a really bad memory from all his drinking.
@@Jeff_Pryce No, that's just you being an apologist. Johnny left Daniel alone after the first week of school and had no interaction with him for a long time until Halloween when Daniel decided out of nowhere to soak Johnny. Otherwise he wouldn't have said "you couldn't leave well enough alone."
after rewatching the whole series because of kobra kai, Johnny bullied Daniel 3 times before Daniel did the water spray on him. At the beach, Soccer tryouts, and the hill push. The last one went too far but its still not like his doing any serious damage. the 1st too u can kinda see his point as the guy who is still not over his Ex. Daniel shouldnt have provoked someone stronger than him like when he sprayed water on him and after Johnny did leave him alone for a while. Whats even more dumb about the water spray incident is that Daniel could of just spent a great time with Ali at the dance instead of getting into dumb crap by antagonizing Johnny.

Cobra Kai is criminally underrated. Almost everyone I know says that it’s excessively dramatic and unrealistic. But it’s scenes like this that expands on Karate kid that make it 10 times more enjoyable
Of course it is! That's what makes it entertaining. It's all ridiculous. The actors and audience know this - but it's so well written you just settle in and enjoy the ride.
Well it pretty much is unrealistic especially when Silver gets reintroduced into the story but the writers are self aware how crazy ut is especially through Amanda’s dialogue. It’s a comedy drama anyway.
I watched the first episode (only after my son and sister wouldn’t stop hounding me to). As an original Karate Kid fan, I was just subconsciously opposed. With the extreme cheese of it, I almost turned it off, but something made me hang in there. Probably Johnny. By the end of the second episode, I was hooked. By the second season I’m texting my sister at 3 am mid binge asking where the heck is Miyagi’s Purple Heart and yea by the no mercy finale fight, I was officially hooked, watched it all almost twice and about to buy a Cobra Kai hoodie. 😂 Just saying it’s probably the best series ever made. 🤷♀️
This is what I love about the series, it took old characters from the original Karate Kid movies, and added layers and depths to them. Even for shallowly written characters. Back then Johnny to us was nothing more than a bully. A spoiled rich brat. We never saw this side to him.
@@marrychrismas306 I think karate kid is the right side of the story. Even in here he says Daniel attacked him out of nowhere but we can see Daniel on the ground
Now, remember, at the very beginning, Johnny was planning his future, moving on into life, make something of himself, and then this happens. There's an honor to johnny.
@@bradd9326 Daniel is not the bully daniel never started the fight johnny said daniel just sucker punched him when he was trying to tell daniel to butt out but that is not true daniel was doing the right thing johnny was being a coward and pussy abusing ali so daniel stood up for her then johnny did not like that so he striked first but then blamed it on daniel.

The Own - I don't think he's doing anything wrong in the series... He's actually helping the kids you say could commit suicide. And Daniel just wouldn't let the past be the past.
The entire time, Johnny still feels like a victim despite his aggressive actions in the film. These kids are now the very thing they were against. You even see this. They are promoting violence, no mercy, unfair fighting, lack of sportsmanship. You even see this with the fat girl and "Hawk". They've all become the people to bully people into what they want. But again, you don't see what these kids are. Again, bully mentality.
Johnny has improved so much from Season 1-4. I love seeing the bond he has with everyone around him. From Miguel to Daniel to Sam even to Robby at the end of Season 4. You can really understand why Johnny turned out the way he did. With his family and with the negative influence from Kreese. I know that he shouldn’t use that as excuse but I felt bad for the guy. I can’t wait to see what Johnny brings and with how he’s gonna do with Robby . Hopefully, it’ll be great.
I think that his character went too far on things but, in reality : he would have likely been a dangerous criminal stalker individual behaving like that though, in my opinion : in the film he's supposed to be alright
It's an age old question..."who was right?" and it will never be solved, that's whats makes it so great lol. He's making solid points but so did Daniel. That's whats makes this classic, always. Damn this is good man!

@@OneHotSkittleKarate Kid 1 makes it pretty clear cut who was in the right morally. Daniel was the obvious victim and Johnny was just a bully. Doesn't help him with the fact that Daniel also does nothing to deescalate the situation. (Ali is the only one that tries and fails to put a end to the fight.) Daniel resorted to fighting a losing battle over a girls radio whom he just met minutes prior to the fight which he gained nothing from. 3. "Daniel finally got his revenge with the hose." You know when you break it down Cobra Kai is about 2 middle age men that still have insecurities from the 80s and cant let go of a rivalry about a girl that dumped them both and then go at it again for no reason except that their both that insecure. Lol
Daniel was over Johnny and cobra kai. His reaction was a reasonable one. He knew what cobra kai stood for. Plus, all of Daniels concerns and worry’s came to pass. Johnny is still the bad guy here. What the hell did he think would happen teaching children to start fights and have no mercy would mean. Spoiler: you get a total piece of shit
People are not going to pay attention to this scene but something about it was amazing. I love the background song and the emotion of his thoughts of Ali and Larusso. I really think Ali will come back for 2 to 6 episodes to complete the story between the two or maybe extend it.
I dont really want Ali to come back... she's married now. I would like to see Johnny pursue a new relationship and grow as a character....that would be awesome
I mean I think it would be fine and even better if she came back for just an episode or two. Also he mentions or thinks about her many times this season it is reasonable.
Elisabeth Shue is an old hag, she looks like she's about 70 now. Gone are those fun days of me alone for 5 minutes with my tube sock, thinking about her in Hollow Man and Leaving Las Vegas.
William Zabka is absolutely brilliant in this series. And Johnny's "recollection" of events here that persuaded Miguel to believe Johnny was the actual victim is downright hilarious. 😂
When they included this in the show I couldn't stop laughing as it isn't often they incorporate stuff that crops up online into shows or movies that are actually about that. That and Barney from How I met your mother making it even more of a pop culture thing. This show is the best nod to fans of the movie and is so well done that it is one of the few things that actually continues a story and does it with respect while not taking itself too seriously.
He's a guy with a certain character which he doesn't see as "problematic" because he hasn't been taught otherwise. He's just relaying the story as he remembers it. He's not lying. He just doesn't hasn't learned "perspective" and "empathy" and that colours the memories a bit. He's the rocket straight from the 80's. You must remember that Johnny is a loner. He was taught by dubious father figures and a friendship circle just like him, so he was in an echo-chamber all throughout his teen and adult life. After that, he went through life alone- never really learning anything other than how he was brought up. He remained a 16 yeard old kid, UNTIL Miguel walked into his life and he got the first real introduction to what life is like or look like, from people who have been brought up differently. This opens up a whole new phase of learning as Miguel causes him to be more and more exposed to things, people and viewpoints he never really encountered or experienced- and that's what changes him. He finally grows up and goes past 16.
Pure bull. Where do people invent this kind of mess from? "Remained a kid until 16...." Talk about taking some liberties. People either read to much into it, or not enough. Very few get it right.

The show was dishing out red pills from start to finish. The last episode featured a confirmation of a similar point when the geeky kid said: "I can not believe this (being a 'bad boy') actually works"
As a woman, I have to recognize bad boys have something special, BUT I don't agree with the statement that women like to be treated like crap. We don't like to be treated like crap (I would hate it so much that I wouldn't feel attracted to the guy at all), we may like bad boys who are bad boys with OTHER PEOPLE, but never with us. And yes, I know that sounds like a complete lack of empathy and reeally selfish, but I'm talking about attraction, not about reasoning. I mean, in real life, I would NEVER be with a bad boy.
Lol Man - The fat girl has a name, and I don't see what's your problem about her. My only problem about her is I don't think it's realistic the fact that she competes in the same tournament as her males mates. She should compete in a female tournament. MrColuber - I'm software developer and I love the series. So, I'm PC culture and I don't dislike it. In fact, we're talking about a RU-vid series ¬¬. The fact that Johnny is so anti PC doesn't mean we can not love the character anyways XD.
Probably my favorite scene of both seasons. I just love the background song in this scene and you can feel the heartbreaking nostalgia of Johnny and how his life before Karate Kid began was the peak of his life. Cobra Kai has been a great show overall but I really hope in Season three they don't go way Hollywood and cheesy like I kind of feel in Season 2. Season 2 was nice but for me it felt like they are going way too dramatic and also going off Johnny's story path for my opinion. I still love it, but just thinking with the show coming back to Netflix and rewatching scenes, that the show's strength is in Johnny's story arc and path. I just hope they don't focus too much on that Miyagi Do and that love triangle shit. The show's action scenes were always a bit over-the-top, even in Season one, but I just hope they don't have to do a full-blown Hollywood fight scene like the last episode. But still a great show and hope they keep everything in place.
Even though Johnny was one of the bad guys in the 1980's, the two saddest parts of the whole thing is that Johnny was being manipulated by Kreese and both Johnny and Daniel loved Allie even though it was all for nothing. I would not be surprised if Allie becomes another villain later on.
He didn't exactly defend himself as they were both at fault. Johnny by starting the fight by shoving danny down with the radio and then proceeded to taunt danny and danny perhaps was scared johnny was on his way to stomp him nevertheless, johnny still had the legal right to keep the beach fight going
How was johnny a hero? Johnny in the later seasons sure, but I’m terms of his overall character and life, you shouldn’t really aspire to become that. His personality I can agree more men should try to have his attitude but what he’s done, no one should do the things he’s done
@@Suzanne-t3l damn bro you’re replying to a comment from 8 months ago? 😂 Well let’s see, he bullied a kid in high school, he beat up minors, I understand the minors that he beat up were jerks but it is still a crime, he beats up one of Daniel’s employees in public, he abandoned his kid (Robby) when he was birthed, and he reopened cobra Kai to teach a kid karate not because he actually wanted to teach karate, but because he couldn’t stand the thought of his high school rival (Daniel) being more successful than him, that is extremely petty of him. He also acted like a jerk when his high school rival, the guy he bullied, decides to do a nice gesture and fix his car FOR FREE. Do I have to go on or did that answer your question? Patrick Elizabeth shirt is being annoying and saying she doesn’t wanna come so u can forget it. Never rly liked her id prefer kumiko returns w chozen. I like that storyline more than the Johnny one. But then again this is cobra kai
They could get a totally different actress that looks similar to Liz shue and pretend she's allison if they wanted - even she doesn't agree - they've done it plenty of times in episodes of other shows and movies - don't think a direct law against it though, nothing beats the original
I don't understand how their rivalry resumed...Johnny appeared as gaining respect for Daniel, quit Cobra Kai under Kreese due to nearly being strangled to death...and now they're back to their little cat fight...guess that's story plotting for you...
I think it's a middle age looking back thing - Johnny looked at the tournament as defending champ as his chance for a better life and sees very clearly Daniel as having a life similar to what he wanted for himself. And Daniel wasn't exactly sweet in their reunion after so many years - he was as cocky as we'd expect a guy who believed what he touches turns to gold. Remember too Miyagi is long dead - and Daniel too is the worse for it. He's seeing his own limits - Sam won't listen to him nor his son. Mandy pretty much owns him. And no one cares for his bonsai trees other than him - they aren't a gimmick for him but the world sees them as such. So Daniel too is trapped in some past glory while he has lost touch with Miyagi's teaching.
I wouldn't say it made him look like a victim, more like it made him look like an actual complex human being, with both good and bad inside of him, instead of a completely bad, one dimensional, spoiled brat, 80's bully, which is how the first movie made him look, because he was that movie's antagonist.
@@MrChris-zb2bs yeah that’s one thing I liked about Johnny’s character. Unlike other characters, he didn’t insult miyagi once. i think he still appreciates the fact miyagi saved him from kreese choking him at the end of the first film.
As someone who was bullied frequently in high school, I have to say that Johnny is surprisingly accurate here. Bullies never THINK they're bullies; they always have some form of rationalization and/or self-serving memory that allows them to see themselves as the hero. Not only that, but abusive behavior is never inborn; it's LEARNED, either from a toxic teacher/father figure (like Kreese) or by having been abused themselves. Either way, the bully is conditioned to see abusive behavior as normal and perfectly acceptable, and as that's the only way they know to interact with the world, they can't see how they're in the wrong. It takes a long time, a lot of introspection, and a SERIOUS wake-up call to get them to see the light, and S1 is that journey for Johnny. I love how at the end of the season, you can see that moment of epiphany as he realizes he's turned his students into mini versions of himself--which was the LAST thing he ever wanted for them--and is clearly horrified. You see his journey from still being in denial to taking his first steps toward full redemption.
It's so ironic that Ali was the main reason Daniel and Johnny had there rivalry and ended up fighting and the same thing happens with Samantha with Robby and Miguel girls man nothing but trouble 😂😂😂
"My life was great but then these guys from Hollywood turned my life into a documentary in 1984 they followed us around for two months and after the movie came out with the title The Karate Kid everyone hated me and loved Daniel."
Both Johnny and Daniel had insecurities and because of them, they were jerks to each other. When you think about it, its understandable why johnny hated daniel.
The fact people say Johhny wasnt the bully when he literally said to Miguel he wasnt taught the difference between mercy and honor and he payed the price for it, shows he realize what he did
Are there any shows or movies that have gone as far as this one to 1) unmistakably point out SJW talking points, 2) spit in the face of them AND 3) go on to show the value in a return to "strength, dismissal of pain, refusal to be a victim, striking hard and striking first" as virtues? Has Cobra Kai set precedent here?
Finally!! A show that pulls the piss out of SJW values. Why? Because they're ridiculous and this show ain't about pussies, it's about manning up and giving back worse than you get.
It doesn't actually show point 3 in all that positive of a light. Striking hard and striking first is actually what resulted in the once bullied kids into becoming bullies themselves. They strike hard and first even when the situation doesn't call for it. Miguel trying to punch Robby and accidentally hitting Sam, Eli/Hawk getting disqualified for kicking and injuring Robby in the tournament. Very much "he who fights monsters"
Allie was a piece of shit but in Johnny's defense Daniel should have minded his business. The way Johnny explained it he was really the victim in this story.
