In 2016/2017 this ride closed I think due to mechanical difficulties however, there is one last intamin stand up Shockwave at Drayton Manor at Stratfordshire in the UK.
@@brandonseto4524 Yeah Walter Bolliger and Claude Mabillard worked for Giovanola, which was sub-contracted by Intamin to make the track, and obviously they left Giovanola to form B&M.
This was initially sold to and used by an amusement park in Sweden, called ”Stand Up”, later torn down and shipped to La Ronde. Best position riding this roller coaster was last row facing backwards. Was only allowed first year though.
This is being sent to six flags great america, i was shown a map of 3 locations at six flags great america in the shape of a rectangle and it shows possible queue entrances, i think one is over by the american eagle it shows a bridge the goes behing jonny rockets, the other is across from jonny rockets in mardi gras, they would have to build a queue that goes over the serivace road and the roaring rapids, it would be surounded by trees, the other one is on the other side of the log rides in yokon teritory. I was also told that it will not be repainted so prepare for a riddlers revenge or a nother green lantern stand up
funny i distinctly remember you could hear the sound of this coaster trough the entire park, it was wierd to not ever hearing it again after it was removed.
Batman The Escape. It's sitting in storage at Darien Lake in NY now. Most of the coasters were sold for scrap, a couple went to other SF parks though, including Ednor here at La Ronde.
MrTNT6000 I think that’s due in part to the fact That the two people that originally created b&m previously worked for intamin, and borrowed assets until they contracted their first ride: Iron Wolf EDIT: I believe that my original statement was false. I now believe that the two people responsible for B&M originally were employees of Giovanola, another company that has ties with Intamin.
C_ no your first statement was correct. 2 guys named Bolliger and Mabillard left Intamin with their track design. Giovanola produced the track for them, then decided to make there own 2 rides.
People find stand up coasters harsh because they don't even do what you are supposed to do: STAND UP. Look at the people on the ride as it leaves the station: they are all resting their body weight on the bicycle seat. Thats not the intention, its just there so you don't go flying out the coaster. Put all your weight on your feet, and the ride is way better.
Shame they didn't see or do a floorless (or sit down) conversion, ik this is the whole gionvolola/half of B&M/intamin era of working with this kind of track, but it "looks like" a B&M stand-up and it's a shame it's scrap metal like shockwave/batman the escape ended up too. They'd be fine coasters if they weren't stand-ups.
I don't know why everyone complains, I went on it once and really enjoyed it. But it's worth notice that I'm a woman xD Rip Le Cobra, you didn't try to make me throw up.
Do u know when it reopens because I plan to go to La Ronde on the 1st or 2nd of the next month and i love that ride and yes someone died there buts its not like he was on the ride and I have rode that a few times and Im pretty sure its safe.
No this ride debuted as the Stand up at Skara Summerland. The Shockwave is another coaster as the same model. After six flags magic mountain the Shockwave went to six flags great adventure, then to six flags Astroworld and now I think it's in Darien lake's parking lot but I'm not sure.
Giavanola/Intamin built this ride and already had ''B&M'' track. Then Bolliger & Mallibard left Giavanola/Intamin and continued using their box track, better know as B&M track.Technically,B&M is using Giavanola track since they worked for them first.
Nope Intamin AG. Walter & Claud actually worked for Intamin AG at the time this ride was created, that is why it looks like a B&M. The first one of its kind was the Shockwave at Magic Mountain in 1986. B&M formed in 1988.
+Rob's Rides B&M didn't work with Intamin but With Giovanola instead and also Intamin. The rail style was in fact create by Giovanola and B&M was created, they retake the rail styles and used them as their main rail and Intamin got their own rail styles.
Yeah!, that's what it was. It was at Six Flags AstroWorld, I can't believe I forgot about that place. I spent my whole childhood there, and now it's gone :(. Oh well, I live in Cali. now, and there is a better amusement park (Six Flags Magic Mountain.) I remember people would just go to Six Flags Over Texas after Six Flags AstroWorld closed.
I'm still pissed that this is the only roller coaster there that I have never ridden, and I had the chance to a few years ago. Missed a good credit there.
I rode something exactly like this when i was a kid in Texas. All I know is that a year after I rode it, the amusement park shut down, and was completely gone.
Yeah it was astroworld. As a matter of fact, this is a relocation of Batman at the park I just mentioned. Unfortunately they recently closed it permanently Rip batman
+DoopSnogg Actually Intamin and B&M never partnered since B&M didn't exist in the 80's. Actually, it's Intamin and Giovanola that partnered in the 80's and the creators of B&M worked with Giovanola wich were the ones who invented the Box track for roller coasters.
End of the Road for the Cobra, it is being dismantled to make room for a new rollacoaster in 2018
both Bolliger and Mabillard worked for Intamin before their own company which is why intamin had this track for a few rides, same reason giovanola had a few rides with similiar track as well.
