I decided to make a video on installing the Cobra PowerFlo on a V Star 950 since I couldn't find any video tutorials. This is my first tutorial, so I hope it makes sense. I left in my mistakes so everyone can learn from them. In the beginning I go over the tools and and sockets you will need. I know I had to go buy a Metric Allen Socket set.
Enjoy!

I bought a v star 950 that had the cobra slip-on and the fi2000 O2 already on it. I just upgraded to the Power Flow and it sounds even better. I can feel a performance difference, and I think with all three components on it it looks, sounds, and feels great.

Hello. Do you still get quite a bit of decel popping with the cobra slip on and power commander?

Hey Chris, Thanks so much for this video. I just installed mine today (10/13/20) and if it wouldn't have been for your video I would have had to call Cobra and get the instructions. No foam and no instructions in my box but everything was sealed. LOL Thanks from Michigan

Great video! Ivans flash for ECU will stop ALL popping and give you even better throttle response among other improvements. You can ask anyone that has done it.

Great tutorial. I just installed the other circular Cobra Air Intake with the K&N filter. Install was very similar. I ended up having to replace the button head screws (1/4 20 x 1/2) with other hex head screws that won't strip out. Also the threading wasn't quite right on the stock screws. Thanks for posting. I would definetly get the FMS. It'll make your bike run like a completely new bike.

Thanks for the compliment! I ended up getting the PCV installed on my bike with the auto tune and I love it. My bike runs like a champ and I have it tweaked so I still get great MPG while cruising!

I have a Cobra PI 2000 OR FI 2000 R with stock intake and I set the 3 pods to what the rep said was optimal formy Shogun racing straight exhaust. I get 70 plus mpg. But I'm thinking about this intake system wondering if I could get a noticable amount more MPG.

Hi Chris , I know its been 4 years since you installed the cobra powerflo , I just installed mine on my v star , my question is what do you do when riding in the rain ? do you cover it with something ? Thanks bro , great vlog Cheers pierre
@theirishmahoney
@theirishmahoney 6 лет назад
No worries! It was something I was concerned with after I installed it as well. After a couple killer storms, I checked the filter and there was a small section at the bottom and front that you could see the oil was starting to fade. I just sprayed a little oil on the filter in that spot and was good to go. Granted, I would only ride 20-30 minutes in a hard rain, but I wasn't concerned about it after that. There is a drain hole at the bottom of the housing and the rain didn't ever bog down my bike, so I assume most of rain drained right out.

Very nice tutorial video, did you ever do the follow up installing the Cobra PowerPro?
@theirishmahoney
@theirishmahoney 8 лет назад
+Chris Schroeder Hey Chris, I did not do a video on that sad to say. The install was fairly easy once you take the stock pipes off. The best advice I can give is to install everything and not tighten down any bolts until the end. If my memory is right, you'll start to tighten everything from the headers down. Blue painters tape will be your friend as well so you don't scratch the pipes as you install them. A quick review for you: I've had these pipes for almost two years now. I haven't lost much low end that I can tell from the pipes thanks to the 2-into-1 design, they are much louder than stock or even the Cobra slip on I had. I would describe it as I don't need ear plugs messing around in the city, but for a longer ride, plugs would be welcomed. The pipes have a lower tone to the sound now, so I don't feel like I'm riding a lawn mower. Over the past two years, they have become louder, I'm guessing the baffling is breaking down and the baffle needs to be re-wrapped. But if I remember right, when I got them, I wasn't wanting ear plugs, so it might be the baffling is shot. Would I buy them again? If money was a concern, in a heart beat, I think I paid $400 for them. If I had more funds, I would like to try the Vance & Hines Big Radius 2-into-2. Let me know if you have any questions, I'm happy to help!

This video will likely help some, but if you're handy at all Cobra's instructions are more than adequate to install on the 950 v-star. You should be able to have it installed in minutes.

Just installed this on my Fury. It was definitely a bigger pain in the ass than yours. The back rear screw is smashed up against the V-twin, so it makes it near impossible to get a full snug fit. It's not loose, but it makes me kind of nervous going forward.

I'm curious as to how much better the bike ran after you finished all of the upgrades? Was it worth the cost?
@theirishmahoney
@theirishmahoney 4 года назад
I'm in Colorado, so it helped the bike a lot with the altitude. It wasn't 'sluggish' off the line (not that it was ever really sluggish) anymore. Better acceleration at speed too. Didn't notice any better or worse has milage as long as I didn't go full throttle of the line, which was really hard not to.

I realize this is an old video but, I wanted to ask if you have any loud knocking sound from your intake?
@theirishmahoney
@theirishmahoney 7 лет назад
Hey John, I haven't had any knocking from the intake. You will hear the valves more with the intake, and if you have this bike, they are loud enough. You may want to put the stock intake back on to see if the sound is still there...
@johntoob
@johntoob 7 лет назад
I have the same filter that you do but only have the spoke chrome cover which means the filter is naked so to speak. I think the powerflo housing might be deflecting the loud sound forward. I did re-mount the stock housing and the sound disappeared. Thanks for getting back to me so fast.
@theirishmahoney
@theirishmahoney 7 лет назад
I have the feeling you're just hearing some top end noise. I'd be concerned if you heard it with the stock air box on. No worries!
@johntoob
@johntoob 7 лет назад
I hear you about the top end noise it's just that the filter style with no cover is just as loud as my cobra slip-on when accelerating. Sounds terrible. Sadly "Parts Giant" won't let me return it. I'm now out $200. Thanks for your time.
@frashr
@frashr 6 лет назад
John, it's "probably" the breather valves you hear knocking - tock-tock-tock-tock can be alarming the first time you hear them with a less restrictive air intake (which also allows noise to come out of the throttle body). If you're not sure have someone look at it.

Did you ever get the fuel management controller?
@theirishmahoney
@theirishmahoney 6 лет назад
I did, I ended up installing the Power Commander 5. I also installed the WideBand O2 for it so all I had to do was program in the Fuel/Air ratio I wanted to hit and the computer would take over and adjust everything on the fly. That was super helpful riding in the mountains as I went up and down in elevation. Plus it was fun to pull out the laptop to tweak the settings to how I wanted. I programmed mine with a ton of power at WOT and conservative at cruising speed to keep my MPG up.
