This cover was recorded between 30 August 2010 and 1 September 2010 as part of The Fuego Series, released early 2011. NO drum replacement or triggering was done in this series, what you hear is just a mixed version of a 100% acoustically produced track.

Whattt an epic song! Sheesh. I find that the covers people respond to most are the most sincere and passionate ones, regardless of any other external factors. I absolutely LOVE this song, and apart from the very "new-age" message, This Is War is a melodically monstrous album. Increeeedibly fun and expressive songs to play along to.
An interesting note.. we reskinned the kit right before we started recording, so the skins naturally went out of tune a little, and we had to keep an eye (ear?) on them. The snare, on the other hand, completely went out of tune towards the end of No More Sorrow (which was recorded right before this) and we only noticed it at the end of the recording of Vox Populi. This was a huge problem since I was too tired to try and "replicate" my first REAL performance, but since I've mixed MUCHHH worse recorded audio, I was brave enough to give it a go :) That's why this snare tone is completely different than the rest of the series, much less tone and resonance and MUCH more attack. It fits the song incredibly well, though, for which I am super super grateful.

Many people continue coming back for the final tag in this song, but I always will be back here to listen to him go crazy on 4:45. The straight forward beat is not in the original and I've never heard a drum cover add to to a song more perfectly. Every time I hear Thirty Seconds original version, it's always as perfect as ever except for that final little beat on the chorus. It needs 4:45 to be complete.

The reason so many love Cobus' covers is not because he has insurmountable talent. He is skilled, sure, but his technique, his demeanor behind the kit, they're all so professional and so fun to watch. His covers are very clear, consistent and creative, unlike most of the other drummers on RU-vid, which is why I and many others like Cobus. Keep up the good work!

This is by far my favorite cover that you've done. Not because of the layering, which is awesome, but because no part of this is really complex from what I can tell. It's pretty straight forward on what you're playing. And for a song like this, that is beautiful. You don't have to over complicate tracks to make them sound great. Sometimes it's just about the simple beat, and the passion of the song that makes it huge.

I've watched Cobus's videos for about 8 years now.. I've seen every cover he's put out and to date none of them fill me with such emotions as this one. His double-timing of that last chorus gives me goosebumps and even tears every single time!

No offence but what would you actually know? I'm pretty sure you can't go learn drums like he did. He's one of the few young people who can just learn to play drums by ear which is a feat in itself and he has amazing skill in what he's doing and what he loves to do. He overplays because he wants to bring his own uniqueness to what he plays. I'm learning the same way he did and i'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to

I have to agree with EpicFail, he takes a song and incorporates his own style into it seemlesly...He's self taught and has this degree of talent and skill (Which is actually quite rare) And he plays by ear, which coming from personal experience (Since sheet music just confuses me) can be something insanely frustrating and difficult. So it's kinda his right to act as if he's amazing because i don't see you doing any of this

i know this is an old comment but where is the substance in your claim? They guy has solid technique, great handspeed, crisp coordination, creative fills, and most importantly, knows how to incorporate his style into a song properly and not make it sound out of place. I model my drumming after him, and im as good as my buddy who has been play 3 years more than me using the conventional sheet music + lesson style. I just play by ear, which he does.

Considering you said this only 2 months ago that's probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen someone on RU-vid post. Seriously. What makes you think he thinks he's better than he is? If you actually ever see him speak he always takes the spotlight off himself. He's one of the most modest drummers out there. If by "act like a tool" you mean he has a personality, yeah, and it's admirable. Saying he's not a big thing is foolish. Do you see where he's going? Why don't you look at his YTBP.

Well, it's basic compared to Cobus' usual kit. An average beginner's/basic drum kit consists of: a snare, bass, hi-hat, crash, and between 2 and 3 toms. The drum kit in this video is above basic because of all the extra cymbals. My first drum kit was a basic Yamaha 5-piece kit (bass, snare, 3 toms) with a hi-hat and 16" crash. All this plus an extra ZBT 20" Ride cost me $375 used. The kit in this cover probably cost at least a grand.

I don't know if this was already figured out or not, but I think the reason Cobus's vids are out of sync with the timing are because the more times you click on a particular segment to watch it again, it becomes more and more out of sync. Because when I watch round 1 of the video after looking it up on youtube, there's no problem with the syncing. But when I click on specific spots to go back and watch it again (because his awesomeness requires more than a first gander,) syncopation is lost.

I can see thee rhythm of the beat flow through you, i'm more of a singer myself, but i can tell you that if you were in my band we'd be so much better, our drummer right now is good, but he doesn't play with the passion you do. I can see the pulse that runs through your body, you play with your soul, not your body. Your an amazing drummer, and i can say myself from someone who has been through 6 drummers in the last year since our original died (may God bless his soul) Your the best I've seen...

It's not easy being able to contain yourself when you have as much talent as that guy. Everyone just wants to be heard man, it just comes off as egotism to some. But you can't let that form your opinion about him simply based on that. Because he really is a great drummer. No not the best, but pretty darn great.

There wasn't a time when this had 50,000 views, because all of his videos past the Nexus series have hit the three hundred and something views mark on the counter, and RU-vid had to freeze it to verify that all of the views were legit. COBUS, One of these days could you please do a drum cover with just the basic stripped-down drum kit? Some of your jealous viewers think that your talent comes from your kit and you are no good without your huge kit. @GodScoutSavage this guy isnt bad but i have seen better. but metal is a whole different thing. kids like when guys smash their drumkit? its just the whole show behind this what makes this succesfull. Cobus is not in all his covers at his best but you can see the viewers like it. i have respect for all drummers even if theyre good or bad but its what u like.

I look to his covers for inspiration, and I wish I could post videos of myself drumming, because RU-vid is the best and worst place to get criticism.
