I couldn’t wait to grow up when I watched this - wanted so much to be like one of the couples in the advert 😔 Now I’m 38 and I know the magic was then, at that time, and not where I thought it would be when I was 8 🤧
I haven't heard this song since my childhood and the minute it started playing a few minutes ago I started to cry 😂 wtf this is some strong ad power. The singer also sang our german Mc Donald's song in the 90s, so her voice has an extreme effect on me 😆wooow
my all time favorite coca commercial, I was in my elementary years when this commercial first seen on TV. and now I'am 39 and seing this again made me sad, Time flies so fast.
I'm french, 21yo in 88, and my so lovely girlfriend of these times was the perfect clone of the girl at 0.12. Same face, same haircut, Miss these good old days.. I remember so much my opel manta and this reclame on the cinema where i've worked..
It's funny I just found this ad this month, never seen it before but yet it takes me to a place and I actually feel like I'm in the 80s, as a 90s kid Im really attached to the music from that era but maaan the 80s sounds deep too
1988....i was 16 then, a college freshman. life was so much simpler & raw; no physical distancing; no pandemic. wish there is a time machine that can transport me back to that era.
I loved this commercial so much, I stood by my VCR in 1984 ready to hit the record button. Must have recorded this over and over about 20 times so I could it just watch it again and again. Never thought back then there would such a thing as RU-vid. :-)
@@PatchMeThru2CTU good grief, your comment sums up why we loved the 80s when there were no people like you. Utter rubbish - there were plenty of black celebrities then front and centre of this decade.
@@thecat2587 Fair enough. My comment was a flippant pun, I did not mean to condemn the whole eighties and everyone that likes this ad. I loved the ad, it is brilliant. I love my memories of the eighties. It was just my reaction when I rewatched it. You raised "there were plenty of black celebrities" - What has that got to do with this ad? The aim of the ad to show snap shots of those special moments growing up. In 1 min, 23 scenes and with 52 actors, Coke made the decision to cast it the way it did. If the worlds largest drinks company remade this today - i think some different decisions would be made. Anyway, as i said, I loved the ad, i still love the song.
@@PatchMeThru2CTU You were making a reference to it being "all white" and then referred to it being "how bad things were". How are we supposed to reply to over emotive comments like this? Coke did plenty of ads in the 80s, as did Pepsi, and many were starring black people front and centre of their campaigns. Not every ad or anything HAS to tick diversity boxes. Look at how "bad" things are today - where everything gets micro analysed for racism, bias and hate and tell me it's better now
This song was especially written as a jingle for the commercial, so to say this "ruined" an epic song is not correct. A whole version of the song came AFTER the commercial.
Just like "I'd like to buy the world a coke" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1VM2eLhvsSM.html many years before, though that commercial was on film and so looks cleaner than this VHS edit...
Do you think that not fully realizing you were 20 yo until decades later, happens only in that case? Or can happen also e.g. being 40 yo, but realizing it full at 70, and a 60 yo, realizing it at 80 and so on? BTW im 35 yo, yes! I remember the ad, now i found it but didnt know it was from 1988, oh too special. BTW yeah wanna be young again imma😢 BTW the ad and the song is beautiful❤, heading now to its full original song/video❤. Love to all of you❤
@@michaelohrling3794 yep - I was one of the kids kicking up their legs behind the couple walking along bondi beach esplanade. Opening shot was from night shoot at Nielsen Park, Vaucluse.
The 80s looks so white! Well for me here in South Africa at the height of apartheid, everything on TV was white. Still remember this advertisment though.
