Yuki started grooming himself when you started talking about the dust... i think he knew and wanted to demonstrate it so people could get a better picture! Aww man, he was fluffy and cute, what a clever boy!
My grandparents had a cockatiel at their pet shop they owned. His name was Babe and he was adorable. I'm not sure what happened to him but I had some good memories with him.
With my cockatiel (named Starly), legit he picks up the most random words cause for example, once I was watching the show Codename Kids Next Door (which is a Cartoon Network show and totally recommend watching it if no one has seen it yet!) and in the show Numbuh 1’s catchphrase (or at least the phrase he says a lot) is “Kids Next Door BATTLE STATIONS” and Starly picked up “battle stations” so everytime I walk into my room he would say battle stations which is hilarious
I just wanted to say that I love your videos. I have a cockatiel named Emerald, who looks a little like Tofu (The dark grey one) and is pretty shy around everyone but me. I have had her for 3 years. She loves watching your videos with me and likes to "sing" to Yuki! I bought Emmie from a pet store for my birthday and it was sort of rescue because she has a deformed foot. She still is as active and loveable as any other bird and, sadly, no one would want her because of her foot. I love her so much and we have a really tight bond. (I accidentally taught her to say "what?" because I say it so much lol) Thank you for making these videos!
This video is not only a godsend, but also really well timed!!! I'm currently waiting for my cockatiel to finish weaning before they come home! I watched your original one, excited you've done an update.
I’m getting a Cinnamon pearl whiteface cockatiel in 6 weeks from someone who will hand raise them, they are still a small hatchling and their very adorable 🥰 planning on naming it Cheese lol
Had two cockatiels growing up Ziggy stardust and Jean Genie, yes big David Bowie fan, Ziggy was totally my bird mind, Genie hated every one, even poor Ziggy
female cockatiel are also really cuddly, I have a rescue who was in a pretty bad situation. she is now super calm and may be free flight trained in a couple of months. Also my female does not whistle but she does start to scream to wake me up for scratches :) rescue birds can be harder for first time owners but there are rescue birds who are complexly tame and had awesome owners but are in a rescue because their owners passed away so I definitely recommend visiting a bird shelter and seeing what birds are in.
i dont want a pet bird, i love my home being quiet (i own rabbits and a little snake) but i love watching videos of people being passionate about animal care, this is a really great channel for that :)
Hey Soda, you mentioned a wile ago in a different video, that you were in NZ, same here! I love your videos, and I also adore animals and care for them a lot. Sending love to you, and you're cockatiels (love them) 💜
Thank you so much! I started watching you and Elle and the birds and learned the stuff that are and and good for my birds,my bird has a all cage and now we are getting one like the one you recommended in the screen! And I have seeds:( so I’m already starting to save up to buy some and I already have enough! Thank you! I wish the best for you and your bird!
You are definitely right about the seeds vs pellets in bird groups, i commented on a post since this persons bird wasn't eating so i told them to try and put spray millet in their hand since often birds will always eat spray millet and they immediately responded and reported me and i got banned from commenting for like 6 months or so
i have a young cat (2 yrs) rn and that means i probably wont be able to get a bird until im 30, but i adore birds so i might as well start preparing now. im gonna be so knowledgeable when i am 30 and can get a bird
I am 2 years late to commenting but Tysm for the care guide I want to get one and I am doing lots of research right now I probably won’t get one because I don’t have time for them but I still think they are very cool and I want to learn more about them because they are so cool ❤
I had a cockatiel for 12 years and for five of the years, they lived in a small cage. It was hard to get my parents the cockatiel and now I had to get a bigger cage. Since I had anxiety, I had panic attack around every week because of the situation.
(I'm not sure if any of this is proven or not, but if it isn't please correct me.) I'm getting my first cockatiel from a lovely family-run store soon. The workers there have likely been handling birds their whole lives. They told me quite a few things- with reasons as well. Here's a few things they taught me. 1. Certain cages have narrow spacing where a cockatiel's foot could get stuck. (TW for gore??) When the bird's foot gets stuck and they cannot get it out, the bird will chew off its foot. 2. Zinc is deadly to birds and should not be used at all. The same goes for lysol, self-cleaning oven fumes, and other things (which I decided not to mention because it's currently six in the morning and I'd have to go to my fridge to get the list they gave me). They also said no toys from China, as the regulations for bird toys there are different from the toys here in America (where I live). 3. A harness is not reccomended for long-term use as it can damage the feathers and how they grow. For long car rides, a travel cage is the best. These are just a few of the things they said. There are also some obvious ones like changing food and water at least once a day and not having any candles around the birds. Once again, these are NOT my ideas! This is simply what the workers at the store told me! The workers are elderly ladies who have likely had the business for years. If any of this is wrong, please correct it so I can be 100% sure that my cockatiel will live a good life. Also, before you correct something, please make sure you know what you're talking about! Thank you!
I got a cockatiel at a store but I don't have it yet because it is too young but they let me come In to hand feed it and bond with it so it trust me when it comes home.
I would probably have to get a cockatiel as a baby or a "new" cockatiel. I am super paranoid of birds picking up s*xual sounds and words due to ptsd. I've heard of it happening and that freaks me out. Once I get our house to myself, one day I might get a cockatiel. I'd love for them to learn songs and speak.
hey soda pets im a aviary vet and im just seeing your video now but everything you say is right but i have one thing its a common isue that cockatiels get their beaks stuck in bells so i would say please take the bells off your cockatiels toys keep up the good work
My aunt raised her cockatiel by feeding it vegetables and some cooked sweet potatoes and she said that's the most healthiest diet for them, so to me I'd rather feed my bird vegetables and some potatoes every now and then.
Just a tip. Those tiny silver bells are not good for your bird because they can accidentally swallow tiny pieces aswell as the “metal” can chip off and your bird can swallow it. So that’s just something you want to watch very good if you are going to let your bird play with it.
I'm getting a cockatiel soon! I'm so excited I'm so close to having enough money for one. Also I'm homeschooled so I'll definitely be able to bond with my cockatiel every day🤩😁
No, my drawing tablet has been broken for a few months which is why I haven't made any new animations 😔 but even then, I don't really have time for animations anymore.
Thank you! That was more than helpful! :D You answered about every question that every Cockatiel havers would probably ask about, very clear and interesting way of how you said everything:)
My budgie passed away a few months ago, I got it from a 4 year old (one of my nephews) it was named bird bird, very sassy, but he wouldn’t eat anything but seed. I tried to give him a decent life after that but he did end up passing away. Since I got him I said one day I’ll have a cockatiel, my brother in law has a chicken pen which I thought would be perfect for a cockatiel, though I’m not expecting on getting one right away I wanna do more research and make sure I have all the correct thing, soda you’ve been a great source, thanks!
My cockatiel's nails are getting a bit long and we're all scared to cut them cause we don't wanna accidentally make her bleed D: we bought a perch that's supposed to trim her nails down but it doesn't seem to be working, so I was wondering if you had any tips on cutting your cockatiels nails?
So my parents got me cockatiels on my birthday but unfortunately they both died from salmonella. Then I found out that the pet shop my parents got the cockatiels from was a very bad shop.
I notice you have a lot of figures in your room. I have similar things collectibles and such. I'd like to know how you keep after them with the poop. You should do a video showing us around and how much they poop or just in general poops a big issue with me. I'd like to let them out of the cage.. I just got them so they're not used to me at all
what about cleaning the cockatiels? ive seen some people rinsing them with water or spraying them and some even putting them under the water tap directly which im pretty sure isnt that healthy for the cockatiel
You should give them "baths" most cockatiels enjoy it and its good for them! You shouldn't force it or fully submerge them or put them directly under pressured water though, I use a spray bottle for mine and they'll fluff up their feathers and spread their wings when theyre enjoying it, or you can leave a tap running gently and let them bath themselves under it
Oh god I still own my cockatiel that I had since I was younger and I feel so bad for him cuz now my parents just ignore him and my other family members I feed him every day he runs out of food and try to hang out with him but everytime i try he just ends up biting my finger and I feel soo bad I feel like such a bad bird owner I've been trying to socialize him again but it's soo difficult he just doesn't want to and I feel soo bad :( update I'm planning on taking him to get his wings cut and nails and maybe they can file his beak a bit I just want him to be a happy little guy again to like live the fullest
Love your birds they are lovely I would love to get a bird but we go away to much can u show us your axolotl I have one and I would love to see yours xx
I've got 4 cockatiels. 1 boy 2 confirmed girls, and another that I'm unsure of. I call him a he anyways because he's super clingy with people. He's Not that vocal, But he does make his own tunes. But...So does his sister, he loves head scratches, kisses, and generally just being on you. I've noticed females can screech just as loud as males. Though people do say that females Don't sing... The daughter, and her sibling Both make tunes. Something they've made up though. But I've got to agree with a lot of points you brought up. I've got a small room too, Saving up for a bigger place, But for the time being it has to do. I had to buy an air purifier, and it's on Most of the time. Their dust is insane. I've got to clean my room Daily to keep on top of it. Hovering and dusting with a wet wipe so that no chemicals are in the air that are harmful to them. It get's everywhere. Including Inside my computer. Which needs regular cleaning out. Their small feathers also get everywhere. I've had feathers in my hair and nose. And when they go through a molt it get's Worse. You'll find feathers, at the bottom of the cage, You'll see them Pop out mid flight. And when they shake, there's just a massive explosion of Dust and feathers. If they're close to your face when they do this, Expect to be sneezing, and blowing feathers out the way. They've got a large cage. I've given them tons of different types of perches. Including flat ones to keep their feet in top condition. I don't use Rope toys anymore, because I heard they digest the fabrics and they can't Pass them, Leading to a blockage. The toys they get are all ones that they can shred and destroy, Including a soft wood type. I even had to buy a Childs Nightlight, Because they were constantly having night frights. Since I've put a nightlight in, they've had about 2 Minor Night frights in a span of about 7 months. Where as before it was every other week, and they were Bad. Enough so that 1 bird often got a cut on their wing. I even bought flexible Plastic mat. Cut to size around places where my birds sit when outside their cage. So that they can poop all they want with out my carpet getting ruined. So when it's time to put them away for bed. You can just pick up the mats, and wash them down. Though even though they are ALOT of work at times. And are messy, For me, it's worth it.
You don't. Even if you didn't have any opposite gender in the same room or at all. A female or male will still get frisky. And if they don't have a partner to mate with, they'll rub themselves on objects or your hand, Or anything they can to satisfy themselves. Only the mum has ever rubbed herself up against the cage bars. It was for a week straight. 4 to 5 times a day. It annoyed me in the end, so every time she did it, I slightly nudged her a way from her spot. Eventually, she decided to mate with her mate. And she hasn't done it since. I've heard less light, more darkness makes them think winter is approaching. So they don't breed... But that doesn't work for mine. My mated in December 2 years ago, and had eggs in jan. And in the UK it's freezing out.
Birb people I request your help. I got a 2 month old tiel who still makes the hand feeding baby noise. He has a flight cage and toys and is weaned onto seeds, I’m going to convert him to chop and pellets once he is ready.
I want one but because my parents ate divorced I keep needing to move houses every Wednesday so sadly I won't get one in the few years but when I live alone in my own house I'll sure be owning one
I'm planning on getting a bird next year when I move, and I decided I'll be a cockatiel. I'm doing a lot of research and got a good grasp on how to take care of them. But i got a cat with a strong killer instinct for a indoor cat. I already know that I'm never letting her in the room if the bird is out but.. sense she's a indoor cat we spend a lot of time together so I'm a little concerned on how she'll react when I'm not spending as much time with her as I used to... and when she's not allowed to be in my room as much anymore...
I started watching this channel before I got a cockatiel and after. I had him/her for a month but he flew down in his/her cage and broke his neck and sadly passed away and it was hard because I planned my future with him/her and he was only 4 months old.
