When people asked me what to wear to my wedding I replied "whatever you feel comfortable or most beautiful in". I can not imagine caring so much about other peoples outfits. Like be for real 😂 also this implies that people need to go out and find different dresses for every kind of wedding they get invited too. My goal was for people to not have to spend money to come to my wedding, with the exception of out of town guests getting a hotel. We are not royalty, why do we expect so much from our loved ones??

From the pattern I can sort of pick up on its anything mini or midi length with brights colour and an interesting neckline. Like if you’d wear it to a formal beach party (idk) but google says “Cocktail attire is that sweet spot between your most glamorous gown and your favorite business casual wear. Where I’m from you just wear a dress it doesn’t really matter what, obvs bridesmaids have special dresses picked out for them but everyone else just wears what they want that’s dressed up. Idk I always find it funny how hard Americans go with their weddings, like we just go to church then go get very drunk back at grans house with the extended family. It’s all about just celebrating with the people you love, my mum has made so many wedding dresses by hand for free, there’s just no need to throw a bunch of money at it so you can show off on instagram, just chill and be with the folks you love

You say neckline hemline implying cocktail should show less skin but then say the strapless brown and pink dresses are cocktail? So what you can have long sleeves short hem or no sleeves long hem but not both? I almost suspect these are so vague so you can drum up engagement through confused comments

Her definition of cocktail seems to be: no wide and/or deep neck lines, no large embellishments, longer hemlines are best but if going short make sure no cleavage is showing, no bright floral patterns The general rule for weddings is DO NOT outshine the bride, Hence it is best to always opt for more modest clothes that don’t reveal to much nor are to flashy. Black tie, cocktail, tea, and casual mostly just refer to dress length Black tie - flour length Cocktail - ankle, some asymmetrical hems are ok Tea - midi, asymmetrical hems are ok Casual - midi, short dresses, and asymmetrical are all fair game These are my opinions but if you follow these rule odds are you won’t piss off any brides P.S. high slits are not a good idea for any wedding

So my guess for what is considered coctail after watching this vid: 1. If the dress is short the neckline should not be low. 2. If the dress is long you can have a lower neckline (v) but still not to low. (Still must be tasteful). 3. If the dress is long it should not cover your shoes (but can go to ankle lenght). 4. The dress should have structure, be more formfitting /simple in design. 5. The dress should not have a lot of pattern and colours all in one dress.

Cocktail definitionally refers to a below-the-knee above the ankle dresses for women. There is no such thing as a “short” cocktail dress. Then it is a party dress, semi-formal dress, day dress, sundress, etc.

I dont understand wedding dress codes. Why would anyone care what other people wear? Like I guess I underatand the "dont wear white" rule, but other than that why cant we just let people wear what they feel comfortable in? this is a really weird definition of what is acceptable for “cocktail” attire like idk i think the specific venue and theme really matter but also! that second dress was just ugly that’s not cocktail attire that should be burned . real advice: literally just ask them what kind of color story they’re doing and if they’re not specific just wear whatever looks and feels best on you! if whoever invited you is a normal sane person your presence is more important than the theoretical definition of cocktail attire
