I was in school between 1966-1978. I was taught about the reality of all aspects of slavery and I couldn't tell you when they quit teaching the truth.

I did read a book called 1984, and it's supposed to be fiction, not a field manual.

Since it took 2 years to pass the Emancipation Proclamation, the way I see it is the Union were getting their asses handed to them and realized they needed more numbers and fresh meat to turn the tables.... How do you get more numbers and fresh meat? You tell an entire demographic you'll grant them freedom IF they join you in the fight and willing to sacrifice your life for theirs!..... Put it this way.... If the Union soldiers were truly only fighting to free the them and the battles were going to plan, then why were all of them forced to fight?..... The problem everyone has in 2024 is that history has been rewritten so many times by now (to create this political narrative and keep racism alive, etc.) and nobody alive today was alive 160 years ago so nobody has enough conclusive evidence about much of anything anymore..... All we can do in 2024 is apply common sense to the few parts that we believe have not been modified..... Since it has been generationally documented that the EP was not even written before the Civil War began and not passed until 2 years later, it is safe for me to conclude the Union had zero interest in freeing the slaves until they realized they had no other choice..... Regardless, people in 2024 have no concept of what real racism actually is anymore because the word has been redefined.... If this kid can call Charlie Kirk or Donald Trump a racist, then what would he call a KKK member in 1930, who's laughing his ass off while lynching a black man for no reason other than the color of his skin?

I went to college for 3 semesters back in 2010 and good thing i dropped out. The professors were weird and didn't care about teaching instead we were taught to accept things and not bully people that are different. In high school history was mostly about current events and bringing in articles at least in college i loved history because we were taught everything.

Wow!! Sorry but maybe this will help: I am 56 years old and when I went to school in Austria we were tought to feel guilty about what happened in the 2 WW. We HAD to drive with the school to Mauthausen at a very young age, I think wer were 9 or 10 years. We all cried and of course were shocked. BUT I WAS NOT EVEN ALIVE WHEN THIS ALL HAPPEND. I REFUSE TO FEEL GUILTY FOR THINGS THAT HAPPENED BEFORE I WAS BORN!!! But it took 20 year's to shake this brainwashing off.
