🟥 DISCLAIMER: I make these videos to share my own personal methods and techniques for how I make cold process soap. These videos are not intended as tutorials for beginners. The content I create is intended for those who already have an understanding of cold process soap making. Cold process soapmaking involves working with sodium hydroxide (NaOH, also referred to as lye). Lye and raw soap can permanently damage your eyes and burn your skin. When making soap, you should already know and practice lye safe handling procedures and always wear safety gear during the entire soapmaking process, even while cleaning up. I hope you find watching my videos helpful or entertaining. However, due to the many variables that can affect a particular batch of soap, if you do try any of my methods or techniques that I use in my videos, I cannot be held liable or responsible for your results.

This soap was really hard the next day. I kind of expected that, but I’m glad I didn’t wait to cut the soap. I had my wire cutter really tight and you can see in the video how much it bends. I’ve been using this soap and really like it, but, as I said in the video, the 60% shea butter is still my favorite. ☺ Thanks so much for watching! -Holly :)

This was my first soap, after watching several safety videos prior & much reading up. I made it in the evening when my kids went to bed and cut it in the late morning after rush. It hardened very fast. Mine traced much faster than yours seemed to. Cutting was a little harder than I anticipated, so I see why people don’t use regular knives! I had some breakage and cracking along the edges, during cutting. Good amount of lather & suds. Feel clean after using. Would prefer it to be more moisturizing, which is what I’m really looking for in a soap. It’s not as moisturizing as I thought so much cocoa butter would be. This has me thinking 60 shea next.

I apologize if you've already answered my question. I see that you use varies temperature for you oils & lye in soaping. Should your oil temperature be at 85F and lye water at 93? I don't think so, the coconut oil is the one that dries (a lot) the skin. It is not moisturizing or emollient at all, so you have to use no more than15% of coconut oil in a recipe. On the other side, cocoa butter has no cleansing properties and its creamy, conditioning and gives long life shelf to the soap.

I’m probably stating the obvious, but I just wanted to check. Is the reason for adding the lye to the water instead of the other way round, to avoid possible movement or splashing of the lye? I’ve heard to add the lye to the water so many times, but I have never heard why we do this. I’ve always just assumed the reason why. ❤ Love this soap, just beautiful thank you for sharing your process. 🙂🐿❤️🌈

Sometimes people give these types of guidelines but it’s always good to test for yourself. I’ve seen recipes with more than 20% up to 30%. You also have to consider the other oils that add to the recipe and would combat this, balancing things out.

@@shoresoffreedom I have made a five butter soap which constitutes of 80% butter. It was very hard to cut the next day but it was not brittle. It does not dissolve fast in the shower and I did not experience any sliminess. Well, in soaping there is nothing called as "no more than XYZ%". I oven processed my last soap (1st time I've done that). It was in the oven for nearly 72hrs (light off) because it was still warm to the touch. Is it normal for CP soap to do that? It's only been sliced for a couple of days, so I've not used it yet, and as it was 100% olive oil (my 1st attempt at Castile) I'm a little concerned that I may have over processed it, and damaged it in some way. And, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, I've learned so much from your videos, x
